The problem can be reproduced on Linux and Windows version.
OOO versions tested 3.1.1 and 3.2.1.
Working in a spreadsheet imported from Ms Excel.
1186 lines of datas, 11 columns.
95% of the lines have a note or comment in the second column.
Using the autofilter on the first column.
When applying the filter, OOO 3.1.1 and 3.2.1 are very slow.
WithOOO 3.0.0, it is very fast.

Steps:

1. Select a cell with a note and copy it.
2. Select another non-empty cell.
3. Do a Paste Special with every checkbox cleared except "Notes".

The contents of the second cell disappear.

I'd like to request a "Save a copy as..." File menu option in addition to the
existing "Save" and "Save as..." options.

This way, you could save another copy in a different format (for instance TXT or
CSV depending on which OOo application is being used) while keeping the current
document open and active in its current format.

Thanks.

The installation was over the older version 3.2 I think. This was the way I've
installed all my versions of OOo.

What is your PATH environment variable?
If I've understood the question correctly it is:
C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3

The original installer file was downloaded to folder on my hard drive and
unpacked to the desktop then installed with no reported problems.

Executing a query on a Thunderbird address book like

SELECT "First Name", "Last Name"
FROM "Personal Address book"
WHERE "Last Name" LIKE 'F%'

doesn't work with OOo 3.3.0 (worked with OOo 3.2.x); Base simply crashes
completely.

(while: WHERE "Last Name" = 'Foo' works as expected)

My Basic script - using a similar query - throws the following error:

An exception occurred
Type: com.sun.star.uno.RuntimeException
Message: [msci_uno bridge error] UNO type of C++ exception unknown:

When printing slides, the new printer dialog ignores the printer margins, so
that objects near the edges of the slide are cut off. The previous version
(3.2) which had the old dialog did not do this.

What|Old value |New value

  OS/Version|All |Windows XP

 Version|OOO 2.0 Beta2 |OOO330m20

--- Additional comments from h...@openoffice.org Fri Jan 28 22:51:28 +

Steps to reproduce in version OOO330m20 (Build 9567):

1. Type "11/11/11 9:11[Enter]" in cell C1.
2. Type "11/11/11[Enter]" in cell C2.
3. Move back to cell C2.
4. Edit cell C2 by typing "[F2] 9:12[Enter]".
5. Move to cell C3 and type "=C2[Enter]".
6. Format cell C3 to show dates and fractions of days.

Step 1 gives "11.11.11 09:15" in the cell and "11.11.2011 09:15:00" in the
Formula Bar. This is the expected behavior in the German localization.

After step 4 the Formula Bar doesn't show hours and minutes, see screen shot.

Steps 5 and 6 verify that the value of cell C2 has fractions of a day.

The error happens regardless whether the checkbox RID_SCPAGE_CALC.BTN_CALC
"Precision as shown"/"Genauigkeit wie angezeigt" is set or not.

This is a bug in writer IMO

ABCD
0123
^

Currently calls GetCharRect for position "0" and position "4". It should be "3".
We're currently placing the cursor *after* the final character. We really need
to place it *before* the final character and get the bounding box of the last
char to union it with the first char's bounding box. It works out ok for western
text, but you get a far different value for CTL text.

Sorry this post is almost off topic and "spamish", but in the end I think it
deserved to land here before I leave OOo for now.

Dear Lutz Hoeger (responsible product manager),

I was unable to find single response in this thread from you, to stand out and
validate your decision. Or eventually to admit mistake or something. (if you
did, sorry, I can't find you in this mess of posts and advices with quick fixes)

In case you really never bothered to write anything here, you are total coward
for me (that's the better part), and from factual point of view you are
something I already wrote here (but will not repeat it, because some people take
it as pure offense, while I was meaning it more literally as a fact) (that's the
worse part).

Anyway, I have also seen some positive voices who do appreciate the change. This
is beyond my understanding, but I'm glad at least some people did like it.

Anyway, I did uninstall OOo, install LibreOffice, and guess what, ODF documents
have colored icons. XLS took me another few clicks of mouse to set up. Rest of
OOo macros and settings were automatically adopted. So far smooth ride.

@cyborg1024:
About LibreOffice developers ... I didn't do any huge research, but I'm afraid
you have fell to be victim of PR scam. According to my quick look on the things
I would say Novell moved go-OOo team out into wild to make it look more
independent (AFAIK they are still paying their salaries), and renamed to whole
thing to LibreOffice plus made that PR stuff around to make it look like OOo
devs from Oracle did run away (which is probably true in particular individual
cases, but that's it, no team exodus). Anyway, if I'm right, then I have to say
"well done Novell", because they certainly got lot of media exposure and
support, much more then before with their go patches.
Disclaimer: this information is based on very poor research, so I may be still
as wrong as you were. :D But it makes lot of sense to me.

