[sc-issues] [Issue 77376] Find & Replace with regex fails with "Replace All"
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=77376 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu May 17 02:30:44 + 2007 --- Thanks for having a look. I encountered this problem when trying to restrict a Find & Replace to specific cells using the "Current selection only" option. The sample document does not need to have the cells selected, but my document needed them to be selected. After some testing of the problem, I found that it was triggered even if the "Current selection only" option was not checked. I only reported the minimum necessary conditions, even though this minimal situation would not be chosen under normal use. The workaround for the normal situation is to select the cells, set the "Current selection only" option, but then step through the changes one at a time. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 77320] header or footer NOT in ma rgins as in MS Word
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=77320 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu May 17 02:11:16 + 2007 --- I'm not sure it's so much that I want to change the current behavior as much as I believe that the current behavior isn't as it was originally intended. I can't see why the current implementation would be used considering how most of us writing think of margins and headers/footers. They are to be contained _within_ the margin. The current implementation doesn't work that way at all and is confusing. I'm also reluctant to post this as a documentation issue as I'm not sure that this is a documentation issue as opposed to an implementation issue. Sun needs to decide which is the preferred way to do things first - I'm optimistic that they'll agree with the way that most other word processors do things - and _then_ decide whether or not to call this a bug or enhancement and _then_ decide how to re/write the documentation. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. We have now updated the patches for OpenOffice.org 2.2 (it was a pleasant surprise to see that a number of the patches became invalid because they got fixed!) and I have cleaned up their formatting. I have also split this file to small files by code module and I am going to file them as separate issues now so that they get to where they belong. Thank you for your patience and I hope we can help better OOo. We have also received some very valid and useful comments regarding these patches from Nikolai Pretzell, and we are (the guys at University Szeged are) preparing a new analysis based on the lessons learned. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. And of course I don't complain against a file association repair in the setup. In fact, it's only there. It's common sense nowadays that applications should not require admin rights. And so I think we shouldn't add functions to a program that need admin rights. [installation-issues] [Issue 77257] File Association Manager f or Windows version
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=77257 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed May 16 21:34:28 + 2007 --- Why not? That is a silly statement, anyway - the Multi-User Installer *itself* *requires* Admin Rights... so why is *that* ok, but not to have a related function that also requires it? Besides - if OOo can be installed as an ordinary user, then it can manipulate file associations as that ordinary user in the same way. It does so *now*, doesn't it? This isn't rocket science... it is very simple... OOo allows for installation on a Windows machine in two different modes: Multi-user (requires Admin Rights) or for Single User. If OOo can correctly set the file associations at install time, for each of these two modes, it should be able to MANAGE these changes as well. It should be smart enough to know *how* it was installed (as an Admin, for 'All Users', or as a normal user, only for that user). The FAM should then behave in accordance with how it was installed - meaning: 1. If it was installed by an Admin in Multi-user mode, then it should require Admin rights to manipulate File Associations - just like it requires Admin Rights to install/uninstall it. 2. If it was installed in Single-User mode, then the FAM should behave accordingly (however OOo handles single user installation File Association modifications currently). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. But.. it's also my experience that if the extension is a little bit more complicated ( for example if it contains an uno types db ) then the state of the extension will be disabled after attempting to register the extension. The test case I am attaching is much simpler and doesn't contain any uno types database. [installation-issues] [Issue 77257] File Association Manager f or Windows version
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=77257 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed May 16 19:27:14 + 2007 --- Repair did not work... There is absolutely no reason why OOo should not be able to manage these associations after it is installed. My problem apparently was caused by permissions problems on the registry settings. My argument is, if these can be fixed manually, by changing the permissions, there is no reason that an OOo FAM could not *also* handle permissions problems - again - as long as the User had Full Admin Rights... > When you install OOo on Windows you are usually > doing this for all users. Then the setup application > registers the file associations for all users. Yes - all of which is exactly how the FAM would/should work... > The file association manager in OOo will not be able to > access these settings! Eh? Why not? Oh - re-reading my original post, I didn't make it clear that this functionality would only be available if the user trying to make use of it was logged on with Admin Rights... this is obvious, so I didn't specifically mention it... > Instead of this it will try to set something for the current user. > This will rather screw up things than fix them. Not if they are logged on with Admin Rights - and again, there is no reason that OOo couldn't simply detect this, and display a message (that this functionality requires being logged n as a User with Full Admin Rights) if a User who does not have full Admin Rights tries to access the FAM... > A file association manager inside OOo does not make sense at all and > especially on Vista is a No-No. It makes *perfect* sense, due to its nature (a full Office Suite that has the ability to take over File Associations of another Office Suite) - even in Vista... As I said - I do understand that this ability must be limited to a User who is logged in with Administrative Rights, and that changes affect all users (just as they do at install time). Again, not *one* argument I have ever heard against having a File Associations Manager built into OOo makes any sense to me... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Then the setup application registers the file associations for all users. The file association manager in OOo will not be able to access these settings! Instead of this it will try to set something for the current user. This will rather screw up things than fix them. A file association manager in OOo could make sense as part of the setup as then it could be run with admin rights. In fact the existing "repair" functionality of the setup should do exactly that, of course some other things also what might be unwanted. Did you try "repair"? IMHO that should be enough. "New window" is defined to open a second window to the same instance of the document. This implies that no editing in the first window is in concurrency with the second, they are in sync. Exactly this is violated by having two windows pointing to two different document instances using the same file. Users will most probably damage their files as they will recognize too late that the changes that they made in window 1 are not reflected in window 2. So whatever they will do in window 2 after they closed window 1 (and saved the document) will overwrite what they had done in window 1. This danger is much more serious than the loss of some functionality. So I think we either should let is as it is or we should disable "new window" for documents in a web layout. It will still be enabled for document in print layout. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Most of editors allow you to edit the same file in many windows. Why should it be different with word processors? Let's think I have a document with a lot of pages. I edit simultaneously one page in one window , another page in another window and even more. I am doing in this way in MS Word, Writer, sometime in Abiword. BTW, in Word I can split window if I want to have another view of the document, but in Writer I can only open the new window. What's about possible confusion, it fully relies on user qualification. Even if you cancel the second editable windows you won't protect an user from mistakes. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
