1. display the drawing toolbar (to see what's going on)
2. insert a new slide
3. make sure that the drawing toolbar is selecting the select mode (the cursor
icon)
4. click title portion of the slide
5. observe that the drawing toolbar now selects the text mode (the T icon)
6. type in something, say abc
7. click outside the slide.

The drawing toolbar automatically comes back to the select mode, as expected.
If I clicked something, like a picture, (instead of clicking outside the slide),
then I'd have selected it. So far so good.

8. click the title portion of the slide
9. hit ctrl+ENTER to move to the body part of the slide
10. now click outside the slide again.

Now the drawing tool doesn't go back to the select mode. Instead, it's still
in the text box mode, and therefore it tries to create a new textbox to the
clicked location.

When you are writing multiple pages of slides just by using keyboard, the only
time you'd use mouse is to select an object on a slide. This problem prevents me
from selecting an object efficiently; instead I have to manually choose the
select mode first, which is annoying.

This seems like an usability problem. Microsoft PowerPoint doesn't have this
problem.

This is a spin off to issue 56082, I create a new issue, as there might be to
much discussion in the old one.

Try to install the nl_med dictionary using DicOOo (this is listed as dutch
(medical) ). The dowlnoad is fine, it would be activated in dictionary.lst, but
it would not be unzipped.
More worse - no dictionaries would be unzipped, when downloaded together with
nl_med.

From the user's side, all seemed to run run well, as NL is marked as
Spellchecking available in the Language Settings, but spellchecking would not
work.

If user unzips the file manually, all works well.

laurent:
could you have a look, what happens here and correct DicOOo or forward the
problem to the dictionaries maintainer.

I checked with 2.0 German version WIN XP: [680m3(Build8968)] and can confirm
unexpected behaviour.

Steps to reproduce with Address table:
1. open text document with mail merge fields
2. F4
3. select your Database - Address table
4. Right mouseclick on Address table
5. select in context Menu: Edit Database File
6. In Database Window: Unter Tables select and open address Table
   with doubleclick
7. Mark first row by clicking row header
8. Mark Range by shift+Mouseclick on another row header
9. Menu: Edit - copy
10. open new CALC spreadsheet document
11. Paste
expected: complete area should be pasted
actual: only 1 cell will be pasted
With WINDOWS you can use program clipbrd.exe to check clipboard content,
You will see that not the complete rnage of Database table will be copied to
clipboard (pls. see attached screenshot)

issue 56909 (set janpieter to cc).

osconvert:
I think, your issue has other reasons. Please file a new issue (Defect,
Component lingucomponent, subcomponent spellchecking, platform linux).
Unfotunately i cannot help with it, as I rarely use linux and so cannot confirm
(but there are other people around to help ;-) )

I refer to a MySQL query but i guess the problem is the same with other dbs.

If you use a condition like the following in the WHERE clause of a SQL query OOo
doesn't understand it correctly if you use the Design View
The condition is:
WHERE TO_DAYS(NOW())- TO_DAYS(movim.date) = 365

If you use the Design View OOo create a column for it where the title is
TO_DAYS(NOW())- TO_DAYS(movim.date) and the Criterion is = #30/12/1900#

If you start creating the query in Design View it looks like initially you can
do a regular query, but after saving the query and the document after you try to
edit the query again you find it has been modified as above by the OOo SQL
preprocessor

An SQL query with this condition is correctly handled only if run in Direct
mode

Sometimes, a user prefers to use the
web layout to edit documents like
Word documents even if this file is
not a web page. (Maybe the screen is
more fully used.)

I suggest that OOo should show a
document in web layout if a user
edited this document in this
view previously. Then, the user
does not need to switch to web
layout manually every time the
document is opened.

New basic scripts do not replace old scripts resulting in input/output errors.
I had OOo2RC1 when I experienced this problem when opening or saving
spreadsheets or opening the macro editor. I got a lot of error messages
relating to 1.1.4/ 1.1.5 Basic scripts. I eventually overcame the problem using
Tools /Macros /Organize Macros /OpenOffice.org Basic Macros /Organizer
/Libraries /Location: OpenOffice.org Macros Dialogs to delete the old scripts.
I found at the same time that the new scripts were not entered in the Organizer
so I had to append them manually. Judging by postings on the Users and Discuss
mailing lists, a lot of others have experienced the same problem.

