I presume there is a bug with the Undo-Method (though I cannot currently test IF
it is present in the other branches of OOo):

When selecting 'Undo' after OOo performs a table-autoformatting (to remove the
auto-inserted table after a: | | ), Writer (including the cursor) jumps
to the first page.

This does NOT happen with the ordinary Undo's.

I inserted the following HTTP hyperlink containing an embedded username/password
into an OOo Writer document:

http://user:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/private/login-test/

When I click on the hyperlink, I expect OOo to log into the Web site with the
username and password provided in the URL; instead, OOo prompts me for a
username and password. (The same thing happened in OOo Calc, so my best guess
was to file the bug under "ui" rather than any specific application.) When I
paste the URL into Firefox, Firefox goes directly to the page without prompting
for login information.

My résumé mentions a Web application I wrote that requires an HTTP login, and I
wanted someone reading the résumé to be able to enter the application by
clicking a single link without having to enter login information. It would be
great if the "Insert -> Hyperlink" dialog had boxes to type in the username and
password for "Web" links just like for "FTP" ones, but what I care about now is
for an HTTP hyperlink containing a username and password to work seamlessly.

I will try to "crash" the newer version of OO and send crash log. However, after
reading formulae display problem I think this problem is now solved.
Now I remembered that after the crash on OO 2.3 I somehow got into situation
when OO was trying to recover the same document twice (it was listed twice in
the recovery dialog). After it recovered "both" documents it froze (I guess it
was an access conflict).

Please try the newest version of OOo, actual OOo2.3.1 or OOo2.4RC1. There were
problems with displaying formulas, which should be solved now.

If the problem is still there in a newer version, then attach the document that
makes such problems, please.

Does OOo crash, so that you can sent a crash report, or does it freeze?

I had a closer look at the problem. Gnumeric 1.6.3 (Windows) returns the value 0
if the algorithm doesn't converge. That is not correct. Excel returns an error,
if the calculated value is smaller than -1. I don't think we should follow
Excel, because those values are still solutions to the equation, which is given
in the ODFF spec. Gnumeric shows such values.

What I have done:
(1)
Introduce a test for Nper<=0 because ODFF constraints it that way.
(2)
Made a case distinction for Nper integer or not. In ODFF spec it is not yet
decided whether non inter Nper are allowed. If the non integer Nper will be
forbidden, the case can easily be removed. With this distinction, we get
additional values as they are calculated in Gnumeric.
(3)
Catch special case "solution on an extreme".
(4)
Remove setting non zero PayType to 1, because other values than 0 or 1 are
meaningful and can easily be handled. ODFF spec is not precise in that area.

The text includes comments, so that you can enable the statements, if you don't
like to follow my decision concerning PayType or validity of results <-1.

Additional remark to ODFF spec: The given equation is not defined for a solution
RATE=0. But such situations are possible. Changing the equation to a version
with geometric series instead of the version with fraction would solve that
problem and force Nper to be integer.

The patches are based on m244 with CWS odff.

Thanks very much for your Write application (used in Ubuntu). It nearly
satisfies our need for a professional word processor.

Unfortunately, one aspect, Edit/Changes/Record is not functionally
adequate to allow us to convert over from Microsoft Word (even Word '97)
for use in copy-editing documents for consumer publications.

In MSWord, changes can be accepted or rejected by clicking on the change
in the text and making the choice in a "Track Changes Toolbar". The
potential change is seen in the actual document text while the decision
is being made to accept it.

On the other hand, in OpenOffice Writer 2.3, changes can only be
accepted or rejected from a simple consecutive list of all edits. This
list does not show the actual edit copy itself. Only the date of the
edit entry is shown.

In a document with hundreds of changes (like a book or even a detailed
magazine article) it is impossible to find a proposed change by looking
at the list -- one would have to know the dates of each proposed
change.

While it is true that if you select (highlight) one anonymous list
entry, the working document window scrolls to the location of the
selected change, this still means that a user must click blindly in a
long list to gradually narrow down the choices and locate a section of
interest.

