Unfortunately, apparently nothing has happened on this issue as of today.
I believe it would increase the audience of OpenOffice and adoption of
Opendocument format as well as it could be a killer feature.
For me personally, this feature would finally enable me to never again sending a
.doc email attachment, but only *odt.pdf

A description in english about how this feature could work you can find here:

Maybe it would make sense to offer a bitmap format for the clipboard in
addition to the meta-file format
we currently have. A meta-file may be used for pasting by some applications
(probably mostly on
Windows), but bitmaps are supported by far more applications.

I am currently not sure if this must be implemented by the chart or the
embedded object framework.

When sorting a spreadsheet, the Notes (Insert Note) are still related to
their correct cell, but they show up at the place where they were before the
sorting. This is rather annoying if the spreadsheet has many lines. E.g. the
(sorted) line is at position 5, and the note shows up at line 300, where the
line was before the sorting.

I have to say that I agree with jfilby in that it really is counter initiative
to have to check 'collate' to get the number of copies you have selected
especially with a single page document ('collate' is greyed out for until you
increase the number of copies for a single page doc).

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. The document that causes the
freeze contains confidential information so I can't let any one else see it,
this is the only document that is more that a couple of pages and the only one
that will cause the freezes that I have. I have tried to make a document with
this issue but I have failed which suggested that it is something in the
original document causing the problem. I cut n pasted the contents to a new
document the new document also freezes OOo on save. I tried the original
document in a different user account and I get no freezes (so far) so I think
that the may be something in Library/Application Support/openoffice.org2/
interacting with the document. I renamed Library/Application
Support/openoffice.org2/ and OOo recreated it and now I get no freezes with the
document.
I suggest that anyone with this issue deletes Library/Application
Support/openoffice.org2/ from there home directory and see if that fixes the
issue.

os - If froyshov found the behaviour strange, that means that the UI is not
natural. And I am sure other people will have the same problem. Thus, this
should be changed in order to work as expected by the user.

I think thus that the issue should be reopened.

So, ok. I can see some enhancement posibilities here.
But as you say in the end, you stuck different things together, thus it could be
closed as INVALID: 1 problem = 1issue...

But let's see your points

--
1. LS and LF buttons must not have any characteristics. They are plain markers
by themselves. So when we select these buttons, gray out the character style.

- Ok

--
2. Provide the other parts with their own independent styles, not dependent upon
LS and LF.

- Ok

--
3. By default, insert LS and LF in TOC (and also in Index). That is because most
users would like to make them hyperlinked.

- Ok. But not in Alphabetical indexes. It is not possible to reference to a
word when having a page bumber as refrerence. This is out of topic here anyway.

--
4. Let all entries (except LS and LF) inherit their character style from the
actual text in the document (including superscrip and subscript).

The internet link style is NOT preferred for these entries, because too many
lines in the TOC list it makes it unreadable.

- here you address 3 different problems in one! :(

a) all entries inherit their character style from the actual text in the
document

- No, because I certainly don't wan't to have a TOC with 24pts font size
entries, just because my Heading have this formatting. The TOC character style
must remain different.

b) including superscrip and subscript

- see issue 27377.

c) No Internet link character style - unreadable.
- Ok.

--
5. Instead of editing exisiting styles, provide a direct Format - Character
dialog.

- Not sure this is more convenient than having a well known style name. Having
different hard formattings instead of short style name may have an influence on
the performance...

==
Sum up: Make the the default TOC structure containing LS/LE, whithout Internet
link formatting and disable character style setting for LS/LE.

froyshov -
That's a problem related to databases based on Calc (I think there already is an
issue about that). For the changes to work, you need to close OOo (even the
quickstarter) and then reopen the document.

Well. it sounds like this issue should lead to troubleshout a very specific
installation case...
Please test this with a normal installation if you can and compare.
Yes, there may be some permission problems.
Test if this applies to other keys, in other application (Calc, Impress...)

Saying most users want it like this is barely your feeling.
We need a real case of a lot of people wanting for it before taking action.