Anyway, I'm far from happy, because the SUN is gone, and whatever my feelings
toward it and OOo project were (i.e. not ideal), it has been tremendous effort
and amount of work. Yes, I do object a lot about how OOo is written, but in the
end it's the best office suite for my needs (tried KOffice which looks to be
written much more to my taste in terms of source code, and guess what, totally
unusable for my usage scenarios).

So I have to thank SUN sincerely for such a great tool. And I really hope Oracle
will continue to support it at least enough to make it survive. Thank you
beforehand for that. Good luck with those efforts, I will be appreciate your

The option Tools > Options... > OpenOffice.org Calc > View > Display:formulas
has no effect. Results still displayed instead of formulas.
It's a regression from 3.2.1

Thanks

I would certainly benefit from a way to turn of AA no the slide sorter and slide
pane.

I have a modern system running the proprietary nvidia drivers and the sorter and
pane are unusable for drag and drop.

If I turn off AA altogether, my slides look like crap.

Who do you think you are bothering with that flooding ?

If you don't want to receive anything else by that list, just change the "email
settings" in "your prefs" at the top of the page of the issue ; but please, just
stop flooding us : as writen before, none of us is part of Oracle ; we just are
(or were) users of OOo, as you are ; so, I dont think anyone of us has to be
blamed about this.

Don't do as Oracle did with a part of the community about the icons : before
acting, try to think, just a little bit.

> You do not want to have your styles overwritten in the presentation you paste
> into by the styles that you used in the pasted slide
This is true.
There are other ways to paste a slide so that it looks correct, however. These
are a few possibilities:

1) copy the style but with a unique name.
2) copy the traits of each object without assigning it a style.
3) warn the user that the styles won't be copied

I think 3 should be the absolute minimum since a normal user would think this
was a bug, instead of a design decision.

Option 2 makes it at least usable.
If I can't copy slides from one presentation to another then the tool is
useless.

Option 1 may be the best option since it will work and cause the least grief to
the user!

On that note, is there a way for a user to copy styles from one presentation to
another?

> Please check why a fresh, empty doc has already set its default linestyle to
> invisble. This is not standard.

A fresh doc does not yeild an invisible default linestyle...
what is pasted is not usable, however. See the attached pictures to get an
idea.
Imagine pasting 50 slides.

[graphics-issues] [Issue 116678] Flowchart arrows do not render when kde4 theme view changed

I installed OO 3.3 but was unable to test it as the theme does not change with
the selected KDE4 theme. Probably need an interface to KDE to make that work. I
reinstalled the OO 3.2.1 from my repository to retest the theme behavior. It
seems that all that needs to be done to make the arrows disappear from the
connectors on a flowchart is to change the `view background` and `view text` in
the theme customizer without having to select a different theme other than the
default. For some reason, many combinations of colors will make the arrows
disappear. This should be easy to replicate if you have a KDE4 installation.
Make
sure to restart the document during a theme change or the theme will not take.

I see there's already good reasoning in this direction in #103815.
Please raise the priority of this issue, as this is a real world problem.

I've read through #78897 and I don't agree with the findings there. "Not our
problem" is not a proper way to address real world problems. /tmp getting full
is a
real scenario, despite what those specifications say. And relying on a flawed
specs
is a bug by itself. It's OOo writer that is loosing user's data, not some spec
for
some theoretical OS. And as I've said before, user's data are holy and you
should do
everything in your power to keep them safe.

If your code really must go through /tmp to create&check lock files and to save
existing documents, there's a temp dir in the profile. What's that for anyway?

Also there are issues througout the issue tracker related to out of disk space
condition going as far back as I could search. The fact that they still pop up
shows
there's some ignorance and negligence going on regarding this problem and I
find this
unacceptable for a product such as Open Office.

The PPT file I had sent to document the issue has been saved by OpenOffice.org,
as I had cut the presentation to send you just the two slides where the problem
ocurred.

In the original PPT file the problem does not exist on Powerpoint 2007, and
exists on OpenOffice.org 3.3. So, I am sending a new attachment, with the real
original PPT file.

The problem exists on slides 39 and 41.