In normal editing, the document is the focus, not a list of changes, and
an editor wants to proceed by reading the document and making yes/no
choices as the reading progresses. MSWord allows this simple
functionality. As a change is read, clicking on it allows acceptance or
rejection of that change.

This is a normal intuitive functionality and focus does not have to be
shifted to a list. There is no need to hunt through a numerical dated
list to relate it to the document.

Because not every change in a document is acted upon, and because some
changes are physically located far from preceding ones, it is not
possible to keep the list synchronized (mentally) with the editor's
position in a reading.

An editor may also jump around a document editing a few key sections out
of order. A sequential list of changes naturally cannot be synchronized
with this kind of necessary activity.

In a recent (and to us disheartening) change in the commercial publishing world,
more and more of the print publications we deal with are REQUIRING that
freelancers use Microsoft Word for submitting and editing manuscripts. They no
longer accept .doc documents prepared or edited in another program. Once that
becomes policy at an organization it is extremely difficult to reverse it. We
believe this may be partly due to unfamiliar and problematic "track changes"
(Edit/Changes/Record) experiences at the publication with Open Office Write. All
commercial editing is essentially collaborative, and these particular tools need
to be intuitive and in fact equivalent to the MSWord methodology, or Open Office
will be effectively banned in this industry.

We hope that the otherwise excellent OpenOffice Writer's change tracking
interface can be improved in this one area. It would make OpenOffice
suitable for group editing in a professional publications setting, and
allow us and many others to make the move away from Microsoft products.

Thanks very much for your consideration.

In OOo Database module, in the query design view, if we create more than four
"or" clauses for a field, save the query and then come back, the fifth line will
have disappeared from the view, although still visible in the SQL view and
producing effect.

Here is a simple example showing the problem:
http://pages.videotron.com/marer/line_disappears.odb

If you open the query "a-g" for modification in the design view, you should see
that the "e" is missing; if you switch to SQL mode, you will see that "OR (
"field" = 'e' )" is actually in the query but not showing up in the design view.

Does anyone else have a problem installing dictionaries (with the Wizard) in

Dictionaries installer however once there and on clicking the "Retrieve the

verify that OOo has access to the internet." This works fine in OOo 2.3 on the

@ggs: I do not manage to obtain any hyphenation with your test document, even
if I activate automatic hyphenation in standard style and delete some
characters at the start of lines.

There is a serious bug in OpenOffice Writer (possibly in other tools too) that
causes instant crash of the application. Situation, described below happened to
me twice with (nearly) disastrous results. Description may seem strange but it
happened twice so I think it should be reported.

Versions affected: 2.1, 2.3 (both 100%), possibly all versions from 2.0 up

OS:
 - Slackware Linux v.12 (+ OO 2.3) on Intel dual core
 - Windows XP (+ OO 2.1) on laptop with Intel P3 mobile

Description:
In both cases I was composing document, rich with formulae and pictures. When
the writing process was approaching final phase, document was quite complex in
terms of inserted objects. When doing final corrections I was moving up and down
the document and here Writer crashed twice. Application died immediately
destroying all my work (up to last manual save - I disabled auto saving because
the process was quite slow).
I noticed it can happen only when manually moving the slider with mouse up or
down and (possibly) with mouse cursor outside the slider area when moving.
I suspect that the bug is the object placement/rendering (or whatever it is)
when sliding the document with slider. However, PgUp/Down, cursors and mouse
roller do not cause crash (at least in my case).
I also suspect that it can happen only when there are lots of equations in the
document. I guess it cannot happen with text only document or text+picture
document but I'm not sure.

Regards
Vid

Didn't have time for locale data change including new API and such. The *-IN and
*-BT locales are hard coded in unotools/source/i18n/localedatawrapper.cxx method
LocaleDataWrapper::getDigitGroupingImpl()

However, locale data needs not to be changed, LocaleDataWrapper::getNum() and
the like and number formatter do it right as soon as "use group separator" (aka
thousands) is activated. Parsing a #,##,### number in the number formatter
though does still not work, only grouping in thousands is recognized and leads
to numeric result. I think we can live with that for now.

