Originally prepared in LaTeX, the code was converted (mostly) successfully to ODF by tex4ht. After some tweaking (to replace lost formatting), the document was exported to Word format using the save as... dialog and the Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) option. If the resulting file is reopened in OOO, the text appears correctly. If opened in Word, the first instance of the backslash disappears and the second becomes a rectangular box of the kind that means a character is missing from the font. Work in OOO is with version 2.4.0 on Mac OS X 10.4.11 PPC (i.e. the latest stable release for my platform). The copy of Word used is on Windows. I know it is Word 2003 but I'm afraid I don't know which version of Windows. (I was using a neighbour's machine to check my paper before submission as I don't have a copy of Word.) The font used for this part of the text was Times New Roman and the backslash was in the same font. I am going to attach a document containing the relevant paragraph of text. After editing (to replace lost formatting) in OOO, the result was exported to Word using save as with the option Word 97/2000/XP (.doc). This was then opened in Word 2003 to verify the result. In Word, the problem appears as follows: the endnote is placed at the start of the list of references i.e. after the section heading but before the first reference. Originally, the endnote was on a separate page after the last reference. Reopening the exported file in OOO (without changing it in Word) reveals an additional (and more serious) problem: the list of references has lost all its content. That is, the section is still there, but it contains no text. I will try to attach a minimal example though I cannot guarantee its behaviour in Word as I don't own a copy. If necessary, I could send somebody the whole paper, though. This is version 2.4.0 which is the latest stable release for Mac OS X 10.4.11 on PPC. The user then must clear the error dialog by typing ENTER or clicking on the OK button. After this is done the VIEW definition is displayed in SQL view mode.
