There are Zoom-In and Zoom-Out buttons which can be placed on the toolbar, but
they do not work. Please make them work in all applications such as Writer and
provide an option to set the amount of zoom for each click on the button.

The Zoom pop-up menu is a bit of a pain since it requires two clicks to execute:
first the zoom setting then the OK button. I think the OK click is unnecessary.
Simply dismiss the menu and execute the selected zoom when entered.

I would like to see a slider like in Word that you can click/drag and select the
zoom in one operation. When you release the mouse button the selected zoom is
then set.

Reassigned to requirements.
Desired is an option which adapts all numerals in a text (not only
auto-numberings) into their format regarding the lingual context e.g. when
formatting a text from English to Arabic character format.

Does it happen on your machine when displaying or printing? Which printer do you

Changes to the HEAD revision of svx/source/form/fmvwimp.cxx made by kz on Jan
31, 2006 have fixed this issue. Open times have dropped from approx. 400secs to
approx. 8 secs and close times have also dropped to only 1 or 2 seconds. Does
this mean that OOo v2.0.2 will have these changes included?

Another noticeable improvement is the time to display the next record.

The new times are using the OOo2.0.1 release rev with only the fmvwimp.cxx
changes by kz on 31 Jan,06.

Many thanks to all.

The ScShapeObj aggregates a SvxShapeControl. In ~ScShapeObj, the SvxShapeControl
is destroyed. It is derives (via SvxShapeTextand SvxUnoTextBase from
SvxUnoTextRangeBase, which in its destructor does a "delete pEditSource". This
pEditSource is a SvxTextEditSource instance, which in its destructor locks the
SolarMutex.

So, in short, when the ScShapeObj is destroyed, and aggregates a SvxShape which
contains text, the SolarMutex is locked, anyway, and thus the finalizer thread
is blocked.

The problem is that currently, the locking is *too late*. The shape instance is
in parts, but not completely, destroyed. The patch changes this to lock the
mutex earlier, to make the whole destruction a transaction.

However, I do not know whether there are other SvxShape instance which might not
indirectly lock the SolarMutex upon destruction. In this case, the patch might
produce additional problems. Could you elaborate where you expect them, so I can
check?

However, even then I think *not* locking the mutex is a bug, since none of all
those SvxShape implementations are really threadsafe. Only some methods rely on
the SolarMutex, some don't, and none has an own thread-safe concept with own
mutexes. So, in any case, I think destroying the shapes should be transactional,
and guarded by the SolarMutex.

Side note:
A less invasive patch is to change the ScShapeObj destructor as follows:
  ScUnoGuard aGuard;
  mxShapeAgg.clear();
That is, only guard the reset of the aggregated object (and thus its
destruction, since this is the only reference) with the SolarMutex. This also
solves the problem. However, I am not sure if this is better, since it loses the
transaction characteristics of the last release ...

If you add an fontwork. And then you select it, you can find no method to modify
fontwork style on "Fontwork" toolbar. MS Office has this method.

[graphics-issues] [Issue 61877] New - Capture screen (rect angular/polygon) and save/export

  Summary:|Capture screen (rectangular/polygon) and save/export

--- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Feb 9 21:34:03 -0800
2006 ---
Summary:
Let the user capture the screen (rectangular/polygon) and save/export.

Detailed proposal:
Some modules of OOo (e.g. Writer) do not have the full set of drawing tools. For
example, Writer does not have connectors, glue points, closed polygons, etc.

As a result, sophisticated images cannot be created within those modules.

Currently, the user has to follow an elaborate process:
1. Switch to Drawing (or Impress),
2. Create the image using the tools that are unavailable in Writer
3. Save the image
4. Switch back to Writer
5. Insert the image in the Writer's file.

This roundabout method can be avoided if OOo allows the user to "draw" a
rectangle/polygon on any part of the screen and captures that part of screen.

Let the user save it as an independent image (while he carries on working with
the rest of the image).

Let him also save it on the clipboard, so that he can directly paste the image
in an external application, or in Writer. (In this case, he may not want to save
the image separately on the disk.)

Note that the minimum capability is to capture the screen of a OOo module
(Impress/draw); but if OOo can capture any screen OUTSIDE its own window (e.g.
another application or desktop), it would be fantastic!

Good work Kami, unfortunatelly as mentions by others. you need to create
single issue for each.

from me:
Maybe you need to make a readme at your website.
How about better/ alternative icons ?
and how about VBA support (but it is complicated)

Thanks

Formatting and content changes applied to an OLE spreadsheet object are not
drawn correctly when the OLE object is closed (click outside object).

OLE object displays as it was *before* the changes were made. To force correct
display, you have to either a) scroll the OLE object off the screen then back
again, or b) switch applications and then switch back to Writer, or c) open OLE
object for editing a second time, then close OLE object.

