[porting-issues] [Issue 54657] berkeleydb configure nee ds JAVA environment variable
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=54657 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Feb 26 02:37:06 -0800 2006 --- As explained by cmc at issue 62265, we should rely on the builder system to provide java commands such as java, jar, javadoc. I will call this the cmc model which should prevail. Where these java commands are not available (in a pure or vanilla gcj installation without the distribution packagers' tweaks) then the builder can prepare some environment variables before running configure. The current issue is a different situation. Here we have hardcoded java which is consistent with the cmc model. But berkeleydb upstream provides a fallback to JAVA where java is not found. There is no conflict with the cmc model if we accept the fallback to JAVA for the gcj case. If the gcj builder has a java then they are not affected, and we only fall back to the already configured JAVAINTERPRETER. So I will commit maho revised patch if cmc agrees. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I do not think any of this is important but perhaps it could just go on the todo list next time the text has to be changed. In some cases I am not certain what is intended so I ask a question, but there is no need to answer me. Section 1.3 last line ...share the same code basis. should read shared the same code base. Section 1.4 First sentence: udk.openoffice.org - udk should be italics Section 2.1 2nd paragraph reference to Jython - should this be Python? I notice a Jython exists but is not mentioned anywhere else... Section 2.3.1 Installation instruction should include StarOffice. The current version OpenOffice.org 1.1.0 is not correct Maybe need change this part so it does not get out of date with new versions. Perhaps something like Install the latest version of StarOffice or OpenOffice.org would be OK? Section 2.3.2 Remove reference to version number 1.1.0 Java version numbers may be out of date - consider a more general statement that does not get out of date - something like get the latest Java... (but I dont know if that is OK) As a general comment I do not think this Guide needs to tell people how to update their platforms, as it will always get out of date. I'm going to describe what I want once more: By default, I got a normal, portait-layouted DIN A4-page inside of Writer. That DIN A4-page is *always* only half-filled with text. Inside the text (at the beginning) is the mail merge-field which consists of both, a form of address (i. e. Dear Miss or Dear Mister) and a name (Sophie James or John Doe). Because I want to reduce costs, I don't want to print page by page and when the half number of pages is reached, turning the pages and continue the printing proccess. Instead, I want to say to OOo OK, the printer got DIN A4-pages, print 2 pages on ONE page by printing the first page at the upper page-part and the second page at the lower page-part - Go, do it!. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=62176 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Feb 26 09:05:13 -0800 2006 --- Im 99% sure that the gtk-update-icon-cache message is NOT related to the problem of yast hanging up. If it was, then it would be a massive bug in yast. (Since 1st of all it should not hang at all and 2ndly it would hide messages printed to stderr - that would be a huge bug by itself) Ans although locolor might be KDE-specific, there still may applications making use of an icon-cache (that is not Gnome or GTK-only). And as the message from the reporter shows, there /is/ an icon-cache present. If there would not be a cache, that directory would be skipped anyway. Updating the icon-cache can take a while (but should not take 15 minutes) I installed SuSE 10.0 again yesterday and now making a disk-image so I can plug it in in future more easily. Just remove the icon-theme.cache file from the locolor-directory and you won't get the message. You can take this as a test whether the gtk-update-icon-cache really is the problem (I doubt that, but well - it is just software...) I'd rather say it is the trigger-scripts that fail to run when called by yast. But just skip the menu-integration package and see whether that causes yast to hang as well. If it doesn't hang, then there's something wrong with the menu-integration package. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=62176 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Feb 26 10:26:49 -0800 2006 --- I was able to reproduce (need to check again whether this was just coincidence). The problem is not th gtk-update-cache or similar, but the trigger that is meant to avoid concurrent access to the rpm database by checking whether pgrep rpm returns a process-id and sleeps for 2 seconds if it does. The problem is that one defunct rpm process is sitting around, causing the install-script to go into an endless loop. Solution: get the process-ID of the install-script and kill it. Now the installation can continue. (do ps ax|grep /tmp/install look for a line with number [...] /bin/sh /tmp/install.another_number then run kill number) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [installation-issues] [Issue 62176] triggerscript goes to end less loop because of defunct rpm process that is created when installing with yast on SuSE
