I checked on mirror "TU-Braunschweig" and found
"OOo_3.0.0rc1_20080904_Win32Intel_langpack_en-US.exe" in folder

I did not check whether that works for a localized build.

Big Picture:
Most publishers require work to be submitted via RTF so as a writer, a good RTF
export is necessary until the publishing industry uses OO. I use the OO format
until the last stage where I ship the file off to an editor.

The good news is that OOM4 is doing a better job than OO2.6, but I still have to
resort to using MS Office to correct the RTF problems.

Misformating of the first few paragraphs repro steps:
1 In a blank ODT document, Set justification to centered.
2 Type in: Hi
3 Press enter
4 Type in : there
5 Press enter
6 Change justification to left hand.
7 Type in: This is the body.

You should have a document with a centered Hi, and on the next line, a centered
there, and on the next line, it says This is the body.

8 Export as RTF.
9 Examine and note that "there" is justified to the left hand instead of being
centered.

Yes, I knew about frame spacing, as my initial filing stated. (Internal spacing
is not at issue in a formula one letter long.) Try this:
   make body text italic
set formula frame spacing to zero
   make two lines of text
line 1 is one letter of plain text: x
   line 2 is a one-letter formula: x
My complaint: the x's are not aligned vertically. Apparently a formula object
is wider than the bounding box of its content, even with minimum (zero) frame
spacing.

I installed ar, en_GB, zh_TW language packs on ja build.
If you go Tools -> Options -> Language Settings -> Languages, the "Language of
interface" list box lists "Arabic" as "Unknown".

I don't know about en_US build and language pack because I am lazy to install
en_US build and there are no en_US language pack :)

When creating a document using OpenOffice 3 Beta 2 and saving it as a Microsoft
Word 97/2000/XP doc file, any text placed in a table and rotated 90 degrees
(“Format”, “Character”, “Position”, “90 degrees”) is re-formatted to "normal"
when the document is opened in MS Word 2003. Similarly, upon re-opening the
document in OpenOffice 3, the rotation of the text is lost.

limit is 1 MB, while the file is over 2 MB. As two of the three "bugs" are
relational, it would not do to send you a stripped down file. Please advise.

I received a Powerpoint file and opened it with OO. The following changes had
occurred:

1- the original file treated the title slide as page 0. (Subsequent slide
numbers were shown.) OpenOffice would have none of that, changing the first
slide to #1 and moving up all following slide numbers;

2- mid-way, the body of a slide starts with "a) " followed, a few
slides further, with "b)." OpenOffice changed that "b)" to "a)"!!
(The first "a)" is still there, too);

3- on one slide, an indent did not hold.

Don Kelly advises that the first "bug" could be due to conceptual differences
between PP and OO, while the other two "sound like classic import/export bugs."

I'd gladly supply the files but see no way (being a first time user of these
fora) how to send attachments.

'I too guess that it is a font problem.'
You guessed right!
The 'R' and 2nd 'Q' subscripts in the 3rd line were erroneously set in the
(nonexistent) 'arTahoma' font. Reset them to Tahoma (or Arial, or ..), and the
extra space disappears!
Hard-to find problem, as you will agree.
Should OO warn when a inexistent of uninstalled font is used? New issue!

As part of my thesis presentation, I've made a slide with multiple elements
which move using the Move Diagonal Animation Effect. While presenting this slide
using OOo 2.4.1 the elements move fairly fast, in OOo 3 Beta they move slower
and jumpy.

I'm attaching the slide which I mentioned for evaluation.

I could not reproduce the bug on a clean installation of OOo 3.0-RC1. OOo keeps
working normally.
(amy2008: "Inadmissiable value or data type" will only appear if you macro or
JRE settings are not OK).

When saving-as and a filename begins like that of a previously-named file so a
match is found in a drop-down menu, arrowing down to select a name is efficient.
Once that's done, however, the next sensible efficient step is to tab to the
next control in the Save dialog. But tabbing doesn't allow leaving the filename
control, and pressing Enter saves the file without access to the other
decisions. A mouse click is needed to set the location or file type, but mousing
is less efficient than typing shortcuts. So, tabbing should be enabled to get to
other controls in the Save dialog.

The same problem occurred whether the matched filename was edited by deleting
character or not edited at all. A user might match without editing because
intending to change the location.

I'm using OOo Writer 2.4.0 without Java Runtime Environment on Linux Fedora Core
4 with Gnome 2.10.0 desktop on a Pentium 4 laptop.

Thank you.

Had the same issue in the Italian version several times (query IssueZilla). It
is a localization problem, due to wrong syntax in (Japanese) translated strings.
It is language-specific.