I have the same problem under Kubuntu 6.06 LTS. There is a workaround : if I
enclose %GAMMA between {} it looks correct.
I do not known if enclosing greek letters between {} is mandatory in
specifications.

@leodp : please, can you try this workaround and tell if it works for you ?

Running an endless presentation on our public area info point,
ooimpress aquires constantly memory ressources from the X11 server until "out of
memory" (including swap) and causing Linux's oom-killer to shut the application
down. Memory akquistion for a 5-slide presenation (without graphics/gimmicks)
with a size of 400 kB is about 1 MB every 5 seconds. Shutting down ooimpress
short before the "out of memory" situation causes Xorg to free all that memory
and running sane from then on. That's reproducible. We could also see that
memory akquisition does not happen at reentering the presentation loop
but also while running one long presentation.

Intensively tested with various system and software versions:
Deiban etch, Debian lenny, Xorg 7.2, Xorg 7.3, OO 2.3.1, OO 2.0.4
to verify also tested with remote X server via DISPLAY=myotherX11host:0
and in OO's server mode as well as on desktop.

Might be a hint to find the bug:
In 2.0.4 (Debian etch's default OO), it was not the Xorg process consuming the
memory, but the soffice.bin process itself with same phenomenology.

Until bug fix we help ourselves presenting PDFs instead of ODPs.

Fehlerbericht

Add color profiles in notes2 and ODF 1.2 that can be dependent of all sorts of
things, metadata.

For example doing a color per date, so notes are visible per date.
(handy for looking what's new)
Another example let each user has it's own color profile (if more than one
person wants to be green or want other users to have a certain color).
Another example letting certain groups of users have the same color.
Making groups of notes based on user-generated metadata about notes.

Easily group notes on a number of other metadata than author and the ones that
I've just mentioned.

While in Impress it is possible to select slides, handouts, notes etc on
printing, it is not possible to make this selection when exporting to PDF.
Also, it is not possible to supress hidden slides from the export (all export

possible with a certain key.

Please make this possible with the mouse because many people know intuitively
how to select something with the mouse (they have done it before) and it's
faster when there are a lot of sections present.(depends on user)

Like the title says make also an place in the context menu that appears when
right-clicking on an trendline with Insert "R² and equation".

When doing something for school, we must always add the equation and the R² to
the graph.
A button to do this fast would come in handy and save time.

(Okay it's two or three seconds but if you count all those seconds of all the
people on the planet who are using OOo, then mankind could be using more than 10
hours more.)

Hi,

just confirmed in "OOo_2.4.0rc1_20080211_Win32Intel_install_en-US"
i am using vista 32 and java 1.6

- install oo
- install "broadcastcomp.uno.zip" extension
- close oo (don't forget to close the quickstart too!)
- open an empty "OpenOffice Calc" document
- you will see the java "event log" window

- choose File -> Wizards -> Presentation...

- choose (*) Empty presentation
- click Next >>

- choose "Subtle Accents"
- choose (*) Overhead sheet
- choose (*) Paper
- click Next >>
- click Create
- oo will crash without a notice and start recovery wizard ...

I will include the zipped folder crashdata

-> aaronforjesus. Thanks for the pointer. I'll have a look to see if the
document format described in the pointed to MIL-STD can be described with the
current OOo development codeline (3.0 codeline).

By the way, what exactly do you mean when in #desc15 above you talk about 'I
need page numbers that might be independent from the Chapter number' ? Do you
mean something like 'Appendix A-2' standing for 'page 2 of appendix A' or
something else?

es, could you, please, return to this problem? I'm using oo 2.3.1 and the only
difference I have is that I do not see *any* images at all now. You can not
reproduce - that's ok, but what should I look at to see the reasons for this
problem? Are there any possibilities to debug this problem on my side?

I've noticed this in impress. Normally I need formulas of font size 24 there.
Now There is nice button save font size in format -> font sizes dialog. If you
save that font everything will work until you close your presentation and open
it another time. In newly opened presentations when you insert new formula that
saved font size will be applied only to some formula elements. For example vec
and horizontal bar in over will be very small. Thank you for fixing this in
advance.