Hello, pplwong,

I would say that even in
OOo 2.0 (the final version),
this issue happens occasionally.

If I click PDF export again,
it works! Sometimes, I get the
proper PDF files right away
just by pressing the same
button once only.

Hello,

Running Windows XPsp2, Word 2003 and Openoffice 2.0 final release.

I have a simple document created in Word 2003 which renders and prints
correctly. However, using Openoffice to open the same document (Microsoft
Word2003 Native .DOC) additional spurious characters are inserted at the end
of each word which in turn gets printed.

The document itself isn't particularly special. It was a template for a
wedding table name, therefore dimensions are smaller than A4, no special
formatting etc.

I would like to attach the document for your viewing (its small 50kb)

Hi,
My task is to instruct Bernahd on the Art project management but we are still
stuck at trying to establish a tunnel to the OOo site.

In order to eliminate any possibility that it is the connection's fault, we
tested connecting from another computer/connection from where I usually
establish the tunnel using my keys.

When using Bernhard's keys on the same computer/connection, we get two
situations:
1. If the public key is present in the same folder with the private one, the
website asks for [EMAIL PROTECTED] password.

2. If we remove the public key from the .ssh folder we are first asked for
passphrase for the id_dsa key and after we enter it we are asked for
[EMAIL PROTECTED]'s password, no matter what we do.

Bernhard is able to reproduce this from his connection and OS too like it
happens from mine.

Support, can you please investigate further ? We are in great need to access the
Art project and update the pages.

Thanks in advance,
Cristian Driga

Hi, I have added, in Windows Explorer, the show (mostrar in spanish)
characteristic in Archive types (Tipos de Archivo in spanish) with command
...simpress -show %1 identical to show for odt documents.
The result is that the document is oppened but don't show in presentation mode
(F5).

I think that the correct is import and show the document if I use the -show
argument. Or include other argument to do it.

Better if force the -show argument when I double-click in pps type file in the
Windows Explorer.

I don´t know if is defect or enhancement.

I believed that same behaviour is if I open pps file in Linux.

Thanks you.

For imperial measurement users, fractions beyond the first level fractions (1/2,
1/4, 3/4) are rounded. While the rounding is small it produces two main
irritations for me
1. it reduces the accuracy of positioning items on a page (in my case
photographs from post-production issued in inch measurements)
2 it over-simplifies (potential errors) our inventory in Calc and Base involving
equipment in the workshop that are in imperial measure such as screw-threads,
bolts and nuts etc.
While we work around this at present, it nontheless makes me ask why it has to
be.

They are UNC paths, the others we do not use. The differences to issue 53184
are:
- the OOo files can not be loaded from OOo using File/Open
- copied to the local drive, the same file evering is working fine
- the problem ist depended on the WinOS XP-works ME does not work (98, 2000
etc. not tested)
- the issue 53184 does not mention the OS at all?

Not a duplicate of 53184.
Works correctly with UNC path and mapped drives (Xp SP2, OOo SR3)
Unclear description of the pb : when you try to access a file from the file
forms ( open a file, save a file, import a file) you cannot navigate in
your local network. (You can navigate from the listbox only in the machine
specified in the UNC path. (local or network) unless you manually modify the UNC
path of the machine.
Ex : you have 3 machines in your local network : M1, M2 and your own machine M0.
you open file \\M1\C\file.odt (by entering its UNC path or by opening it from
explorer)
1-You try to insert file \\M2\D\img1.gif
2-You have no way navigating to this file thru the file listbox unless you map
the drive. You have to manually enter the UNC path. (Navigation stops at \\M1\)
3-You want to save your file as C:\My documents\newfile.odt, you have to click
on the home directory icon to be able to navigate in your local machine M0.