I have also changed the subcomponent to open-import

[sw-issues] [Issue 63383] callouts copy icorrectly from Draw to Writer

The SdrObjCustomShape::GetInteractionHandles() fixes the shape interaction for
first and third point (the callout type in testcase is mso_sptBorderCallout2,
'i' is point number):

case mso_sptBorderCallout2 :// 3
{
if ( !i )
nMode |= CUSTOMSHAPE_HANDLE_RESIZE_FIXED |
CUSTOMSHAPE_HANDLE_CREATE_FIXED;
else if ( i == 2 )
nMode |= CUSTOMSHAPE_HANDLE_RESIZE_ABSOLUTE_X |
CUSTOMSHAPE_HANDLE_RESIZE_ABSOLUTE_Y | CUSTOMSHAPE_HANDLE_MOVE_SHAPE;
}

Obviously this is made intentionally for other reasons I don't know of, so
fixing the problem report requires some serious consideration, maybe redesign
in how to handle callout points. I think, being complete noob in OO
development, I won't be able to propose any safe solution, but at least I could
deliver some analysis...

nemeth->tl: Thanks for the information. Maybe it is simplier to add a patch
like
in the case of the hyphenator, so I attach one for the ooo/hunspell module. The
hunspell/hunspell-1.3.patch seems big, but it mostly contains 15 thousand
Hangul
syllables for the command line tokenization of Hunspell. This code size changes
doesn't effect of the run-time memory usage.

nemeth->rene: when SF.net restores its services, we can fix it in the CVS and
with a new release.

[sw-issues] [Issue 63383] callouts copy icorrectly from Draw to Writer

The whole WW8 component seems to concern importing Word objects, so sorry for
wrong lead.

What I noticed, when draw object group gets pasted into writer, it gets resized
(source units MAP_100TH_MM, destination units MAP_TWIP, result in resize factor
72/127). Now get back to draw, select both object in draw and resize it to be
around 2 times smaller. You get exactly the same picture as what you get in
write after paste! So I would conclude the issue is either bug, or intended
[mis?]feature, in draw. Somehow the first point of callout is immune to group
resize (and the last scales not well). If somebody has just slapped the
forehead (ou, it's not a bug, it's a feature), please share your knowledge :)

I should have stated the majority of the developers, anyways as I said anyone
can do their research on the Web and make a choice. If Oracle doesnt want to
listen to their customers or makes very poor choices about design then
personally I dont see a reason to support their version of the product. Being
open source anyone can spin off but the article I read said the core development
team of this product is now designing Libre office. Thats good enough for me.
I dont expect perfect emulation of MS products, I personally use both though and
have had very few problems going between MS Office 2007 and Open Office / now
Libre Office. I have seen some issues with mail merge between the newer version
and bringing that source data to open office but again for free you really cant
complain. I do alot of system builds and support, I think Oracle needs to pay
attention to their community or else techs like me will be recommending the more
user friendly products available. Shouldnt have to hack a product to make it
functional is the bottom line. If you have more detail on the exact break down,
please post it as Im sure everyone is interested in having that info. I have
spent enough time on this and have made a choice to go with the product I see as
doing more for the community. That may change if the current Open Office
changes in response to customer demand. Everyone is free to make their own
educated choice in this matter.

It is NOT that simple, cyborg! Be careful on what you post!
LibreOffice is a fork, developed by The Document Foundation, which DOESN'T
include all the former OOo developers. The MS XML support isn't perfect, and
itìs the same deactivated in OOo code for that reason. LibO inherits the efforts
of Go-oo, so it's parallel to OOo, but not "the new" OOo. LibO and OOo share
most of sourcecode.

Hey All, I just read a couple articles that explained a few important things.
It looks like Libra Office is the "real" open office. The developers that had
designed open office had a legal disagreement with Oracle, Oracle now owns the
name open office. So effectively that means anyone who has supported open
office all this time needs to switch to Libre office, they also have better
support for the MS XML formats and Powerpoint from what I read. You can Google
all the details about this but the bottom line is Libre office is the "new" open
office, only the name has changed due to a legal snafu. Got to love it, anyways
you have a choice and its pretty clear to me which product is going to get the
most support from the community in the end. Oracle was one of the biggest
contributes to the original project but it looks like everyone has taken
separate paths. New name same great product.

A question to developers; why aren't you participating in this Q&A? We are
asking questions and giving opinions, and are obviously getting frustrated with
the lack of feedback from your end. Why won't you respond?

For anyone that wants to manually change the icons, you can download file type
manager which works on most versions of Windows including Windows 7. Im also
checking out Libre office which a couple posters mentioned and will compare. It
looks like they are virtually the same product. The developers can do whatever
the like with their product but I think it would be wise to listen to their
customer base. Without an easy way to distinguish between icons its looses too
much functionality. I have way too many documents to look through a sea of
notepad style icons. Would go blind! Anyways Im using the icon's from the old
version now with Open Office, but it would still be nice to have the main
launcher also appear with those. It may be off to Libre office for me as well.
For years I have recommended Open Office to those who didnt want to pay high MS
prices nor needed too. Just my 2 cents, as long as I have a working product it
really doesn't matter to me what its called. Open Source code rocks. Thanks!

