Additional information - the feature in Excel that selects only visible cells
is called via Edit > Go To. Click Special. Click Visible Cells Only. Click
OK.
Dear developers please consider such feature as it would make certain tasks
much easier.

Still a problem in OOo 2.1
You can place the ImageMagick convert.exe and DLLs into openoffice subdirectory
"program" to have it found before windows/system32/convert.exe, but even then it
is not successful. Using Sysinternals "Processes Monitor" shows OOo accesses
the correct convert.exe, then the incorrect one, and then the correct one again.
It seems to do much more with the correct one, even accessing the DLLs, but the
final rendering does not show. This is a very important feature for those that
use latex and eps files generated with programs like Illustrator, and would like
to reuse the native eps files in presentations.

I don't see why it needs to be a file format issue. How about this approach...

(Note: please be aware that I am note sufficiently familiar with the code module
divisions to be certain of naming the technically right portion at each point of
my explanation.)

Filter option of "Contains" transparently uses regex to do the job (ditto for
"Begins with" and "Ends with" if they are also adopted).
- When user selects "Contains", Calc/filter code transparently adds regex
strings to user search string for processing/saving.
- When reading from file, Calc/filter code recognizes the regex strings and
present it to user as "Contains".

Support for "simple wildcards" could be done in a similar way, with them
presented as an alternative option to regex on the dialogue. Alternatively,
"simple wildcards" could be the default and are disable when regex support is
chosen. (The latter would maintain consistency with current regex selection
requirement.)

The performance impact of these string detections on loading should be
insignificant, i.e. totally unnoticeable to the user, even on slow hardware.
And from my limited knowledge of programming, the coding requirements should be
small also.

Discard these ideas if you want, I just thought that they were worth considering
as an alternative that would not require a file format change for the sake of
one application, especially when the change to the file format is arguably
unnecessary.

comments from issue 39271 re-included here, as they are pertinent

The caveman's typesetter, Latex, for example has a way of creating inline
equations by using a "$" notation example: "The formula $a^2 + b^2 = c^2$ is
known as Pythagoras's equation". Text separated and multi-line equations have
their own markup \begin{equation} ... \end{equation} and  \begin{eqnarray[*]}
... \end{eqnarray[*]}. The nature of latex is such that there need not be
software intelligence as to when to do what, because the the users actually
doing all the work. Thats not the paradigm of modern day software.

Automatically determine the mode of the formula editor, whether it is in
text-mode/normal, is a very practical feature to avoid several thought
distracting mouse clicks when creating mathematical documents with several
equations.

Open Office writer can be smart an embed the formula object in textmode setting
whenever the user is typing in a paragraph (taking cue from the text style
setting) and embed the formula object in normal mode when the style setting is
equation or something, or when the embed formula macro "type fn, select
it,press F3"

writer/formula editor groups, might have to work together to make a useful and
practical feature possible.

contents of attachment included here as it can be regarded part of description.

Example of creating formulas as normal mode in paragraph, before manually
converting to text mode.

Example of paragraph after manually converting the objects one by one to
text mode

In text mode formula editor tries to fit the objects into one line height. Note
that I had to do this 4 times for each of the formula objects, which software
intelligence in open office writer could have saved for me.

There are currently implementation issues (74359) with text mode which the
formula editor group are working. As of now only the integral and fraction
symbols display as expected within line height in text mode. So test with these
only for now. There are several ways authors may find useful in creating formula
objects. One way is to type a over b then select the text,
Insert->Object->Formula which (I feel) is the fastest and time efficient.
Another way is to do Insert->Object->Formula and then create a formula within
the editor. In either case the current situation requires the author to enter
the object and set it to text-mode.

Equations also are presented standing out on their own. In such situations they
may be associated with a style, which controls tab stops. It would be good to
have a predefined style which has a special option in the dialog box during
their creation, that indicates whether external objects (like formula editor
objects) need to be squished into fitting into the line height, or whether to
allow the objects to stay their natural height. The next line is in a style
called equation and the equation is in normal mode

Example of standalone equation

Another advertised way to create formula objects is using the following
“complete autotext” method (or whatever you call it). This too could be set to
invoke the formula editor in normal mode. (1) start on new line (2) type fn (3)
select the text fn (4) Press F3. You get the following result. Something like
this is natural to be in normal mode.

Example of equation created using F3 autotext

contextually invoke formula editor in appropriate mode.

Software intelligence can be built into open office writer
creating a formula object in the right 'mode' depending on the
invocation 'context'. It is very distracting and disconcerting to
repeatedly set right modes on formula objects when creating documents
with lots of formula objects.

