What happens: I create a new database,link it to a spreadsheet, and only the first column of information is transfered over from the spreadsheet to the database. Weird part is that the column names are transfered, just not the data within the columns. How to replicate: So I was messing around for quite some time trying to get it to work, since it had previously worked without a problem, and I was able to reproduce the problem. So I created a new spreadsheet using calc, entered some values with column names and data. Went to make a new database linked to the newly created spreadsheet, and what do you know, it worked!! But after entering a couple of functions here and there, and creating a new database and linking, it broke again. I even undid the functions that caused it to break, that once worked when the document was newly created, and still no go. Ok, so I go ahead and create myself another spreadsheet, tested again with column names and data, linked and it worked. So far so good. Entered functions, everything worked fine. As soon as I entered a SUM() function it broke! Tested again and it always seems to break the linking as soon as SUM() is inputed on the spreadsheet. Even undoing the SUM() will not fix it, you have to create a whole new document. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a new spreadsheet. 2. Label A1-E1 (Label1, Label2, etc) 3. Add random digit values into A2-A5, B2-B5, etc until E2-E5 4. Save Document. 5. Create a new data base (File>new>Database) >select "connect to existing database" >switch to spreadsheet. >Next >Go to the saved spreadsheet we just created >Finish >keep name as untitled >double click on the newly created table (should be 'sheet1' by default) and as you can see, looks exactly like the calc document with all values in place. 6. Now that we tested it works, close database and re open the spreadsheet. 7. Now on A6 - E6, either type in "=SUM(A2:A5)" (without quotations), or select A6-E6 and click weird lookin E next to function wizard (FX) and Function(=) 8. Save the changes made. 9. Follow step #5 except this time title it untitled1 10. When you double click the table it will open just as before, will show you all the column names, and A1-A6 filled out, but B-E will all be blank!! 11. Now say you close the database, reopen the spreadsheet and remove the =SUM() equations ie A6-E6 and delete all values (delete all) when prompted and save the document. When you go back to create a new database (step #5), and title it untitled2, it will still not show all values, even though it previously worked (untitled) Something after adding sum() still gets stored/saved on the spreadsheet somehow and not allow you to transfer the data. It did however, work for me WITH the =SUM() function, the very first time I tried linking the spreadsheet. So you might have to do all the steps TWICE. Current workaround I use: When saving the spreadsheet, File>save as> dBASE link the dBASE on the new database (just make sure u select dBASE and not spreadsheet), and everything will work, even with the =SUM function. A response as to why it is happening, or if it is suppose to be that way, would greatly be appreciated. Tried to give every detail possible but if something is unclear/not enough details please let me know and I'll be glad to help. Using windows xp mce, custome built computer. AMD processor. This problem first occurred about Sept 29, 2010. When I attempt to open an existing ODT document a message box indicates an invalid action with the words, "The requested operation requires elevation" However if I right-click an ODT document & select NEW, User Account Control will prompt me to allow/cancel access to my computer. When I allow access the selected document opens. I have OO.o Writer pinned to Start Menu and the same invalid-action message now occurs when I attempt to open it to create a new document. Similarly, if I right-click on OO.o Writer in Start Menu, select 'Run as administrator' and allow access, voila, a new document pane opens. Yesterday (Sept 30 2010) I stumbled across a service message somewhere indicating the OpenOffice Writer program software had crashed. I deinstalled the software & reinstalled latest version without result. I do have full administrator rights to this laptop.