@tommy27

Obviuously I can see that the developers have failed to fix this issue, the fact
that OOo 3.3 has been released despite this issue still being outstanding shows
this pretty clearly.

Where do you suggest I need to raise this issue in order for it to be heard?

This is supposed to be the official channel for raising issues to be heard by
the developers. If this is not the official channel for raising issues then what
is? I will gladly raise this issue through the channel that will get it heard if
you tell me where that channel is.

This issue received 252 (two hundred and fifty two) votes as of today, there
are dozens of comments, but
as far as I can see, no official statement: Yes, we will be working on this
one. The target milestone is still
set to 3.x, which means no decision has been made to work on it. "This issue
tracker system is supposed
to be the official channel for raising issues." Underline the words: "is
supposed to be". "If not through the
official channel for raising issues, where do you suggest I need to raise this
issue?" I’m sorry: I don’t know.
This issue can’t be raised higher. The icons won’t be changed, that’s the
official policy. (I’d be glad to be
convinced by the opposite.)

My environment: Ubuntu 10.10 x64, separate / and /home partitions.

Scenario: working for two weeks on three documents, saving along the way every
few
hours. Getting ready to wrap up, I want to verify some wording against the
fourth
document that I have to open again. Suprisingly, I get "general input/output
error".
I think oh wtf, it's 4am, lets finish this. I try to save each document one
last
time, I get "this document is locked; open readonly, open copy, cancel"
message. I
think wtf again, delete lock files for each, save, quit.

Then I want to tar everything up and send my work to client, I notice that all
three
file sizes are 0.

Instead of pulling my hair out I analyzed what happened. It took me a while ...

Apparently ubuntu updater installed a new kernel image just hours before I
finished
my work, filling up all available space on the / partition (hitting the
reserved 5%
so non-root users could not write to /tmp anymore, but updater running as root
figured it still has enough space to do its job). OOo writer then couldn't
create new
temporary files in /tmp, so opening of fourth document failed with most useless
error
msg imaginable.
I'm not familiar with internals of OOo, but file locking code also seems to
fail
when /tmp is full. When I deleted lock files, its lock check succeeded, but
apparently all files go through /tmp first without checking for any returned
erros
and are then happily written to their proper place. Therefore all I got was
empty
files.

At no point in the process OOo writer hinted at being short on disk space. This
is
absolutely unforgivable.

All this time /home had over 50GB disk space available.

Folks, it's little things like this that make OOo a laughable product when
compared
to "serious" office suite. Please audit all your code and verify that you
properly
handle all possible errors returned from file io calls and then make sure that
you
properly present them to the user so the user can figure out how to solve the
problem. Remember, user's data are holy and you must do everything in your
power not
to lose them. As things stand now, this is not the case.

CSV export dialog: Please add a new check box: 'Quote all text cells' directly
below the 'Text delimiter' drop down.
Please add an indent for this check box, because this option is related to the
option above and change the dialog
titel to 'Export Text File'.

If checked, the CSV export quotes text of a cell, regardless if it contains any
delimiter characters. In OOo 3.3 this
was the default. If unchecked (default for 3.4), text is only quoted if
necessary.

When importing CSV files in Calc, the 'Quoted field as text' option is used to
set the 'Quote all text cells' on saving
the file, because no CSV export dialog is shown on saving. If user wants to set
any other option, she is required to
call 'Save as...' and use the export options dialog.

The filter navigator should open, I'd say, but in fact the list box should
reflect the current filter - i.e. "none", i.e. it should not show a selection.

Confirming, grabbing, targeting, adding "regression" keyword.

MRU->OD: see attached odt. On page two, there is a lonesome cowboy...eh...table
row, separated from the rest of the table on page three. Problem can
temporarily be workarounded by deleting a row and undoing this step. But then
when e.g. splitting the first row back into 6 cells, the problem re-occurs.

MRU->john_ha: please keep descriptions SHORT - an issue will become extremely
confusing by such long texts.

ucbhelper::Content::queryCreatableContentsInfo appears to be relatively new, so
it looks like a OOo 3.3 soffice.bin tries to access an ucbhelper4MSC.dll from an
old version.

@bookmobiler: How exactly did you install OOo 3.3? Did you have an older
version of OOo installed? What is your PATH environment variable?