I am using Open Office 2.4. I did not recognize the version numbers I was
supposed to select among to tell what version of formula editor I have.

Equation Editor includes some space in a formula object even when frame spacing
of formulas is set to zero left and right. Thus a formula cannot be butted
against text, as one might want to do with the term nth, where n is a variable,
and th is the ordinal suffix. Also a formula at the left margin appears to be
indented slightly. Negative spacing might overcome the problem; unfortunately
negative spacing is taken as zero.

While the answer to the math forum question, "Remove default margin on new
formulae?" does help, the problem would be fully solved only if two formulas,
say x and y, inserted consecutively look like a single formula, xy. Spacing
should be up to the user.

Sorry for asking a question that might be stupid, but I don't code.

Cannot be the conversion to polygon or curve be avoided by keeping text as text
at least in this concrete effect ('word wrap text in shape') and setting
internally different horizontal and vertical scaling of the font? (That would be
actually calculating scaling width and size to the text area.)

Thanks,

Pablo

Using Safari 3.1.2 (5525.20.1) on Mac OS X 10.5.4, Intel

1. I log in, successfully

2. at http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/StartPage I click 'File issue'

3. http://qa.openoffice.org/issue_handling/pre_submission.html

4. I see the site no longer treats me as logged in; where earlier the blue area
at the head of the page read 'Log Out', now the same area reads 'Log In'.

5. At http://qa.openoffice.org/issue_handling/submission_gateway.html I tried
again using my valid user name and password, but the site continued to present
the Log In prompt.

= End result =

I could not file issues.

= Workaround =

Setting aside Safari, I tried Firefox 3.0.1 instead
(and discovered a different issue, 93546).

Hi.

Trying OOo 3 RC1 Linux build I found that Writer uses very small bullets by
default.

I remember that in OOo 2.0 or OOo 2.0.1 bigger bullets (like MS Word uses) have
been introduced as default.

The OOo 3 RC1 default bullets look like the ones of OOo 1.

(If I'm wrong, feel free to close this issue.)

1. Enter a longer text.
2. Mark the text.
3. Insert a new frame (Insert -> Frame).
4. Accept all defaults (just hit "Ok")

This leads to a very long frame / textbox which should be much wider. In my
opinion the default settings of a text frame are wrong.

I am doing these four steps quite often and every single time I need to
readjust the frame. I guess the settings should default to a width which is
about the width of the page minus the margins.

nn,

Attached is a simple patch which deselects selected sheet-tabs if you click on
other than the current sheet-tabs. This patch uses SelectOneTable regardles
bSelectOneTable variable (it removes it).

Seems like a working one. :)

Please review.

Set type to PATCH.

Lets start devising a specification. I will offer a starting point for the
features I feel need to be implemented within this request (but feel free to
express a different opinion):

A.) Insert into Merged Cells
 - A1-D1 is merged
 - we want to insert a column between column B & C

This should be possible.
Columns A & B remain unmodified. Columns C & D get shifted to the right.
Though, what should happen with the merged A1-D1 cell and the newly inserted
newC1 cell?

There are 2 options:
 i.) merge C1-D1 with the newC1 cell
the 2 contents should be appended OR
the old content should be overwritten
ii.) the new cell (newC1) acts as a splitter, i.e.
  A1-D1 gets split into:
A1-B1 and
C1-D1 which gets shifted to D1-E1
the new, unmerged cell gets inserted between A1-B1 and D1-E1

I strongly support both options presented at i.). Because cell A1 would inherit
all the content anyway, I do not see any strong indication for ii.).
[A possible utility arises when more cells are merged, like IF A1:D2,
 then after inserting we have:
A1:B2 and D1:E2 and the unmerged cells C1 and C2.
All the initial content would be in A1:B2,
while C1 & c2 would preserve their own content.]

A dialog should pop up for choosing the appropriate option from point i.), BUT
if the merged cells are empty, then NO dialog is needed.

B.) Delete Merged Cells
Similarly, suppose cells A1-D1 are merged, and we want to delete column B. What
should happen with the cell A1-D1?
 i.) Cell A1-D1 becomes A1-C1
   - content is deleted from this cell
   - content is preserved
ii.) Whole cell A1-D1 is deleted
   - cells E1-... are shifted left
 iii.)A1-D1 is split into:
A1 and
C1:D1 which gets shifted to B1:C1
A1 inherits the content

Again, I do not see a strong case for ii.)-iii.), while option i.) seems
sensible and needs a dialog to ask for the proper action (delete/preserve
content). IF the whole merged cell is selected and deleted, then NO dialog is
needed (and is already working in Calc).

OOo 3.0-RC1 Italian contains dozens of untranslated strings in the Online Help
for Calc, even though it is reported as 100% translated.

