[sw-issues] [Issue 101472] Problems with saving DOC files, tables are corrupted
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=101472 --- Additional comments from atlantis1...@openoffice.org Sat Oct 17 10:01:45 + 2009 --- If you do a search for this issue on the internet there were a lot of VERY unhappy people when version 3.0.1 was released and Openoffice caused tables to be lost when saving in .DOC format. I have to say I was SHOCKED that such a critical error could make it into a stable release. Posts on the internet testify how people lost hours of work trying to rebuild their tables-especially if they had set Openoffice to save in DOC format as default. Mistakes do happen and the developers I know do volunteer their time for which I am very grateful. Openoffice is a great product and I have used it for a number of years. Although I am grateful that 3.1 no longer causes the table data to be lost, from what I can make out from the forum the alignment issue has not been fixed yet. I feel it is CRITICAL that a word processor be able to save table information correctly. MSWORD DOC format is used by businesses that I correspond with and I need information that I send them to be displayed correctly. This is not a P(riority)3 problem this is P1 problem! I cannot update from 3.0.0m9 until this issue is resolved. Problems with Openoffice's ability to handle tables and export them correctly to DOC only emerged in 3.0.1 - versions prior to this exported tables correctly in DOC format. Why has it taken 6 months to resolve an issue - when it has worked previously in earlier releases? I am hoping that this issue can be resolved quickly so I can continue to recommend this software for people looking for a robust Office solution. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sc-issues] [Issue 105986] Provide a way to specify recalculate hints for OOo Basic functions used in spreadsheet formulas
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=105986 Issue #|105986 Summary|Provide a way to specify recalculate hints for OOo Bas |ic functions used in spreadsheet formulas Component|Spreadsheet Version|DEV300m55 Platform|Unknown URL| OS/Version|Linux Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|programming Assigned to|spreadsheet Reported by|smls --- Additional comments from s...@openoffice.org Sat Oct 17 13:52:26 + 2009 --- I have a multi-sheet OOo Calc file in which the first sheet presents a dynamic overview of information gathered from string, date and number data in the other sheets in rather complex ways. Because of certain limitations in the built-in Calc formula functions (most notably, SEARCH() not providing a way to check *whether* the specified string was found (see issue 66590), and LOOKUP() not supporting string keys) I had to write several custom Basic functions to accomplish my task (all in all, over 150 cells in the overview sheet now call at least one of those Basic functions). The trouble is: the whole thing is horribly slow now! Whenever I make *any* change to that overview sheet now - and be it only changing the contents of one single (unrelated) cell, clicking the bold toolbar button with any cell selected, or even only resizing a column - the whole interface locks down for about three (!!) seconds while Calc seems to recalculate all formulas on that sheet (you see a progress bar at the bottom of the window during those three seconds). To remedy this situation, I propose allowing certain recalculate hints to be specified for Basic functions in order to limit the number of occasions on which a function will be re-evaluated when it is used inside a spreadsheet formula. The easiest solution would probably be to allow the hints to be specified as a comment in Basic code right before the function definition - maybe something like this: Rem FunctionRecalculateTriggers cell_contents_only, cells_accessed_on_last_evaluation_only Function MyReallyTimeConsumingCustomLookupFunction(...) ... End Function The recalculate hints would cause the results of this Basic function to be cached for each instance (by that I mean: each cell from which it is called from + parameters given combination) and from then on only recalculated under specific conditions. The recalculate hints I propose are: 1) no_recalculate -- Never recalculate the function instance (once it has been evaluated once) 1) cell_contents_only -- Never recalculate the function instance when no actual cell content has been changed in the spreadsheet (e.g., only formatting or column width changes have occured) 2) cells_accessed_on_last_evaluation_only -- Never recalculate the function instance when none of the cells that were read from during the last evaluation of the function instance have changed There might be other hints that one could add, but for purposes like the complex overview sheet described above, those three recalculate hints would already be totally sufficient. Functions should still be re-evaluated no matter what when the documents is loaded, when [ctrl]+[shift]+F9 is pressed, when their function code has changed or when the parameters passed to them have changed. I'd like to but special emphasis on the proposed cells_accessed_on_last_evaluation_only hint. This is not as arbitrary as it might sound - in fact, I suppose that almost all functions that don't make use of the current time, or outside data, etc. might greatly benefit from it. Think about it... (look at the built in spreadsheet functions to see that this really makes sense for a lot of functions...): For example, image a sheet where A2 holds the number 2 and some cell holds the formula =OFFSET(A1; 0; A2): 1) What parts of the spreadsheet are then read (internally) during the initial evaluation of the formula? - Only the contents of the cells A2 and C1. 2) From then on, can the the outcome of the formula change as long as neither the value of A2 nor the value of C1 changes? - No. Therefore, if OFFSET() were implemented as a (slow) Basic function, the cells_accessed_on_last_evaluation_only recalculate hint would provide vast performance improvements for spreadsheets that use the function in many cells (and it would still make sure that the function *is* reevaluated whenever actually necessary). The same also holds true for all the custom Basic functions involved in my complex dynamic spreadsheet mentioned above... In fact, I guess that being able to set this recalculate hint might actually reduce