Some things speak against this feature request:
1) We are not found of changing shortcuts or defaults in general because of a
lot of dependencies.
2) As you said, it is customable but it is not so hard to do.
3) I never needed this feature, so it already makes 50% of the users NOT
needing it ;)
4) - the most important: Ctrl+PgUp/Dn has been set for accessibility reasons.
Disabled people really need a default to reach Header and Footer with the
keyboard. So, please provide then an other keyboard shortcut for Header/Footer
before we can start thinking about changing this.

hdu: I have to apology about the patch. I didn't confirmed it actually fixed
the Osaka font problem.

Today, I've just built OOo and checked how my patch works, and found the problem
was caused by other place, i#60945.

Osaka font's pOS2-usWinAscent and pOS2-usWinDescent are actually zero, but
bCJKCapable is also zero so the patch actually doesn't change anything. The
actual problem is caused with the change in nExtLeading calculation.

I've not fully understood the problem in i#60945, but I think it should be
solved with other way since it could cause some font rendering problems.

For my patch attached in this issue, could you revert it? (although I don't
think it causes any problem...)

I have been able to reproduce this with the ubuntu build of RC3 and the Windows
official build of RC3 2.2

1. Open attached document
2. Try the editing the contour of the diagram. Not possible anymore (I know that
it was possible in 2.1). Not using right mouse click - Wrap Edit contour (is
not there), not via Format Wrap Edit contour (greyed out).

Expected behaviour:
Just like graphic objects, editing contours should also be possible on diagrams.
The positioning of diagrams is not perfect in OOo, so manual adjustment of the
contours is desirable.

Well, after playing around with other fonts (same problem in many cases) and in
Word, I think more about an import problem.
I found the Word feature Table properties - Table - Options - [X] Automatically
resize to fit contents set in the document.
When I uncheck this option, Word also shows the same line wrapping.
When I then adjust the table in Word manually to fit the contents, OOo shows the
same import as in Word.

Conclusion: I con't think we support Automatically resize to fit contents in
tables, do we?

The edit contour dialog does not feature a preview of the object, which makes
editing rather difficult.

Sometimes I see the object flashing, but it is not stable at all

Steps to reproduce:
1.
Try this document:
http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/43774/OOo%20demo%20tekst.odt
or simply create a new document in 2.2RC3 and insert a bitmap picture

2. Try edit contour (either through right mouse click Wrap Edit contour or
via the main menu Format Wrap Edit contour.

Result:
Only when drawing e.g. circles the object of which the contour is edited appears
and disappears in a flash.

Expected result:
The object should be available all the time.

Fantastic analysis and fast response too!

I agree with your responses where you have said no, except point#5.

The current arrangement forces you to pick a character style and then edit that
style ITSELF.

But it does not allow the user to do any of the following:
1. Create *another* style based on the currently selected style.
2. Create a new style and apply it.
3. Just apply different formats to the elements, without bothering to change the
styles.

The only way to do any of that is to quit the edit TOC dialog altogether, and
create another character style first, and then come back to edit the TOC.

So the method I suggested is much more flexible.

Thanks!

Again I read http://www.microsoft.com/typography/otspec/recom.htm, and confirmed
that external leading should not be used for old style Macintosh truetype fonts.

I created new patch not to add rTo.mnExtLeading for this type of font. I've
tested the patch with Osaka font and works fine.

After having updated Ooo from 2.0 to 2.1 when I open an ODB database with native
content (no link to existing database) it opens on Forms (normal). When I click
on Tables (left frame) it says +/- (it's in French) Cannot read the tables.
I tried it with several others and it didn't work as well. When I downgrade to
2.0 it works perfectly.
With dbf linked database it does also strange things (see an other bug report).

Issue linked with issue #|75483

After having updated OOo to 2.1, when I open a ODB file linked with DBF
databases it opens the tables with as column headers the fields of the first
line and as the line contents either blank or squares-full fields ().
When I downgrade to 2.0, it works perfectly.
I have a close issue with native ODB databases on issue #75483.

Since my report seems confusing (sorry!), here is the summary of the problem
about Osaka font in 2.2.0RC3.