To reproduce:

1. Insert a new OLE spreadsheet object by doing Insert | Object | OLE Object...
2. Select "Create New" and "OpenOffice 2.0 Spreadsheet" then click "OK"
3. Edit cell background colour and/or cell content, then click outside the OLE
object to close it
4. Observe that edited changes are not displayed
5. Choose one of the actions listed above to force redraw of OLE object
6. Observe that OLE object now displays changes previously made

[sc-issues] [Issue 61329] wrong error code given: s hould be 502, is 503

Lars, I notice in the issue activity you comment that the error should be 502
rather than 503.

>From the OO 2.0 Help File:
Error 502
Invalid argument
Function argument is not valid, for example, a negative number for the root
function.

Notice that =IF(A1<100,"2") has perfectly valid arguments for an IF formula and
is not the direct problem with the example Excel file. The problem does not
arise until the resulting text 2 is referenced in a formula in another cell and
treated like it was a number. Therefore, Error 502 would not be appropriate in
this case.

>From the OO 2.0 Help File:
Error 519
No result (#VALUE is in the cell rather than Err:519!)
Formula yields a value that does not corresponds to the definition, or a cell
that is referenced in the formula contains text instead of a number.

This is more appropriate error since this is the exact problem with the example
spreadsheet. I definitely agree with you that Error 503 is completely
inappropriate.

The results of the simplified example in my last comment were from Excel 2002,
so there will still be conversion problems from documents for Excel 2002 and
possibly older formats even if the formula results in a more descriptive error.

This works for me now.
The prior problem may have been due to the older MySQL version (4.1.13?) or
older ODBC driver.
Works fine with OO 2.0.1, mysql 5.0.11 and mysql-odbc 3.51.12

I'm attaching a smaller document that shows the same problems, but also shows
an additional, but I think related, problem. If you remove the empty "text
body" styled paragraphs I have inserted above and below each picture and
adjust the "Picture Frame" frame style to include 0.2" above and below each
frame, then the pictures end up on top of each other. Ideally, I'd like to
stylize things that way - no empty paragraphs and the caption frames including
a whitespace buffer above and below - but the over-lapping and mis-sequenced
pictures puts the kibosh on that.

IM(nsv)HO:
- thinking EE's have any relevant infulence on used diskspace/memory is a sign
of misunderstanding of the real code base of OOo.
- EE's have nothing to do with security, being trusthworthy of code, quality
control or whatsoever. Malicious code could be made in many ways, by purpose or
not. An author putting EE and malicious code at one line, just doesn't
understand. Thinking that software is more secure because no EE are present, is
just not rational.
- EE's never came up as possible issue in my professional/business contacts
(office software).
- for our school going children, there are many (possible) threats on the
computer/internet, that have nothing to do with EE's.
- there's not at all an argumented obvious contra EE's outcome, in Larry
Osterman's weblog.

EE's are not a culprit, nor a danger, above all no vehicles for Trojan Horses
(it's open source software: 'look, threre they are' :-) just some fun, a
harmless privilege for the coders.

If we consider this, I would advice that we leave the developers (and ourselves)
with the more important issues.

Invalid. Collective issue.

While 1 may be a nice goal, it cannot be achieved globally. There is just too
much funtctionality to use one unique identifier for every action. Even when it
was, something would be awkward/not easy to guess that a given functionality is
assigned to keycombo "X".

Many mnemonics are not set in the code, but assigned dynamically.
So when you see an inconsistency as in the example, please file seperate issues
for those.

But again: Not everytime this might be "fixable" since there simply aren't
enough letters in each words to pick a unique one, depending on the complexity
of the given menu-structure.

You also have to take localizations into account. While you might be able to get
a "perfect" assignment in english, keeping a similar level in other locations is
impossible.

number two is a wontfix for the given example.
Since the dialog is quite complex, it /has/ to keep the options from the
previous run, otherwise people would get nuts when they would repeatedly have to
choose the same options when doing the same operation a couple of times.

number three is a collective one again.
If you encounter functionality that is not available with keyboard or mouse
alone, then please file seperate issues for these scenarios.

number four is a collective issue as well.
If certain operations aren't recoverd by repeat, please file seperate issues.

collective issues cannot be handled, this one even is a collective issues in a
collective issue one.

While the individual points are not invalid for itself, this issue is.

Tried with gcc-4.0 and it builds OK.

I think this code is new in m152 from cws_src680_impress78 internal issue 127723
therefore it was not picked up by previous gcc4.1 patches?

Sorry I cannot solve this, I have cc to af for information but I know gcc4.1 is
only experimental at this stage

We have reproduced this problem; this is indeed due to the cache-server put in
place (hence some users saw this behaviour last year after the proxy servers
were in place). Ops and engineering are looking into this right now to resolve
this problem.

My point was is that hot-key assignment is _one_ big issue. The examples I gave
to illustrate that point, especially #1 and #2 are a major pain, but I do not
believe they should/could be solved individually without reviewing the overall
menu/hotkey layout.

I have some difficulty finding my way in the issue system. Is there any specific
place where menu suggestions can be made/discussed?

Just some additional comments on the perception of EE's.