This only happens since about September 2009 - before I never had this error (didn't chance the OOo version since then though). Open Office issues a report from the shut down which is too long to enclose in full here, but which I can send by mail if needed. I desperately need to be able to create pdf-files from multi-tab OpenOffice charts - unfortunately I won't work with the pdf-printer function (only creates the tab currently shown). Maybe this behavior is something that can't be changed, but it makes hanging indents or numbering incompatible with border spacing. A possible workaround is to use a frame to provide the border. Although it's a lot more work to manage the frame, the hanging indent does align properly. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [ui-issues] [Issue 105996] Non-intuitive AutoComplet e/AutoFormat

I go to Tools-Options-OO Writer and find nothing about auto-complete/correct until I find through Google that auto correction/replacement options are actually under a tab in the Tools menu item Autocorrect... This is a UI failure. Options belong under Tools - Options. Autocorrect options belong under: Tools - Options - OO Writer - Auto Correction *NOT* Tools - Autocorrect - (Options Tab) After turning off the options I thought were applicable the problem remained until about 10 minutes later I stumble across a post referring to: Tools - Options - OO Writer - Table - Number Recognition and figure, what the hell, might as well turn that off too. Suddenly problem solved, but WTF??! Firstly the word 'False' is not a number, even in the context of programming languages. Secondly, why is this auto-complete/correction option in yet another location?! Please, move these options to the correct place and stop capitalising booleans unless you have a *specific* Capitalise Booleans in Tables option. Frankly, auto-correct is an extremely annoying concept and I'm not convinced having it on by default is sensible. What is correct is highly context-dependent and my experience is that OOo and Word get corrections wrong as about as often as they get them right. This kind of nonsense belongs under Spelling and Grammar where the user is specifically asking to have their choice of grammar reviewed and where such revisions can be better managed. Call the automatic behaviours AutoFormat or AutoCorrect or whatever but don't call it one thing in one place and another thing somewhere else like you have now. I would recommend the term Auto Replacements since it more accurately describes what is going on (ie, there's no guarantee that the conversion is any more correct than what I typed). If you insist on AutoFormat as you type as a feature please provide a single Turn off Auto Replacements tickbox on a combined Auto Replacements options page that disables ALL auto-correct / auto-format options. This should should simply involve moving the menu item Format AutoFormat While Typing: NO to the Options dialog where it belongs. I realise Word probably does things this way but I've never considered Microsoft to be any good at UI design. What's next? OO with ribbon bars and menu options that vanish mysteriously? So in summary: 1.) Decide what you're going to call AutoCorrect/AutoFormat and use it consistently. 2.) Don't enable the feature by default, if you insist on that then at least make it easier to find and disable. 3.) If you're going to have options then put them under Tools - Options 4.) Consider merging the AutoCorrect/AutoFormat functionality with Spelling and Grammar since they are practically identical in concept. 5.) Merge table autoformat/auto-numbering options into the general autoformat options. 6.) True and False are not numbers. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Everything is OK. But I think the default frame style of Formula is ugly, it sets the amount of space between left(right, top, buttom) edge of the formula and text to 0.20cm. It's too wide. So I change them all to 0.00cm. Now, pressing ESC twice will cause the cursor located *before* the just inputted formula. Is it essential to do so or can we modify solenv/inc/libs.mk instead of renaming the library? Conventionally the name of the import libraries are different from the shared target names. I do not know the reason why but it made mingw port simple. Mingw port really does not use the .lib style import libraries and create empty dummy files just for clearing the dependencies. And if the core name of the import libraries are different from the shared target, the linker can safely use dll-direct-linking without troubles. If the core name of the import librbarary is the same as the dll, the empty dummy file will be used for linking and will cause problem. Currently the cws tkr27 is broken on MinGW but it will be safely buildable if we stop renaming ineon.lib at delivery time and set NEON3RDLIB to ineon.lib for Windows MSVC build in solenv/inc/libs.mk. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
