Calc blindly sorts the entire column. In one organization (NECTEC in Thailand), the helpdesk reported this as a frequent complaint from users migrating from Excel to Calc. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. That's it. - The problem is that each installation CD that you issue has to have a little piece of paper (people in third world country do not read readme notices inside the CD) that says what you have to do. Copying disks require copying papers.. which does not happen. You end up with hundreds of people either saying that OpenOffice does not work or calling for assistance. What we need is a full-proof system that is 100% in your own locale. This is what you usually have when Windows is in your own language (i.e. Spanish installation on a Spanish Locale Windows yields Spanish locale OpenOffice). Our case is one in which the usual rules for desired locale do not apply, so we would like to have one more rule added, that makes installations for those countries (who need simple installations most) just as simple: force locale settings to be the same as user interface locale. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The behaviour can best be described as if the context menu gets mapped below the main window, instead of on top if it. This behaviour happens on GNU/Linux (Fedora Core 2) with CTWM version 3.7 but it has been confirmed with other systems as well. As far as I can detect build 1.9.82 was okay, while builds 1.9.122 and later are affected. Although it is tempting to conclude that it is a window manager problem, it must be emphasized that OOo2 is the only application known to show this behaviour. For the sake of completeness, this problem makes OOo2 totally unusable on the affected platforms. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. My observation is slightly different (this is using CTWM 3.5): when you press the right button (context menu) in OpenOffice, the menu is very briefly (sometimes too briefly to see) shown and then disappeared. I found it is unmapped and destroyed (not mapped below the main window). Also, while it might sound logical that this bug depends on CTWM's Auto Raise feature to be turned on, it is in fact NOT the case, and rather, this bug depends on CTWM's focus follows pointer mode (the native X-Windows mode). In fact, when the OpenOffice Window explicitly is given focus, the context menu is shown correctly. I believe that OpenOffice will misbehave, like it does with ctwm, with any window manager which uses X's focus follows pointer. In http://tigerdyr.wheel.dk/ctwm-archive/1597.html I showed some of the X events that occur when the focus follows the pointer, and my guess is that something in OpenOffice or Gtk started handling one of these events incorrectly. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I agree this desired default. A lot of Japanese word-processor has the same default with the requested one. * Microsoft Word2003 - Allow hanging punctuation is OFF - Alignment - Options is Justified * Microsoft Word2000 - Allow hanging punctuation is OFF - Alignment - Options is Justified * Microsoft Word97 - Allow hanging punctuation is OFF - Alignment - Options is Left/Top * Justsystem Ichitaro 2005 - Allow hanging punctuation is OFF - Alignment - Options is Justified OOo doesn't have the above settings. When OOo opens word-doc file, OOo applies its own settings. For example, Word-doc file:Allow hanging punctuation is OFF -- OOo:Allow hanging punctuation is ON. This causes the different display with Word in many cases. OOo can not open Ichitaro files. But StarSuite/StarOffice can open Ichitaro file. I think we will have the same problem when we open Ichitaro file by SS/SO. Just-systems Inc(Ichitaro developer) has announced that they will distribute OASIS OpenDocument Import/export plug-in for Ichitaro. I think we will have the same problem more often. Meanwhile, there will be another problem when we change the default. There will be possibility that the display will be different when OOo files made by the old version are opened. For example, Old OOo file:Allow hanging punctuation is ON -- New OOo:Allow hanging punctuation is OFF. I still can not find the way to solve this problem regarding compatibility of OOo. But I agree with the change of the default.Because if we change the default promptly, we can lessen the compatibility problem. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [installation-issues] [Issue 42998] Mac OS X installer build of core application
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=42998 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Sep 18 12:43:30 -0700 2005 --- Hi Eric, nice to hear that our contributions are appreciated :) Regarding the icons: besides the application icon we need of course document icons that will be used in the finder to identify our documents. The connection between document types and icons is done in the Info.plist file inside of the launcher. So in fact the launcher will be registered as an Editor for all document types supported by OOo. Now we need two icon sets, one for the old file formats that were supported in OOo1.x and another set for the new Oasis file format of OOo2.0. Actually, the icons were already included in the sysui project, so all I had to do was creating .icns files from the existing PNGs and creating an Info.plist that puts everything together. I also added all other supported file types like doc, xls, ppt, etc. so those files can directly be opened with OOo from the finder via Open With. To see the icons in action, save some files in different formats and of different types. If the icons don't show up you probably have another default application registered to handle this file type. This can be changed in the 'Get Info' page or by removing the old handlers. Sometimes it can be required to restart the finder because old icons seem to be cached. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I can talk to the lead of the installation project if there is an easy way to get those variables from the openoffice.lst file in instsetoo_native, so only one file has to be changed in future versions. Could someone verify that the packaging problems under 10.3 are gone when switching to tar instead of pkg, as maho suggested ? On 10.4 both methods work fine, but I think on 10.3 there were lots of processes started while packing, right ? Additionally, the whole method breaks the possibility of installing language packs, because the installation paths cannot be found anymore after moving files around in the OpenOffice.dmg. One last thing: shouldn't we try to include fondu in the launcher ? The missing fonts are big acceptance problem I guess. The only concern I have with an automatic conversion is the additional space we will silently occupy with converted font files. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It should work in a way that everytime you apply an auto filter, the new number of selected rows should be indicated on the status bar in a format like this: 29 of 2300 cases/rows. [installation-issues] [Issue 42998] Mac OS X installer build of core application
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=42998 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Sep 18 14:58:05 -0700 2005 --- ericb-ssa Maho's solution for the packaging looks very simple and interesting : tar is universal, and works always fine. I vote for tar format and I propose to start an m130+macosx11 build for just one locale (to save time). But, because I'm prudent, and waiting to see it works, (changes can be made very quickly), I have commited Florian's create_OSX_dmg : at least a working solution is in place. The fact is we have not too much time to decide... Remember : the deadline to make macosx11 ready for QA is around tuesday. After, no RC for us. For language packs, you're right, they are actually problematic, not only for Mac OS X port. I'd suggest we open an issue targeted for 2.0.1 to solve this. Last, have fondu inside, is IMHO, a very good idea (Just don't forget to use Estsushi Kato patch for complex font) : since ages, Mac Users ask for the use of native fonts. With this, we're on the right way. One more time, have we still the time for 2.0 ? IMHO : 2.0.1 for fondu inclusion too. What I propose : - create_OSX_dmg is here by default, until we verify Maho's proposition using .tar is better. We just have time until tuesday. No problem for me to reverse the commits. - 2.0.1 time to find/think to a solution for language packs - 2.0.1 for fondu use implementation - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [l10n-issues] [Issue 54774] New - Bad user experience when entering dates in Thai locale
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=54774 Issue #:|54774 Summary:|Bad user experience when entering dates in Thai |locale Component:|l10n Version:|680m130 Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|All Status:|NEW Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|ENHANCEMENT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|code Assigned to:|er Reported by:|james_clark --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Sep 18 17:16:56 -0700 2005 --- In Thailand, the Buddhist calendar is more commonly used than the Gregorian calendar. Year 2005 in the Gregorian calendar is year 2548 in the Buddhist calendar. The Thai locale uses [~buddhist]D/M/YY as the default short date format (formatindex=18). In Calc, if the user enters a date as 19/10/2005, it will by default be displayed as 19/10/48. So far so good. However, if the user now enters a date as 19/10/2548, it will be treated as the year 19/10/2548 in the Gregorian calendar, which is 19/10/3091 in the Buddhist era, and thus be displayed as 19/10/91. The overall result is that by default a Thai user is required all the time to mentally translate between dates in the Buddhist calendar and dates in the Gregorian calendar. Obviously this is not good. The Thai version of Excel has the same problem if a cell uses a Buddhist calendar date format. However, the problem is less serious because by default Excel uses a Gregorian calendar date format, and so the problem will only arise if the user manually chooses a Buddhist calendar date format. There would seem to be two possible approaches: - don't use a Buddhist calendar date format as the default in Calc; however, simply changing the Thai locale data would be problematic because using the Buddhist calendar date format as the default is the right thing to do in other parts of OOo - introduce some intelligence about the calendar with respect to which years are interpreted, rather than always treating dates as being in the Gregorian calendar; this would be analagous to the current intelligence about how two digit date years are entered; for example, interpret dates between 30 and 75 as being between 2530 and 2575 in the Buddhist calendar - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Unfortunately, the above-mentioned software are not open source, nor they have linux versions; therefore the task is a little bit more complicated than building the plug-in. I realize the difficulty/impracticality to incorporate any reference management software/utility to the Open Office suite. However, any reference management utility embedded in Writer that is shorter than one with internet database (such as PubMed, Genome, etc.) search tools would not attract scientific community to the Open Office suite. I would personally rather use Crossover Office instead, to produce scientific papers. Thanks, hakova - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
