I tested the file (see first attachment) with the actual german version 3.3.0
(OOO330m20(B:9567)) of OOo. I could not reproduce the bug with OOo 3.3.0. But
once, writer crashed when moving a picture over the text borders (I did send the
automatic crash report).

P.S.: The enhancement, mru mentioned, seems to be implemented. Or?

I've tried 5_times to upload my video. First as AVI. Four times as zip-file (35
MB) without success and without any error messages. Has anybody an idea, what's
wrong?

Hello,

first a note to mru:
---
I have testet now with StarOffice 7, SO 8 PP12, OOo 3.2.0 OOO330m12(Build 9483)
and OOo 3.3.0 RC7 (see above) and RC9 (OOO330m19 Build 9561; downloaded today,
12.1., from TU-Braunschweig), all running under Win 7 Pro x64.

The behaviour you described is not quite correct for the real software. All the
above versions behave identically.

If the mouse is draged to the ruler (2) or horiz. scrollbar (3), the text
scrolls slowly (stop and go), if the mouse is draged to the formatting bar (1)
or the status bar (4) the text scrolls quickly.

But only OOO330m17 and m19 show the bug(?), I described above.
---

I now have made a video with CamStudio (open source, see camstudio.org; thanks
to Alexander Fritz for the tip) and uploaded it as attachment. Used is
OOO330m19B9561. The video shows one of many tests with similar results. You can
play it with the CamStudio player, VLC player or other... (I used CamStudio
player and VLC and prefer CamStudio for this purpose.)

1.
The first trial in the video shows a new bug(?) not seen in OOO330m17. I try to
drag down the picture Fehler beim Speichern... on page 3 of 5, the mouse
pointer (the cross) disappears and then turns into the normal mouse pointer
select/Auswahl as f.e. is shown on the windows desktop, but with a frame
attached. (I clicked once and hold the left mouse button down all the time.)

If I moved _this_ mouse in other tests (not shown in this video), the attached
picture could be moved _in_ the whole text. Moving to a bar is forbidden
(perhaps this conforms to the design, mru mentions; no further tests).

2.
After releasing I click anew on the picture and drag it down by moving the mouse
on the status bar. After reaching the right place, I move the mouse pointer
back in the text, but the text scrolls on. Dropping, click or double click in
the text do not stop scrolling. (With the other versions, scrolling stops
imediately after moving the mouse in the text).

3.
After that, I undo the changes and start draging to the formating bar. Now
draging back in the text stops scrolling. (All following trials show the same.)

Normaly I have the writer window (nearly) maximized to the height of 1200 pixels
minus height of the task bar (resolution 1920x1200; never full screen). I have a
(very weak) impression, that lowering the height of the writer window (less
than, say 1000 pix in my case) lowers the number of bug occurences.

One other remark. I don't think, it makes a difference, but nobody knows... SIW
shows the following hardware:

I have a motherboard Asus M2N-E with AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor
3800+ (CPU Code Name Windsor), 4 GB of memory (Supertalent and Hyundai
Electronics; a little bit risky as I experience sometimes), a Radeon X600
Graphics Adapter with MS WDDM-driver, resolution 1920 x 1200 32-bit-colour.

SIW shows the following about Windows (some, as I think, technical irrelevant
items deleted):

Center

The bug also exists in OOO310m11 and OOO310m18 (OOo 3.1.1 RC1).

If you repeat the steps, folders Unbenannt, Unbenannt1, Unbenannt11 etc. are
created after a warning, that Unbekannt already exists.

There is a bug in OOo 3 (tested under Win XP Pro SP3) when changing the view
layout:

If you change per click in the status bar from single page to book mode or
column view (2 pages), the following happens (details i.e. page numbers by
Stefan Weigel):

Single side pages shown after switching to book/Column mode

Cursor in page 1 pages 1, 2
Cursor in page 2 pages 2, 3
Cursor in page 3 pages 4, 5
Cursor in page 4 pages 6, 7
Cursor in page 5 pages 8, 9
Cursor in page 4 pages 6, 7
...
Cursor in page 25 pages 48, 49

and vice versa.

Also:

If you open a second window with the same document, the view is changed in both
windows. This also seams to be a bug.

To understand it correctly:

It is intended to change the outline numbering. (OK.)

The behaviour, that the headings disappear in navigator and in the table of

There seems to be a bug the numbering of headings in OOo300m9 under XP Pro with
all patches.

