Yes, that IS a problem, I have some large spreadsheet documents that need appp.
20 seconds for save. But it's no defect.

We need practicable suggestions how to improve "felt performance". Additionally
to the "real" contents of a document, save process saves information concerning
latest view to the document and other "non content" information, so it would be
necessary to created some kind of "twin document" for edits during the save
process. I do not believe that that will be possible without inopportune
expenditure of time. But may be there are some possibilities to allow several
actions on the document during the save process?

I am pretty sure that we already have issues concerning this problem, but
currently I can't find any except Issue 65823 concerning a similar (but not the
same) problem.

@nekohayo:
May be you should vote for this issue.

This problem seems to occur in writer. It seem to be "random" in terms of the
time at which it occurs however, it appears to occur fairly soon after OO is
opened and I use the mouse or the keyboard combination ALT-F to select a menu
item. I thought I might have been a hardware problem because of what appeared
to be the "sensitivity" of the "freeze" in that when I slowly used the ALT-F to
select File it seemed to quickly freeze whereby the mouse would sill move around
the screen but no keyboard or mouse actions seemed to be acted upon.
CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE did not work either. ALT-TAB did not scroll through the
applications. I had to ssh into the box. Even killing the openoffice process
didn't seem to work. I can't remember what the TOP output was.

hello. I'm trying to solve an OO 2.2 Linux fc6 freeze problem. I'm
using OO 2.2 from openoffice.org site and not the fedora packages since they lag
behind somewhat. When I select a menu item i.e. File OO "freezes" . I can move
the mouse but I get response from any other application and I cannot get
response from other applications on the screen. I have to SSH into the box to
reboot. I've posted at oooforum.org but no solutions. Id
or other ways to debug this mess

 sparcmoz: old AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1600+ @ 1400.109MHz, 256kb cache
sparcmoz: note: if you see that I'm no longer here then OO has
frozen while I'm using it. it used to work perfectly. I'm using this machine

When printing a document, it is not possible to choose
deliberate page sequence in "Pages:" field, e.g. by
putting "1;7;4;2" (prints "1;2;4;7"), nor repeating
pages, e.g. "2;2" (prints only "2").
This functionality is quite useful e.g. when designing
posters in A4, and then directly creating A6 flyers
by printing "1;1;1;1" in 4-up printing mode.

@Pavel: Sorry, I was on a short Easter vacation and couldn't respond earlier.
Yes,
as expected, your cygcheck log looks fine.

Instead of trying to find the problem the hard way, can you try a cygwin
snapshot
(just replace your cygwin1.dll) and see if that
helps?

Hi ..,
Can you explain fruther? I
- start a Writer document,
- add a frame,
- enter the text in the frame (with Enter for example);
then I can set the tabs by clicking on the ruler, or setting the props of the
paragraph(-style).

Or do you mean that you want to change position of the frame with tabs?
That can be done when the anchoring of the frame is set as character (context
menu, right mouse button)

Maybe you mean something else?
Thanks for further explanation,
Cor

I can see two ways to solve this problem. As it seems like some part of
OpenOffice.org copies [C:\Program
Files\OpenOffice.org2\share\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office\Linguistic.xcu]
to [C:\Documents and Settings\\Application
Data\OpenOffice.org2\user\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office] every time
OpenOffice.org is started, the solutions could be one of the following:

1. OpenOffice.org should only copy the file if it doesn't exist in the target
path.

or

2. If a change is made in [C:\Documents and Settings\\Application
Data\OpenOffice.org2\user\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office\Linguistic.xcu],
the changed file should immediately be copied back to [C:\Program
Files\OpenOffice.org2\share\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office\]. If this
solution it the one we chose, then we also have to remember that, during an
OpenOffice.org update, [C:\Program
Files\OpenOffice.org2\share\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office\Linguistic.xcu]
should never be replaced. Only added if it doesn't exist.

At least this is what my experiments lead, but I can be wrong of course.