Formula editor has two modes.
1) "text mode" in which the formula editor squishes the object
to display within line height.
This mode is used when the author wishes to type equations directly
in a paragraph, as part of some explanation, without making
the paragraph look bad due to varying line spacing.
2) "normal mode" in which the formula editor displays the object
with as much space as needed to present the formula.
This mode is used when the author wishes to have the equations stand
out clearly with

Usually when typing formula in a paragraph there could be many
"inline equations" referred to as "text mode" formula by
"formula editor".

Currently the Writer always invokes the formula editor to make
a "normal mode" formula. This requires the user to repeatedly
set the right mode often multiple times for every formula object
within a paragraph.

Suggesting
1) Formula Object be invoked in text mode if within an ordinary
   paragraph style.
2) Formula Object be invoked in normal mode, if in a style
(say named equation style) which has been created with an
option not to squish objects to line height.
3) Formula Object be invoked in normal mode, when the "fn"
   Complete AutoText method.
(start newline, type fn, select the text fn, press F3)
4) other ideas you may have

using open office writer 2.1 (released) on WinXP

There was an old bug originally filed against the formula editor
group, which was closed as is claimed does not come within their
preview. (issue 39271)

just FYI, Another related issue (issue 74359) exists which
formula editor group are yet to work on but that should not
effect fixing this one.

See attachment visualize the issue.

Sorry, no (acceptable) way to fix this.
Each index entry creates one paragraph with tab stop in front of the page
number.
In the example the length of the headline allows the tab stop to be in the first
line while the page number comes after the paragraph break.

In the footer of my document I clicked Insert->Fields->Other the DOCINFORMATION
tab, Modified, date and time. It appears correctly until I save the file and
exit the document. When I open the document again it appears jumbled, it
inserts the author name, the time is correct, but the date shows A1/P1
instead.

Hi there.
I'm using m6 on win98se accessing a .mdb file through ADO connection.

When I open any query I can't drag and drop it's result to a Calc document.

To do this, I need to create the query as view and, then, open the view to drag
an drop the result.

I can't be sure right now, but I remember to do the same task in previous
versions.

Thank you.

Hwoarang

Yes, that's right. For an Expert user this still leaves the option to
recover the original string.

But an "normal" user will not know what UTF-7 is an will just say
"I see garbage in the window title of my PostScript viewer".

(It was reported like this by Japanese users who had just switched from
Windows to Linux. Of course they have no idea what UTF-7/8 is, they
just don't want to see junk in the window title).

pl> We could quietly change this to UTF8, but is this the

UTF-8 "happens" to work with most viewers when running in UTF-8
locale (which is "usually" the default on Linux nowadays).

Note the "happens" and "usually", i.e. I'm not sure either whether it
is a good idea to rely on such accidents. Something unexpected might break ...

Philip - the %%Title comment is -optional- ;-) ergo, we want to simply not emit
it (as the patch suggests), and as FireFox does [ where the title would in
theory be way more useful ;-]. So - can we just drop it ? [ in that case the
filename will be used by most viewers ]

The DSC standard specifies not much in regard of encoding. PostScript itself
says that a string is an array containg element values from 0 to 255 which are
in an undefined encoding. However there is a DSC %%DocumentData mark that states
whether the file is 7bit ascii clean, 8bit or binary

• Clean7Bit—The page description consists of only byte codes 0x1B to
0x7E (ESC to ‘~’), 0x0A (LF), 0x0D (CR), and 0x09 (TAB). Whenever
0x0A and/or 0x0D appear, they are used as end-of-line characters.
Whenever 0x09 appears, it is used as a tab character (i.e. whitespace).
• Clean8Bit—The same as Clean7Bit, but the document may also contain
byte codes 0x80–0xFF.
• Binary—Any byte codes from 0x00–0xFF may appear in the document.

Strictly spoken this %%DocumentData applies only to the PostScript document data
itself, not to the DSC comments. But who knows what implementations are out
there :-).

Up to now OOo produces 7bit clean PostScript files, which is sort of
traditional. We could change that to Clean8Bit and use UTF8. I'm just not sure
what might/might not break in some circumstances when you use 8 bit PostScript.
Probably printing itself would not be influenced, but sending a PostScript
attachment and such. I can understand that UTF-7 is a hinderance to you. We're
caught in undefined country here since there is no standard as to what encoding
the string should be. We could quietly change this to UTF8, but is this the
right thing to do ? What old hardware/software combination will break because of
this ?

I chose UTF-7 above the previous behaviour, because at least it will not lose
information (the complete unicode will be still contained).