1.
Enter three paragraphs:

Heading 1
Heading 2 (just to have another level)
standard text

2.
Look at Tools, Outline numbering, for level 1 and 2 there are linked the
paragraph styles Heading 1 and Heading 2.

In Navigator are shown Headings 1 and 2.

3.
Modify both paragraph styles Heading 1 and 2 by selecting Numbering Style
Numbering 1.

The paragraphs Heading 1 and Heading 2 seem to be correctly numbered. But in
the dialog Tools, Outline numbering there are no longer linked paragraph
styles for level 1 and 2, only (none) is shown.

In Navigator the paragraphs Heading 1 and Heading 2 (just to have another
level) are vanished, only empty paragraphs are shown.

Also in Insert, Index and Tables, Index and Tables, Table of Contents, Outline
shows for level 1 and 2 only (none).

4.
Undo and likewise setting Numbering Style of both paragraph styles Heading 1
and 2 to none deletes the numbers in the heading paragraphs, but in the dialog
Tools, Outline numbering for level 1 and 2 (none) is shown and no correct
Table of Content can be made.

There is a bug in Calc, writing dBase files. Open the dBase file liz-db.dbf (see
attachment) in Calc and try File, Save as with a new file name. (It's the same
with File, Save, but that destroys the file.)

You finally get the error message Error saving document liz-db: There couldt
not be established a connection to this file. (A little bit more exact in
German: Fehler beim Speichern der Datei liz-db: Es konnte keine Verbindung zu
der Datei hergestellt werden. (s. Attachment 2).

As André Schnabel mentioned in his mail of 26 Sep 2008 21:29:23 +0200 in

But when I save as ods, open the ods file again and try to save it as a dBase

With SPSS 16 and OOO300RC1 everything seems to be OK.

(I don't have SPSS 17 yet, but as the output format of 17 will be the same as in

Example (use attached file for verification):

The text has the following structure:

text
Überschrift Kapitel 1 Ebene 1
Überschrift Kapitel 1 Ebene 2
Paragraph A
Überschrift Kapitel 1 Ebene 2
Paragraph B
Überschrift Kapitel 1 Ebene 3
Paragraph C

Überschrift Kapitel 2 Ebene 1
Überschrift Kapitel 2 Ebene 2
Paragraph D
Überschrift Kapitel 2 Ebene 2
Paragraph E
/text

Überschrift == Heading
Kapitel == Chapter
Ebene   == Level

If you show in navigator only headings of level 1, select
Überschrift Kapitel 2 Ebene 2 and move this chapter up (Kapitel hoch), then
chapter 2 is only moved above/atop of Überschrift Kapitel 1 Ebene 3 and not
above Überschrift Kapitel 1 Ebene 1.

It's the same behaviour in SO 8 PP11 (and I think in OOo 2.4.1).

So the actual versions of OOo/SO and the coming OOo 3.0.0 can destroy your text.
(I found the bug working on a text with 100 pages and only per chance I saw,
that my text was disarranged. Fortunately I had a not too old backup...)

Sorry, I made a mistake with copypaste. You then see in navigator

Überschrift Kapitel 1 Ebene 1
Überschrift Kapitel 2 Ebene 1

And when in navigator I move Überschrift Kapitel 2 Ebene 1 up, in the text
chapter 2 is only moved above Überschrift Kapitel 1 Ebene 3 (Win XP Pro SP 3
and all patches) and not above Überschrift Kapitel 1 Ebene 1.

In navigator, you can move chapters by selecting the heading and then in
content view (german Inhaltsansicht umschalten) by clicking on Chapter up
(german Kapitel hoch) or Chapter down (Kapitel hinunter). The false
behaving of OOo 300 RC1 (under XP Pro SP 3 with all patches) depends on the
level of shown heading levels (german Angezeigte Überschriftenebenen).

If you choose in navigator only one level (only headings 1), then OOo 3 RC1
behaves false, if you select in navigator as many levels as you used in the
text, everything ist OK.

In the attached example open navigator select in navigator shown level 1,
select Überschrift Kapitel 2 Ebene 1, click on Chapter up (german Kapitel
hoch). Error! Undo everything.

Then select in navigator shown level 3, again select Überschrift Kapitel 2
Ebene 1, click on Chapter up (german Kapitel hoch). Everything is OK.