Untranslated strings appear in function examples and documentation. It seems
most of them are located in file it/helpcontent2/scalc/01.po in Pootle:
http://www.sunvirtuallab.com:32300/it/helpcontent2/scalc/?

Regression, as the same strings are correctly translated in OOo 2.4.1 Italian.

Specific examples: help pages for "ADESSO, funzione", "DATA, funzione", "VALUTA,
funzione" contain strings in English.

static bitmaps are an obvious evil. All bitmaps must be destroyed before
DeInitVCL; if you really need a static instance, replace it with an empty one
which is probably less problematic.

I use OpenOffice.org Calc 2.4.1 to plot my monthly mortgage. I used to use
Microsoft Excel 2003 until I moved to Ubuntu linux.

I have several graphs that require 2 columns to be plotted against the date.
For example I have one graph that shows the total balance remaining on my
mortgage along with the amount paid off. The amount appears on the Y axis and
the date appears along the X axis. In Excel this works as expected and I see a
large area graph for the total balance and within that area graph is the amount
paid off.
However in OpenOffice.org Calc 2.4.1 the total balance appears correctly (at the
correct positions against the Y axis for amount), but for some reason the amount
paid off appears above it (at totally the wrong position on the Y axis - as
though it is adding the amount paid off to the total balance (which I haven't
told it to do).

As you can imagine this is quite annoying at the moment as I have to switch to
Excel in a VirtualBox window to plot this graph when I would much rather be
using it all in OpenOffice.org.

Many Thanks

James

I checked with "Ooo-dev 3.0.0 Beta Multilingual version German UI WIN XP:
[OOO300m3 (Build9344)]" and can confirm the reported effect. Same result with
"2.4.1 Multilingual version German UI WIN XP: [680m17(Build9310)]".
Object changes width in accordance to relation of column width of old and new
place.
The same effect is visible if you drag and drop (or copy and paste) an object
from a row with bigger height to one with smaller hight.
This might be acceptable (or feature) for non protected size, but not for
objects with size protection.

This issue might be related to Issue 28244

Issue 90677 may be related.

My objective is to make an on-line questionnaire with strategically determined
space for each answer. The questions are to be in frames with content, size
and position all locked. The frame is to be anchored to the page.

Steps to reproduce:
Type
Highlight it and Insert Frame.
Problem 1 - It has moved (OK...) but it is a really ugly size and shape.
Right click, Frame properties -
  Anchor to page
  Wrap to right
  Zero space above and below
  remove borders
Grab and move to where I want it.
Problem 2 - It moves up from where I put it by about Top Margin measurement.
Put it where I want it again - it stays.
I start to type, expecting my text to flow around it.
Problem 3 - The wrap does not return to the left hand margin below the frame.

Using any of the fonts (Semitic Early, Semitic Middle, Semitic Late or Semitic
Modern) from http://www.ancient-hebrew.org the character spacing can be wrong.
Of coarse, one would suspect the fonts, but they display correctly in Word97, so
there does seem to be an issue with OOo Writer.

The issue is more complicated in that these fonts each have a set of glyphs that
are mapped as the normal ASCII alphabet 0041-005A and 0061-007A, and also to the
Unicode (custom area I think) F041-F05A and F061-F07A. As far as I can tell the
font file simply maps the two sets to the same glyphs. When the 00xx mapping set
is used the spacing is correct. When the F0xx map set is used however, the
problem is seen. The character spacing is then incorrect with the characters
either being spaced far apart or jumbled together overlapping each other (or
both).

I wrote a macro to remap the characters up by bitwise oring the characters with
F000 or down by anding with 00ff. The same characters are displayed but they are
spaced incorrectly in the F0xx set. They are displayed correctly in Word97,
although for some unknown reason, when I copy either kind to Word97 they all
come in mapped as the F0xx set. Even if I type "ABC" in Arial and then change
the font to Semitic Early, Word97 changes the mapping up to the F0xx set (could
someone tell me why). At any rate they look correct in Word 97, but then opening
that file in OOo Writer, they are incorrect.

I have a screen shot and the macros if someone wants to see, e-mail me:
harveyab"AT"juno.com. (I don't know how to attach here.)

Jeff Benner at the above web site has an Ancient Hebrew Lexicon on his site in
Word format, that looks quite bad in OOo Writer because of this.

As for my copy delay issue with Writer, I suspect the problem is at least partly
in ReadPlease. If I load ReadPlease before Writer, then the delay is there, but
if I load Writer first then there is no delay. (ReadPlease caused Word79 to
crash - one of my main reasons for getting interested in OOo Writer in the first
place, and I'm glad I did!