Here, http://www.networkworld.com/newsletters/sec/0327sec1.html , an older
article about security. Notice this part:

"How much space in the source and object code does this Easter egg take? How
much RAM and disk space are being wasted by all the people who have installed
and are using this product? And much more seriously, what does this Easter egg
imply about the quality assurance at the manufacturer's offices?

An Easter egg is presumably undocumented code - or at least, it's undocumented
for the users. ...I think the failure implies that there is no test-coverage
monitoring in that quality assurance process."

In the article, the author is talking about MS products. Do we really want OOo
to be substituted and the target of analysis like this?

Here, http://www.soci.niu.edu/~rslade/secgloss.htm , we have a glossary of among
other things, information security terms. Here is part of what is said about
EE's:

"Opinion regarding easter eggs varies, from those who see them as simply
harmless jokes to those who consider the more complex inclusions to be trojan
horses. In general, however, the practice of including easter eggs and other
undocumented code in programs is detrimental to strict security."

By continuing to include the EE's, OOo may be practicing something that is
considered "detrimental to strict security". Is that the message we want
potential users to get?

Finally, here http://www.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=05/12/01/161213 we have a
parody that was written just this past December about aliens (real aliens, like
little green men from space) inserting malicious code into OSS projects like
Linux. The thing about writing something like this is that it must contain
little gems of truth to it and introduce concepts that are silly. Down near the
end we find this:

"As mentioned above, Windows is far too secure to be compromised by an alien.
Not only that -- and this is the important part -- there is no way for that
alien to hide code within Windows itself, while it could easily become a Linux
kernel contributor and slip its nefarious Easter eggs into Linux."

Why is that funny? Obviously because there is a belief that, thanks to the OSS
programming method, the presence of Easter eggs in Linux is ridiculous. And it
is probably equally ridiculous for other major OSS apps (which I think OOo is
one). Yet here we are with EE's included in the code.

While I appreciate the position of the programmers and others who don't mind the
EE's, I fear there is far more of a downside to including them than there is an
upside. Yes, the downside may be based a lot on perceptions. Unfortunately, it
is far too common in this day and age that perceptions = reality. And as we try
to push for wider adoption of OOo, this is one perception that we should not
have to battle if it can be corrected.

Once again, thanks for your consideration!

Jeff Causey

I will attach screen shots of slides 2 & 3 of the .pps file, so you can see what

OOo takes about a minute to launch on my machine. I'm assuming this is due
to the large number of fonts installed on my machine. I don't have an exact
count, but I'm guessing I have roughly 5000 font in the font path.

You can test this yourself by purchasing (not free, but not too expensive at
$50) the MegaFont pack from softmaker and then adding the standard.ttf
collection to your font path. The MegaFontcollection can be found here:
http://www.softmaker.com/english/megafont_en.htm

this is a follow-up of issue 32847.

Wrong plural strings in menu table - select have been corrected in the spec, but
are not reflected in th UI.

Although a minor issue I'd advice to fix this, before users raise issue about
broken functionality

Using a makro to access and update HSQL databases produces an error. Here is
the
macro code:

Sub ResetTMP

Dim DatabaseContext as Object
Dim s as string
Dim oDatenquelle as Object
Dim oHandler as Object
Dim oDatVerb as Object
Dim oStatement as Object
Dim oErgSet as Object
Dim sSQL as String

DatabaseContext = createUnoService("com.sun.star.sdb.DatabaseContext")
oDatenquelle = DatabaseContext.getByName("Adress_db")

If not oDatenquelle.IsPasswordRequired Then
oDatVerb = oDatenquelle.getConnection("","")
else
oHandler = oDatenquelle.createUnoService("com.sun.star.sdb.InteractionHandler")
oDatVerb = oDatenquelle.ConnectWithCompletion(oHandler)
end if

oStatement = oDatVerb.createStatement()
oStatement.ResultSetConcurrency =
com.sun.star.sdbc.ResultSetConcurrency.UPDATABLE
oStatement.ResultSetType = com.sun.star.sdbc.ResultSetType.SCROLL_SENSITIVE

sSQL ="SELECT ""TMP1"", ""TMP2"", ""TMP3"" FROM ""TMP"""

oErgSet = oStatement.executeQuery(sSQL)

oErgSet.absolute(1)

REM die folgenden 3 Zeilen ändern den Inhalt der 1.-3.

oErgSet.updateString(1, "text1") 'here you get the error
oErgSet.updateString(2, "text2")
oErgSet.updateString(3, "text3")
oErgSet.updateRow()

End sub

The error:

Basic runtime error
...exception
Type: com.sun.star.sdbc.SQLException
Message: Function Sequence error.

Using other databases (like access)the update function with the macro will run.

producing a view from a query does not run stable.

1. once created a view you can´t rename it
2. deleting a view is possible, but not creating a view with the same name
without closing OpenOffice (or reboot your system)
3. A view can´t be edited (only the basis query, later you have the problems
see
point 1. and 2.)
4. When there is a mistake in a view (can´t specify...) and your database
crashes, then you have no chance to get access to your tables. You get an error
and you can´t do anything then recreate the whole databasevery bad!