1. Create a new database.
2. Create a Table using the wizard: add a primary key with auto-increment.
3. Add data.

The auto-generated value of the primary key field for the first record is zero.

Not a bug in itself, but setting the default first entry to 1 would enhance
compatibility. MySQL starts from 1, for instance.

An option to specify a start value would do as well.

Table definition by DDL:

Actually I tried both StarOffice 8 (Linux) OOo V2.0 ...

Trying to write fixed-point values (e.g. 49,00 [German/European repr.]) to the
DB from SO8/OOo2.0 results in errors.

The resulting message is:
ERROR: column preis has type numeric but expression has type character varying

This happens with OOo2.0 and PostgreSQL8 on Windows (check on a notebook
installation) as well als SO8 OOo2.0 against a PostgreSQL-DBMS on
Linux-HA-Cluster.

- It works, if the column 'preis' is defined as a floating-point value (REAL,
  DOUBLE).

- It works with fixed-point data definition ( NUMERIC(5,2), MONEY, ... ) on an
ODBC connection - in which case the SERIAL groks ...

Ideas welcome ...

I'm very glad to tell you, that since I finally upgraded from RC1 to the final
version 2.0, the issue does NOT exist any more on my two linux systems (Debian
stable and testing)!
(Spell checker now works with the adobe fonts like Helvetica or Times...)

Thanks to anyone working for the OpenOffice team, you're all doing a good job!

Sounds in the gallery cannot be played with the integrated media player under
Linux/KDE/ALSA.
The player behaves as there was no sound card at all.
There is another bug with sound not working on Linux/PPC, but I didn't find
the way to tell it was more general than PPC: it never works on Linux.

Reviewing a modified document with revision marks is not easy because the user
must open the modeless dialog box for revisions. MS Word offers a view mode
where the modifications are shown in the side of the document. This is far
more easier to read, and even to use for accepting and rejecting modifications
(in conjunction with a revision toolbar). This lacks in OO.

Moreover, the comments added in the text are only visible by double-clicking
on the small yellow box in the text. Sometimes, the document is not annotated,
but heavily commented, and showing comments in the same way as Word (still on
the side of the document) may be very convenient.

Please note that existing dialogs should remain, because they enable browsing
for a specific comment/revision: the two way of doing things are
complementary. Their UI could be better for this usage btw.

Sorry for disturbing but I have found :

The close box is not drawn (see snapshot provided) when more than one document
is open in OpenOffice so we are forced to use the Close item menu to close the
document instead of the used behaviour of the close box.

If this is normal behaviour, please change status to ENHANCEMENT REQUEST.

Kind regards

[sw-issues] [Issue 20236] Missing plan mode in Open Office writer

2005 ---
Well, as I explained my feature request while registering for OO 2.0, I
thought I was more precise this time to explain what I mean.

The navigator gives effectively a way to restructure the document, by moving
sections of the document up and down and by changing eventually the title
level (and recursively moving what is in the section/chapter). But to be as
usefull as the way Word does this, it should let the user make drags and
drops, and it should be possible to do the same thing without having to open
another window (ie: while typing the document itself).

The plan mode works as is. For instance, let's have a document with the
following structure:
Chapter1
   SectionA
 Para-a
 Para-b
   SectionB
 Para-c
Chapter2

Suppose you want to move SectionA to Chapter2. You can do that with the
navigator. But suppose it is easier to:
1. Fold the whole section (this implies a section folding functionnality, as
in several programming text editors, once again):

Chapter1
   +SectionA
   SectionB
 Para-c
Chapter2

2. Drag and drop the Section A to the Chapter2:
Chapter1
   SectionB
 Para-c
Chapter2
   +SectionA

And now, if you want to change SectionA to Chapter level, simply do the
following:
1. Place the caret just at the top of Section A:
Chapter1
   SectionB
 Para-c
Chapter2
   +|SectionA