[sc-issues] [Issue 80463] Change Excel import-/expor t filters to correct wrong dates 1.1.1900 - 2 9.2.1900

Hi,

that's your decision and I think it's not OK.

There are two cases:

1.
Now Excel shows a correct date (f.e. 28.2.1900) and calculates wrong (f.e.
1.3.1900 minus 28.2.1900 = 2).
Calc shows wrong dates and calculates like Excel (that is: calculates wrong,
compared with the original intent of the user, but the user thinks it is because
Calc can not read the date correctly).

2:
If you correct the error by changing the filter:
Excel shows correct dates and calculates wrong.
Calc shows correct dates and calculates correct (at least in the cases
mentioned above), but shows other values than Excel does. (That can be explained
(in a message or in help...) very easily.)

So: I beleive, that showing wrong dates is much more worse for Calc than showing
different values.

If you import an Excel spreadsheet with dates btween 1.1.1900 and 1.3.1900, f.e.
20.1.1900, this date is imported in Calc as 19.1.1900 due to the bug in Excel,
that 1900 is a leap year (has the day 29.2.1900).

When importing it should be easy to convert these dates to the right value in
Calc and reconverting it to the Excel value, when exporting to Excel.

In both cases with OOo 2.2.1 (Win XP Pro with all patches) also Heading 1
disappears in the navigator and is no longer assigned to outline level 1.

Win XP Pro with all patches, SO 8 PP7, OOo 2.2.0 and OOo 2.2.1:

I once build a document template report.ott with headings 1, 2 and 3 and a
little bit of text out of a document (file, document template, save).

In this template, the navigator only shows headings 1, but not headings 2 or 3.
(I do not remember, if the original document, which is deleted) also showed
this behaviour.)

Now, if I write a new document with headings 1, 2 and 3, all headings are shown
in the navigator.

If then the paragraph and page styles are loaded out of report.ott by
overwriting the old ones, in the navigator _all_ headings disappear.

For testing: Open the attached file headings.odt. Navigator shows all the
headings.

After loading the styles out of report.ott, all headings are gone.

In Writer the shortcuts Ctrl+UpArrow/DownArrow now again move paragraphs up and
down as do Ctrl+Alt+Arrows.

As in Word Ctrl+Up-/DownArrow only moves the cursor up or down one paragraph,
old word users can destroy their text documents, if they do not recognize this
feature.

Change the behaviour of Ctrl+Up-/DownArray in Writer to move only the cursor,
not the paragraph.

Hi Matthias,

ok, it'll be like the engeneering community has decided. (Apparently we can't
change anything.)
But perhaps there is a way to have a documentation of changes from one minor
release to the next for the user community (not only the specs which are
accomplished in a process of several minor releases). As far as I know, there is
nothing of that kind.

Hi Matthias,

I didn't get any e-mail on this topic after my contribution therefore I answer
so late.

I'm writing the 4th edition of my manual StarOffice OpenOffice.org and I
shouldt have to check EACH diolog to see if anything in the options has changed.
If I overlook any change, the readers can think, that the book writer is
incompetent OR that the developers are chaotic. You can not demand that
thousands of books are thrown away because you try to simplify the UI.

On the other side, if I describe all the new options, users of a little older
version will likewise be frustrated.

It is absolutely contra productiv to do like you do.

Please preserve reliable and credible look and behaviour of OOo/SO. As I said:
You can change options (if you describe them in a special readme). But if you
change the dialogs and options with every minor upgrade (2.0.2 - 2.0.3 -
2.0.4) you discourage your friends. Don't do that! (In OOo 3 there can be
changes.)

Günter Marxen

P.S.: I know, that the US are THE market. But the Windows 95 friends (you
remember?) are MS users and will most probably never become OOo users.

The error exists in SO 8 PP3 rev 2 (689m7 Build 9044) with graphics made with
SPSS 14 german. See attached doc (rtf) file. (Don't mind the clipping of the
graphic. This seems to be an error in SPSS 14.)

I can't believe, how chaotic options in OOo are inserted and removed.
There was a long discussion on this topic. Writer is a text processing tool, not
a text reading tool.

Please preserve the check box Editing View! You can change the default, but it
is an affront to old users, to remove the check box.

Win XP Pro with latest patches, OOo 2.0 680m5(Build 9011) and SO 8.0 PP3rev2
680m7(Build 9044).