Please, anybody with an opinion advise here. The change to UTF8 can be done
easily, only we should be sure that we actually want that.

I cannot see how UTF-7 should gain anything about the previous
ASCII with non ASCII characters replaced by ‘?’.

Look at this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo "無題1" | iconv -f utf-8 -t utf-7
+cSGYTA-1
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ echo "bug-241015-täst.odt" | iconv -f utf-8 -t utf-7
bug-241015-t+AOQ-st.odt
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

I.e. with UTF-7 you get “+cSGYTA-1” instead of “??1” and
“bug-241015-t+AOQ-st.odt” instead of “bug-241015-t?st.odt”

If the viewer cannot decode that, this looks even worse than
the original question marks.

If the “PostScript Language Document Structuring Conventions
Specification”said that the text behind %%Title should be UTF-7, then
we could fix the viewers to expect UTF-7 there and display it
correctly. But the standard doesn't seem to specify which
encoding should be used there. In that case UTF-7 makes
the problem only worse.

Hi,

I've created several categories of templates. But when I open File > Templates >
Edit, only a generic name SansNom0, SansNom1, etc is shown.
In the dialog, their is a groupuinames.xml files that has the good category
names inside.
Verified also under Win XP both in FR release of 2.1
I'll attach the screen shot of the template category dialog and of the edit
dialog boxes.
Kind regards - Sophie

I am not talking about pasting the link and choosing "Open".
I am talking about "Open in new window" where document opens in the browser
with the toolbar from OO (see attached "inplace.png" - browser window is
circled in green and OO toolbar is circled in blue).

This happens on 3 machines for me (and does not happen on 2 other machines).
I can provide remote access for developer to the machine where I see the
problem.

Yes, that's it. As I'm using usually NeoOffice on Mac, there exists no newer
version.
But I could create a database with NeoOffice, set the default value with the new
OpenOffice version, open it with NeoOffice and it wasn't set. But when I opened
it in OpenOffice again, it's still set.
So, everything will get fine some when, there is no need to change something
more.

By bad API design those functions are not allowed to throw any exception beside
the usual RuntimeException. But since RuntimeException are usually not to be
caught this would immediately result in a crash. :-/

Thus won't fix.
If you like you may submit a feature request for a new API which seems to be the
only way to allow for meaningful exceptions.

Hmm - a gcc bug? ;-) I don't see the error here with gcc 4.1.0; I'll try to
reproduce with gcc 4.1.1.

Maybe we could remove the NOOPT from the makefile.mk for good?
testtools/unxlngx6.pro/lib/bridgetest_inprocess seems to work OK even with the
optimizations on.

I just stumbled across the same problem:
nfs client: openSUSE 10.2
nfs server: suse 10.1
OpenOffice: 2.1
the files are on a autofs mounted nfs home directory in the Documents
directory.
on both, server and client, the nlockmgr are running.

The problem is also, at every startup, an empty Setup.xcu_tmp file is created
below the home directory, and I have to go through the first run startup
wizard. I checked that the mounted partition is not full.
I move the .openoffice.org2 directory on a local partition, and created a
symlink, then it was the last time, I saw this first startup wizard.
I did the same for the directory, where the files are in, and it fixed it
temporarily.

After a com.sun.star.awt.XMessageBox is created with "createMessageBox" it
becomes immediately visible. I find this behaviour confusing although of cours
the messagebox does not become active before the "execute" method has been
called.
the following codesnippet can be used to reproduce the issue:

Object oToolkit =
m_xMCF.createInstanceWithContext("com.sun.star.awt.Toolkit", m_xContext);
XMessageBoxFactory xMessageBoxFactory = (XMessageBoxFactory)
UnoRuntime.queryInterface(XMessageBoxFactory.class, oToolkit);
// rectangle may be empty if position is in the center of the parent peer
Rectangle aRectangle = new Rectangle();
XMessageBox xMessageBox =
xMessageBoxFactory.createMessageBox(_xParentWindowPeer, aRectangle, "errorbox",
com.sun.star.awt.MessageBoxButtons.BUTTONS_OK, _sTitle, _sMessage);
if (xMessageBox != null){
short nResult = xMessageBox.execute();
}

When adding a PPM image to a presentation (format P3: 24 bit ASCII image), OOo
doesn't handle the max colour value correctly. See the attached screenshots.
The image in question has the max value 1701, but it seems that OOo assumes a
max value of 255, and "loops" the colour intensity of pixels with higher colour
values. The screenshot from Gimp shows what the image should look like.