2. Press MAJ+TAB:
Chapter1
   SectionB
 Para-c
Chapter2
+|ChapterA

And now, if you want to transform Chapter1 in section, but leave SectionB at
the level Section. Do the following:
1. Do not fold the Chapter1 (to not apply the following command to the chapter
and its sections):
|Chapter1
   SectionB
 Para-c
Chapter2
+ChapterA

2. Press TAB:
   |Section1
   SectionB
 Para-c
Chapter2
+ChapterA

3. Type a new title for the Chapter1, since the sections are out of a chapter:
Chapter1
   |Section1
   SectionB
 Para-c
Chapter2
+ChapterA

Why is this easier than using the navigator? I never used an external tool. I
kept in the editing Window, and could change my document structure just in
time, while I was editing it.

The navigator let you restructure the document once you typed it, while Word
let you type and restructure in same time, without being compelled to any
external tool.

This is a usability problem (there are several problems with modeless dialog
boxes by the way, for instance:
- find/next is easier to do with Find First command followed by F3 shortcut
(find next), as many programming text editors do, with the possibility to hide
or even close the find dialog box ;
- revision marks are easier to see, accept and refuse with a toolbar and by
showing them in a side bar, as in recent Words, rather than opening a modeless
dialog box that always hides some parts of the document ;
- same remarks for comment review ;
- and of course for text restructuration.
).

Please note that the Navigator is a great tool too, because when you have
FINISHED your document, it is coherent to have a tool to do the specific task
of reorganizing.

I just noticed, while explaining the behaviour of this editing mode, that the
chapter/section/subsection folding is a must have and is sufficient to remove
the need of the navigator in many cases. I also just noticed that the
navigator doesn't work when you change a section's level and it is auto
numbered: the numbering is wrong after. I'll fill another feature request and
a bug.

Hope I was more precise this time...

Several programmer editors can do code folding to hide some parts of the text.
It would be very interesting to have chapter folding, section folding,
paragraph folding functions, to keep the document easy to manage if it get
big.
For instance, the following document:
Chapter1
   Section1
 Para
 Para
   Section2
 Para
 Para
Chapter2
   Section1
 Para

could have chapter 1 folded as is:
+Chapter1
Chapter2
   Section1
 Para
 ...

Moreover, copying/pasting (or better, drag/drop) of Chapter1 in another
position of the document would be an good alternative to the Navigator.
Plus, having TAB/MAJ+TAB shortcuts to raise/lower the title level of a folded
chapter and its sections would be interesting.
See also issue 20236.

When I change the title level of a chapter or a section, and these are
automatically numbered, the numbering is wrong.
For instance:
1 Chapter A
   1.1 Section B
   1.2 Section C
2 Chapter D

I raise Section C to the Title1 level. I get the following numbering:
1 Chapter A
   1.1 Section B
1.2 Section C
2 Chapter D

which is wrong. Section C should be numbered 2, and Chapter D should be 3.

I had a very frustrating experiance trying to add a header to an existing
document. My following of the documentation didn't work.

The problem, I am almost embarrassed to say was that I was in Web View.

I suggest the following change to the documentation in the top section under
HEADER:

After the existing first sentence: Adds a header to the current page style. A
header is an area in the top page margin, where you can add text or graphics.

I suggest adding: The header will only show in 'Page Layout' view.
Choose View - Page Layout checkbox.

In Excel you can hide zero values with a user defined number format like
0.00;;.

Calc allows the same but needs three semicolon (0.00;;;).

For better ms-interoperability this the excel-style should be accepted as well.

Hi Louis,
I assign this to you because your name appears on cvs :)
There is a typo on the porting/mac page, the download link under 2.0rc3 is
pointing to the table containing 1.1.2 links and not to 2.0rc3 table.
Kind regards
Sophie

[sw-issues] [Issue 56195] Hidden Paragraphs Do Not Work - Only Test For Final Record On Page And Then Apply To All

Just tried it on Pavel's m136 builds and it does the same incorrect behavouir
(only the last hidden paragraph is tested, the result applied to all instances
of it).

ES: Are you still having trouble reproducing it? So far this is four different
linux machines with four differnet builds and the official release for XP that
it is reproducable on. Why don't you upload the document you created and said
it works for and we can test that.