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=62176 User cloph changed the following: What|Old value |New value Ever confirmed| |1 Status|UNCONFIRMED |NEW Summary|2.0.2 rc1 installation|triggerscript goes to |problems on SuSe 9.2 KDE |endless loop because of |3.51 |defunct rpm process that | |is created when installing | |with yast on SuSE --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Feb 26 11:42:26 -0800 2006 --- tried again with same result. when installing with yast, it for some reason creates a defunct rpm process that leads to the loop in the trigger's install-script. Not caused by the modifications to update the icon-cache. (happens with 2.0.1 packages as well). Honestly I still wonder why people use yast to install rpms (it is so slow and cumbersome to setup for non-installation media - it cannot even update the directory itself, etc).. but anyway, here are the steps to reproduce on SuSE 10.0 (download-edition) based on a gnome-system: # 0) copy the installation-files flat to a directory (Yast doesn't search in subdirectories, so move the desktop-integration package to the same dir as the other ones) 1) Run yast from the system-menu (supply root-password) 2) In the Software category choose change installation source (not sure about the english label, but the badly translated german one is Installationsquelle wechseln) 3) Choose to add a local directory from the Add button and point to the path with the RPMs created in step 0) (note that the entry-field doesn't support ~ to specify the home-directory) 4) Leave the installation-Sources setup and switch to Install or Deinstall Software (Software installieren oder löschen) 5) Since the package-selection window doesn't allow multi-selection, search for openoffice.org (search only in package-name, not in description) then choose to install all packages from the current selection from the package-window's context-menu (Alle in dieser Liste → Installieren) 6) Deselect the desktop-integraton packages (you may want to search for openoffice.org*menus with wildcard-match enabled) 7) Choose the button Apply from the lower right corner. Yast will now install OOo (without the desktop-integration package which we will install in a second step) and run some Update-scripts (useless and not needed for OOo, but run nevertheless) 8) After the installation of the OOo packages is finished, choose to install additional packages and verify in a terminal that you still have a clean environment (no defunct rpm-processes) 9) Choose to install the suse-menus package and click apply The progress bar will reach 100% and then will stall. When checking in the terminal, you'll notice a defunct rpm process. 10) Kill the install-script run by the trigger to allow the installation to complete. Since the trigger is not run, you'll have to create the symlink in /etc (and run update-desktop-database) manually. Or better: Uninstall the menu-package and install from commandline (where no problem occurs at all) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If you try to find and replace a leading single quote, it will not find it in order to replace it. You can, however, find a single quote on its own in a cell. We have tried a few work arounds with some having success and others (like me) not. I tried all that was recommended in the above linked thread. This functionality is found to work fine in Microsofts Excel program. I am using Ver 2.0, both one downloaned off the OOo web site and the 2.0 released from SuSe. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Are you sure you really want to get involved in doing all of the micro fixes in OOo build env, instead of just fixing the outer environment to use gij as java ? e.g. using the jpackage infrastructure ? Could you explain a bit more? adding another dependency is not a good idea, and if you think so, gcj should install thier interpriter as java, gcj as javac somewhere appropreate. this should not be a OOo side problem. and from Jpackage project, one of its goal is To establish an efficient and robust policy for Java software installation. IMHO this is what debian or rpm or other packages managers should do. Personally I want to stick to original, vanilla installation of gcj. So # of problems (required environment variables) are not so large, so I'd like to go ahead. They are just only minor problems. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I don't consider it a 2.0.2-blocker, though, since there's a workaround. And no, after you removed the primary key, it's not that everything will work as expected - you will not be able to insert/update data then. Which, by the way, also holds for 2.0.
