This probably is a UI issue. Steps to reproduce: 1. In OO.o Calc, open some UTF8 CSV file with umlauts in it and set charset to utf8 in the import dialog. 2. Close the document. 3. Open the UTF8 document again. The charset is still set to utf8. Don't change it. 4. Look at the umlauts: They're scrambled (like UTF8 umlauts displayed as ISO8859-1). 5. CLose the document. 6. Open the UTF8 document again. Set the charset drop-down first to some other charset (eg. ISO8859-1), then again to UTF8. 7. Look at the umlauts: Now they're displayed okay again. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It's fine with me to consider the unnecessary file recovery under issue 72520 and concentrate on the directory corruption in this issue. In fact, the only reason I'm not ready to let OpenOffice off the hook where that's concerned is that because the directory was fine right before OpenOffice ran, I simply can't imagine what else could have caused it. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. In my view this bug did not exist in OOo a few months ago but I do not remember what 2.0 flavour I used back then. I will attach two OOo Writer files here, one that triggers the bug and one that does not trigger it. They differ only in the presence / non-presence of the mentioned UTF-8 character in the Hyperlink, as may be seen from the following xmldiff output of the unpacked content.xml: # xmldiff OOo.testcase.buggy/content.xml OOo.testcase.bugfree/content.xml [update, /office:document-content[1]/office:body[1]/office:text[1]/text:p[1]/draw:a[1]/@xlink:href, http://maps.google.de/maps?f=qhl=deq=Strae+42,+Buzzz=16om=1] Hence I conclude that the ß UTF-8 character triggers this bug. By the way, a second identical ß UTF-8 character is contained in the hyperlink's text in both attached files, and this does not trigger the bug. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=74410 Issue #|74410 Summary|Page's edges and its layout preview Component|Spreadsheet Version|OOo 2.0.3 Platform|PC URL| OS/Version|Windows XP Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|formatting Assigned to|spreadsheet Reported by|nestea --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Feb 10 18:57:58 + 2007 --- For convenience I'll use an image as exmaple. I have not tried it, but I suppose (hope) it will also work with text. Opened a new document and the edges of the page set as followed: left 0,5 cm right 0,5 cm top 1 cm bottom 1 cm insert a pic. (well okay just change the right edge but I needed it that way) Is not the bug: The edges appeared now, why are they not from the beginning there? And if I do not change the page's layout, an other way to let them show up is with File Page Preview. Well it's not that important, just annoying. Okay now put the image some pixels away from the thicker line and page preview it. Well as you see, or I hope you see, that it is still 2 cm from the page's border away. The edge (thicker line) should be at the end of cell H, at least mine. Now to not change the image's ratio, I have to displace it (annoying) and change the cell's H width so that the thicker line jumps over to I. Now move the image to the page's edge and page preview it. And what if I do not want to have any edge or at 0,30 cm? So go and change it to: right 0,00 cm or 0,30 cm. Page preview it and as you see nothing happened. Change the width of cell I and page preview it. [the image's width only changes if the thicker line crosses it. if you do not get the width the first time you have to undo it and you know, just annoying] Well I hope I could help and that you already have been noticed about that bug. If not, what a pitty so if this could be fixed I would be very glad and yes, less annoyed. :D I am sorry I got kinda lost, while I was writing, so if it has been incomprehensible, I am sorry. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. He suggested that Perhaps you are using the OO build produced by your Linux distributor? Indeed I was using OO 2.0.4, product created by Red Hat based on OpenOffice.org , under Fedora Core 6. As suggested, I have downloaded on Feb 7 the build from the OpenOffice.org site (version 2.1). THIS BUILD FROM THE OOo SITE GIVES NO DIFFICULTY FOR SELECTION TOOLBOX. [framework-issues] [Issue 74415] organize file handling aro und open/save import/export
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=74415 Issue #|74415 Summary|organize file handling around open/save import/export Component|framework Version|OOo 2.1 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|ENHANCEMENT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|ui Assigned to|tm Reported by|jes --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Feb 10 21:47:56 + 2007 --- File handling is probably the single most commonly used part of OOo. Unfortunately it is often one of the most confusing and inconvenient parts as well. I believe this could be greatly improved by organizing the file handling around this basic framework: Open/Save -- no file format changes Import/Export -- full user control over source and destination This would streamline the use of native files and help avoid the confusion naive users currently experience when saving their document in a non-native format, because it uses different words and menus for different operations. The Export operation would not register the file as saved, thus naturally encouraging users to also save their file, giving them a native-format version. Exporting a file would also not change the name or file type of the current document, allowing easy creation of foreign-format files, e.g. to send as an attachment. The import/export pathways would include a re-designed user interface for completely specifying the file types and access to all available options for the file translation. This would avoid current problems such as * Loss of data or work when a document is saved in a foreign format. E.g, creating a copy of a document, e.g. a spreadsheet, as CSV using