1. As noted in #i73811#, now rTo.mnExtLeading is properly calculated in 2.2.0.
2. The fix in 1. make Osaka font use additional rTo.mnExtLeading, but external
leading should not be used for Old Mac TrueType fonts (in my opinion).
3. gcache_ftype.c-extlead-mac.diff fixes the problem.
4. #i72678# is not related in this case, so please revert the
gcache_ftyp.cxx.diff.

In the PDF-Dialog Box, you can select in the tab 'General'-'Range': =
'Selection', and only the current worksheet is exported. Though I agree, the
name is NOT very informative.

Maybe the following label would be better: Current Worksheet / Selection, or
add a separate option Current Worksheet.

Is it possible to mark the following similar issues as duplicates of this one
(which seems to be the most up to date and the most precise) ? It could help to
merge the votes.
- Issue 66097 - Unicode input
- Issue 34050 - alternative way of entering unicode characters
- Issue 59974 - Ctrl-Shift Unicode Input Method should apply ...
- Issue 69468 - Keyboard unicode input (Ctrl+Shift+NNN) fails

Also related issue (is it possible to have only one method for all platforms,
using CTRL + SHIFT combination ?) :
- Issue 61540 - Standard MS Windows Alt-Key Unicode input fails

NB: still missing in 2.1 with Gnome 2.14.
Issue 69468 discussion is also interesting (input method change).

I am a software developer. I am writing two applications. They watch for
clipboard changes and collect clipboard history for further reusing
(Flashpaste and Clipdiary if you need it for testing).
They work fine in most applications (even in MS Office :), but there is one
problem with OpenOffice package. It's very strange but when I try to get data
from clipboard (after user has copied text in OO Writer) It takes 3-5 seconds
to get first clipboard format... I have this trouble only with OpenOffice both
Writer and Calc. In these 5 seconds user can't paste text to any other
application (if Flashpaste is running).

I use VS 2005, C++, MFC.

How to reproduce?

You can use ClipSpy (http://www.codeproject.com/clipboard/clipspy.asp) for
testing and reproducing.

1.Run ClipSpy first, then open any ODT document. Also run Notepad.
2.If you copy any string from Notepad, you can see that data in ClipSpy will
be refreshed immediately.(less than 0.5 sec)
3.After that switch to Writer and try to copy text from it. Now ClipSpy will
refresh data with big delay, about 5 seconds. It's a problem.
4.Close and restart ClipSpy - try to do 2 and 3 items – in this case problem
is absent

Some note:

Problem appears only if OO was started after Clipboard Viewer (i.e.
ClipSpry). If you run OO before Clipboard Viewer problem is absent and data is
refreshing without delay (I don't use auto start OO when Windows logs on). So
there is strong dependence on reciprocal position OO Clipboard Viewer and
external Viewer in clipboard chain.

Problem doesn't depend on what format of data we can try to get from
clipboard. I tried get only one format (CF_TEXT) and had this problem.

Application hungs on the following string

hglbCopy = GetClipboardData(uFormat);

in my application. And I think on the string

hgData = pDO-GetGlobalData ( etc.cfFormat );

in ClipSpy.

I work in AMD Atlon 3000+, Windows XP SP2.

Thanks in advance ;)

Dear developers,
please consider targeting this feature for 2.3 as it seems to be in demand -
look at the number of dups and votes for 3545 and also number of dups and
votes for http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=12909 (which seems
to be duplicate of 3545).

Thanks a lot for your attention.

Sorry, I can't establish a tunnel. Either the key is not installed correctly or
the passphrase I have written down is wrong. :-[

To make sure that I have the correct passphrase I attached a new key. Please
install the *new* attached key and in case the *old* one was already installed
please remove it again.

I comitted the previous patch to cws_src680_dmake48. Documentation is still
missing but here is a short explanation:

A new .WINPATH attribute to generate Windows style paths (with regular slashes)
instead of the default cygwin style (POSIX) paths for dmake's dynamic macros
was added to dmake.

This attribute is specific for cygwin dmake executables and non-cygwin
environments ignore this attribute.

The windows style paths use regular slashes ('/') instead of the usual windows
backslash ('\') as directory separator to avoid quoting problems (It still
is a cygwin dmake!) and cygwin as well as native windows programs should have
no problems using this (c:/foo/bar) path representation.