I don't agree. Admitted, it's not severe, but it is something that went fine
until version 2.1, and for people who expect this "normal" behaviour it might
be quite irritating when they start Draw and don't find the colours any more.
Above, I don't find it quite logical to lay a bug on ice which is absolutely
new! The ones who programmed it, should remember it very well NOW. The longer
you wait the more diificult it might become to find it :)

shouldn't there be a way in Writer to switch it from a frame object to a drawing
object? It shouldn't require the opening of another application.

I do this all the time. I bring in a photo and then use circles and text to
highlight the object but when I move things around they don't move together so I
have to go to Draw to make it work properly. Surely, I can't be the only one
that would want to group these objects together without having to use Draw.

Can't we put a switching feature in Picture properties window under the Type
tab?

I'm leaving this as a Writer problem because I believe that Writer should be a
program that one can use to accomplish what they need to without having to open
another package like Draw.

May be I missed something, but as I understand, these modes are different ways
to orginize presentation while working with it. What I'm proposing is to add to
drawing mode some tool to mark parts of the slide as reading-only. If such tool
is used, Impress should ask on presentation start if author will comment it or
user just reading presentation from archive. In first case, reading-only parts
shouldn't be displayed but remaining text should be increased in size to use
available space.
There is also needed option "just reading version/ just thesis version" option
on saving and exporting presentation. So author will choose if this version is
for conference archive or for presentation computer (when conference ask to
place file on computer which is connected to projector). On exporting and saving
to ppt this "reading only" information will be lost obviously.
It is important to mark some parts of slide's text as reading-only in "normal
mode" to maintain both thesis and reading version as one file, so author will
change title or something and it will be different in both verions.
Sorry if I'm asking for something already available or not describing it clearly
enough with my lousy english.

Correction - patch works just fine on both XP and Win98.

Mathias,
any chance of integrating this patch in 2.2.1?
P.S. Underscore and the like were allowed in NetBIOS names since the very
begining (in 1985 or so) and that was not governed by any standard. So this is
classic case of having to support legacy even if it is not compliant. This is
true for them (they just could not stop supporting strange characters) and us
(now we support this too, after years of loosing customers).

tml,
thank you very much!

There is just one problem with UNC left - OpenOffice running on Win98 (WinMe)
would not open files from XP (Win2000, WS2003), see issue 74820.

I increment a timefield by step of 5 minutes and when the start value as 55
minutes when I increase by 5 minutes the timefield indicates the same hour (not
increased by 1) and 60 minutes. If I continue, the problem diseappears.
For example, there are the results showed by the timefield after 3 increases :
11:55, 11:60, 12:05, 12:10...
This problem doesn't exist if I decrease : 12:05 then 12:00 then 11:55

Writer can handle pictures in two way: as frame object or as drawing object. If
you insert it via Insert > Picture it will become a frame object. You get the
picture tool bar and you can format it with a style out of the group "frames".
When you copy a picture from a Draw document it will be in different kinds in
the clipboard. One of them is the drawing format and it is the default for
inserting. For a drawing object you have no style in the style and formatting
window and you get no picture tool bar, but you can format it via context menu.
And that makes the different in grouping. You can only group drawing object. If
you have inserted a picture as drawing object, you can group it with other
drawing objects in writer too. You only need Draw, to get the picture as drawing
object.

Thanks to kpalagin, it pointed to me the difference with the competitor.
I have kept the line sum, which is not present in it, and added the fact that
the sum is for each columns of a range.

The 'column-wise' version is in the 4th release of the patch.

The problem is in the jvmaccess/util/gcc3_linux_intel.map which we use.
The new symbols for doTranslateToUrls are different from what is built there.
Attaching patch but need to find if this affects any others apart from SPARC.

Developer's Guide Appendix D: UNOIDL Syntax Specification

AMHA this line is incorrect :
constants-decl ::= ["published"] "constants" "{" const-decl+ "}" ";"

The identifier for the contant group is missing. I think the definition should
be :
constants-decl ::= ["published"] "constants" identifier "{" const-decl+ "}" ";"