Save As, then exiting Calc to find that no native format file exists. * Inconvenience when saving in a foreign format. E.g, creating by Save As a copy of a Writer document as .doc--now the current document has it's name changed and the Recent Documents list points to the .doc, rather than the native file. * Mysterious behavior when opening foreign files. E.g. opening an Excel file from Calc and having the file open in Writer because it is actually a CSV or HTML file. Instead of opening such a file (since a file format change is needed), it would need to be imported, where the user could specifically request conversion from CSV to a Calc document. * Confusing UI issues. The import/export interface would include descriptive names for each file type, in place of the current file type drop-downs which have long lists of often cryptic format names. Access to options for the file transformation could be presented in a uniform way, rather than through ad hoc option dialogs. This would not introduce any new functionality, only re-organize and define a clear policy for the existing file-handling operations. If implemented carefully, I believe this could make OOo more robust and predictable, as well as easier to use. However, this is still a rather fundamental change, so I don't know if it is even practical to consider. If it would help, I can prepare a more detailed proposal. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 70770] Icon for old mail merge ca lls wizard if put into Table Data toolbar
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=70770 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Feb 10 21:53:27 + 2007 --- mbayer-rainerbielefeld: Please re-read the description with more care! It says very clearly that this error occurs only if you put both icons into the TABLE DATA toolbar (it says so even in the summary), and not if you put them into the Standard toolbar, as you did (your movie shows this). I did a little comic strip with my German version of OOo, in order to make it easier for you to reproduce. I hope you enjoy it... 1. Open the Writer module. 2. Open the Data Sources View (F4). 3. From a data source (like Bibliography), drag and drop a field (like Author) into your document. 4. Now click on the small arrow at the right side of the Table Data toolbar (not Standard toolbar, not Formatting toolbar, but TABLE DATA toolbar, as it already says in the summary line). 5. From the menu, choose Customize Toolbar... 6. Be sure you are in the customizing dialogue of the Data Source Browser. - Item #1 in my screenshots. 7. Be sure you are customizing the Table Data toolbar (Tabellenansicht in the German localization)! - #2 8. In the middle, scroll down: you see the Mail Merge... (Seriendruck...) command, which is present by default in this toolbar. Note this is Mail Merge... with three dots, which is supposed to call the Mail Merge Wizard. - #3 9. Click on Add... (Hinzufügen...). - #4 10. In Category (Bereich), choose Documents (Dokumente). - #5 11. In Commands (Befehle), choose Mail Merge (Seriendruck). Note this is Mail Merge without dots, which is supposed to call the old mail merge dialogue (without wizard). - #6 12. Click on Add (Hinzufügen). - #7 13. Leave the dialogue by clicking on Close (Schließen). 14. You may now move down the just added command Mail Merge (Seriendruck) using the arrows. 15. Note you have now two commands labelled Mail Merge (Seriendruck) in this toolbar: the one present by default, with three dots, which calls the the mail merge wizard, - #8 and the one just added, without dots, which calls the old mail merge dialogue. - #9 16. Close the dialoge by clicking on OK. 17. In your Writer window, you will now find two identical icons in the Table Data toolbar, both with a tooltip saying Mail Merge (Seriendruck), but the one present by default and supposed to call the wizard - #10 (#8 in the customizing dialogue) and the other just added and supposed to call the old mail merge dialogue - #11 (#9 in the customizing dialoge). Note the tooltip is just Mail Merge (Seriendruck), i.e. without dots, for both of them. 18. Now click first on the one, than on the other: either of them calls the mail merge wizard. 19. For a cross-check, remove the Mail Merge icon from the Table Data toolbar: redo steps 4 trough 7. 20. In the middle, scroll down and select the recently added command Mail Merge (Seriendruck) - the one without dots - #12 (#9 in step 15). 21. Remove it by clicking on Modify (Ändern), and Delete (Entfernen) in the menu. - #13 22. Leave the dialogue by clicking OK. 23. Now costomize you Standard toolbar: click on the small arrow at the right end of the Standard toolbar. From the menu, choose Customize toolbar... 24. Click on Add... (Hinzufügen). 25. Like in steps 10 through 13, choose Documents (Dokumente) in Category (Bereich) - #14, Mail Merge (Seriendruck) in Commands (Befehle) - #15, then click on Add (Hinzufügen) - #16, then on Close (Schließen). 26. You now have the command Mail Merge (Seriendruck) with no dots - #17 in the Standard toolbar - #18 of the Writer module - #19. Click on OK in order to leave the customizing dialogue. 27. In your Writer window, you will now find two identical icons, both with a tooltip saying Mail Merge (Seriendruck). Note the tooltip is just Mail Merge (Seriendruck), i.e. without dots, for both of them. 28. The one of them, which you just added to the Standard toolbar, calls the old mail merge dialogue - #20 (#17 in the customizing dialogue). The other, present in the Table Data toolbar by default, calls the mail merge wizard. - #21 The behaviour described in step 28 is OK, the behaviour described in step 18 is a defect: OOo writer should behave like in step 28 in both cases. I can reproduce this error with Sun's OOo 2.1 (Build 9095) under Linux, German localization, and with Novell's OOo 2.0.4 (2.0.4.7 - Build 9073) under Linux, English and German localization (both). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