I'm going to suggest that this is a blocker for 2.0.1 - as I've previously said
the new hide blank lines feature for labels would just create havoc if this
isn't fixed.

because proper template handling is one of the OOo-pro's compared to MSO, we
should take care about this isse.

jcvigor:

It seems you are experiencing the same bug. When you do data to text and
print just that screen it works as expected.

However if you do File Print Yes make a form letter the data goes to the
fields (as you do show hidden paragraphs and see the filled in field) but as
the print command is initiated the hidden paragraphs then mess up the page. I
take it the final line you had was not supposed to have an address on it (hence
it hid all addresses).

ayaniger - ssa:
a) What was the problem that my patch introduced, and that your patch fixed?

b) There are two other problems here, which deserve attention:
1. if the combobox is open, clicking on the arrow doesn't close it in RTL.
2. in Linux, after the combobox is closed, it often happens that the screen is
not properly refreshed, and leftovers from the combobox remain on the screen.
On Windows, this does not happen.

I am posting these problems here, since they may be closely related to this
issue. If you think that they should be filed as a seperate issue, I'll do that.

The toggle button on the style list should be switched to the other side.

That is the toggle button or strip should be on the right when the style list
is
docked on the right, and on the left when the style list is docked on the left.

The toggle is a strip when the style list is closed, so it is easy to show, but
just
a button when it is open so is harder to hide. If it could be an unmoving full
height strip it would be better.

Reason: Toggling the style list on/off will be much easier.

There are several small errors in menu handling in OO.
Many menu entries are not grayed and can be selected even if none of the
suboptions are available, or even if there are no suboption.
For instance, in Writer:
Edit|Object- Empty
Format|Anchor- all unavailable
  | flip, position, etc: all the same
Tab | Delete, Select, etc.: all unavailable.
etc.

This is annoying when the user is looking for a feature, and sees these
entries, and waste its time to check which are really available.

Moreover, under KDE/Linux, opened menu are not closed when the user click on
the window status bar. It is closed if the user clicks everywhere on the
desktop, but the desktop is rarely visible. The user must therefore either
move the mouse far away from the menu, or use Escape key. Annoying.

Please REOPEN. From the comments it doesn't look like this was actually tested,
and has been reproduced in OOo2.0.0-release.

Steps taken:
+ Logged on as Administrator
+ Installed OOo2.0.0, carefully ensuring that install for Anyone who uses this
computer (all users) was chosen.
+ Confirmed explorer shows icon for odt file and that double-clicking open the
file.
+ Logged out
+ Logged in as aLimitedUser
+ Confirmed explorer does NOT show icon for odt file and that double-clicking
file responds with Windows cannot open this file. What do you want to do? with
default selection Use (Microsoft) Web service to find the appropriate program,
which not surprisingly fails.

Also, given that double-clicking a file to open it is pretty much basic
functionality, and confuse the hell out of the mums dads your trying to win
over, perhaps it should be P2.

when one tries to download openoffice 2.0, choosing polish version from

http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.0/index.html

is WRONGLY redirected to page: www.openoffice.pl

page www.openoffice.pl has links only to ENGLISH version of openoffice 2.0
(http://ftp.tpnet.pl/vol/d9/OpenOffice/stable/)

HOW TO FIX:
link should redirect to:

http://pl.openoffice.org/product.download.html

(like in other native languages)

additionally: I am worried that PL openoffice team FAILS to recognise this as a
bug. I ve submitted the similar bug (#50001) but it was never solved :(

therefore I ask for some supervision on this links bug as it is crucial to fix
it - currently downloading polish version is counter-intuitive (i wonder how
many basic users resigned from using oo because of this..)

i sincerely hope this bug wont stand long,
devein

I have built m136, and your fix works if and only if I choose Mail.app in
Tools - Options - Internet - E-Mail. (without the path, does not work with)

Isn't it possible to modify something to enter the complete path ? Or give a
choice ?

Else, this issue is verified and we just need to add a comment in some readme