The affected macros are $@, $*, $, $?, $, $, $^ and $(PWD), $(MAKEDIR) and
$(TMD).

Examples:

Content of $(PWD) without .WINPATH (default): /cygdrive/c/temp

Content of $(PWD) with .WINPATH set: c:/temp

In technical books it is a frequently used technique to sign some paragraphs
with special icons. For example if the author wants to show that a paragraph
contains something important than he/she can put an image near the paragraph.
Usually a exclamation mark in a triangle or a straight index-finger is used to
call attention.

Other example is if the author wants to sign in a lecture book that the reader
(=student) should write something by his/her own words. In this case the icon
could be a paper with a pencil.

Originally I would do such a paragraph in OOo with 3 cm indent from left, then
insert a frame and put the proper image into this frame. But if I have in a 300
page long document 100 paragraphs like this then it is a very boring job to do
this all the time.

I would like to have a tool called graphical initial or something like this
which is similar to normal initial (Format = Paragraph = Drop Caps) with the
difference that it would not show the first letter of the paragraph but a
special image. Using this as a style I could reformat easily all the paragraphs
in my 300 page long document.

Possibly relevant information:

The computer on which I was trying this had an assortment of other bizarre
issues. The store where I bought it fooled around with it for two days, then
gave up, suggesting I try a different model. I did. The new one is running
Vista Business (the old one was Vista Home Premium). With the new computer,
there appears to be no problem cutting from a web page and pasting into OOo.
Therefore,

1) I no longer have the problem myself and
2) I no longer have a means of testing proposed solutions.

Not sure what should become of this issue as a result, considering nobody else
has successfully documented the problem.

OpenOffice.org Writer

I suggest deprecating these export options and offer HTML 4.01 instead.

(Normally I would not set P2 for issue like this, but in this particular case
we have press affected by the problem. Depending on how we deal with the issue
we may get bad publicity, good publicity or no publicity at all. Please
consider this iisue for 2.2.1).

Repro steps:
1. Open attached document and press Ctrl-A.
2. Click Tools-Word Count. Note that counts in Current Selection differ
from Whole document by a lot.
3. Click OK. Modify doc in some way (for example delete one of paragraph marks
in the end of the document).
4. 2. Click Tools-Word Count. Note that counts in Current Selection and

I am using OOo since 2000 as it was StarOffice 5.2. This is a great project
which, on my opinion, is now quite mature to go public! But it focuses on MS O
compatibility rather then to develop its own features in more depth. For the
second scenario to develop it is extremely needed a LIGHTWEIGHT STANDALONE
viewer for ALL OOo document formats, so I don't need anymore to convert my
native documents to some external states, but simply make an attachment of
relevant viewer or even simply provide a link for it.

Moreover, it was a great idea, expressed already here, to provide a link for OOo
website to download a FULL VERSION of OOo suite.

Spread a word of OOo!!! :)

This is an extension / customization of issue 36096
(http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=36096).

APPLIES TO:
 - Printing a Worksheet
 - Exporting as PDF

When printing / exporting as pdf, I would like to suppress trailing empty pages.

Trailing empty pages are empty pages at the *END of the document*, so they are
almost always annoying. Please note, that this issue is NOT trivial.

Unfortunately, when I export dozens of pages, I select to have the *page number*
and the *total number of pages* in the footer. Unfortunately, the total number
of pages will count these empty pages, too. Therefore, even IF I manually select
which pages to export to pdf, the *total number of pages* will include these
empty pages.

IF this is an official document, then the total number of pages will point to
non-existent pages, which will make Calc pretty useless in official settings.
[Documents from governmental sources ALWAYS contain the total number of pages
explicitly stated, so that, whatever page is available, the reader knows how
many pages the document should have.]

I will attach such a PDF-document and the corresponding Calc document from which
the document was created. The last page is empty (excluding the header and
footer), therefore I would have welcomed a way to:
 - suppress the printing / exporting of this last page
 - calculate the total number of pages without these empty page

Tested with OOo 2.1, W2k SP4.