I have a writer document (letter) where I use 2 page styles: Standard and
Seite2ff.

Standard has as follow up Standard. If I try to change the follow up style to
Seite2ff and click OK, then SO crashes, OOo is OK.

So SO 8 is unusable.

Strong, negative vote for this issue!

Everything against this feature is said:

- file, page is inconsistant;

- changed UI in MS Off. 2007;

- totally different concept in handling page formatting (f.e. header
  and footer);

- totally different concept in page numbering in multiple sections,
  f.e. first section i, ii... second section 1, 2, 3...

Therefore file, page is not really a help for beginners.

In my user trainings for writer since more than 6 years nobody was unable to
find format, page.

Suggestion: Something like getting started in the writer help as described in
issue 66443.

I know, that it works like this. It is NOT necessary, to overwrite tabs in the
paragraph style by means of the TOC dialog.

So, regard it as an enhancement request to remove this feature.

In the tool bar Table Data there is a Button [Mail Merge...], that
calls the Mail Merge Wizzard.

If you click on [Add...] you can add (for documents) a button named
[Mail Merge] (without ..., but same icon).

You can link the functionality of direct mail merge (without wizzard)
to this button as it is already done with the button [Mail Merge], you
can have in the standard tool bar.

When restoring the old function, please let it be possible to use the
marked records in Table Data.

Filters work, but you have to mark the records once again in the
Mail Merge dialog. The option Marked Records (or so) is inactiv in
SO 8 PP2.

In a paragraph with several soft paragraph breaks (Shift+Enter) I fill in a
tab stop at the beginning of a paragraph (before the - sign, see example file).

tab- Umgang mit dem WWW und Email ... (Shift+Enter)

then I jump before (Shift+Enter) and press Enter to fill in a new paragraph.
By doing this, the tab is deleted:

Win XP, OOo 1.1.5 and 2.0.1 RC4:

When inserting a table of content, the entries are formatted with the styles
contents 1,2...

If you change the style f.e. Contents 1, Tabs, Fill characters None, nothing
happens. If you assign the style anew, then the fill characters disappear, but
come back, when you update the table.

Only if you change the tab in Insert index/table, Entries, the change is
permanent.

This is a severe break in the concept of styles and formatting.

Under Windows case sensitivity for file names is not given, only OOo 2.0.1 base
requires this. (In SO 7 and 8.00, dbf and DBF are equivalent.) Allthough the
online help states this unnormality, it must be considered a bug.

As OOo aims to normal users, it should behave like other Windows applications!

The bug is not completely fixed.

If the frame in Writer (OOo 2.0.1 RC3 englisch version under Win2K) is selected,
the cursor jumps to the beginning of the first page:

Insert, Frame, OK, then imediately click on the undo-button: jump to first
page.

Insert, Frame, OK, click in the text (deselecting the frame), then click on
the undo-button, cursor stays where he shouldt to stay.

I reproduced the bug with OOo 2.0.1 RC2 under Win XP Pro SP2 and all Patches.

I did not wait 5 minutes for an answer by OOo, but the bug is 100%
reproducable.

... Software should support the work of the user. I, as user experience
engineer, have to consider all styles of working with OOo. And that includes
authors and users sharing documents. ...

I think, mmp is wrong with his opinion about the old feature. It is extremely
helpful for authors.

Writer is a word processor (text processor) to write (long) text documents,
not to read them. Normal users read texts when they are printed (or exported to
pdf). It is a good behaviour, not to distribute documents, which can contain
macros or other active content.

Software should support the work of the user and absolutely most work with
writer is to write documents! And this is best done with the old feature!

I work with Writer, FrameMaker and Word and I prefer Writer because of this
old feature, which the other software does not have.

Please restore it!

A newer version of SPSS produces a table with borders (instead of border text
made of SPSS markers). The table is handled correctly.

Often there are special fonts coming with special software.

If you move text formatted with such a font onto another computer without this
font, there can be formatting problems.

Therfore allow embedding of (true type) fonts in a document like Word does.

SPSS is a widely used statistical package. It can produce rtf output und uses a
special font SPSS Marker Set.

If you import such a rtf output (s. example.rtf) in StarWriter 7.0 PP4 under Win
2000 Pro, it is

- not presented correctly on the screen (1280 x 1024 pixel), see
  example-in-Writer.gif,

- not printed correctly with Writer on Adobe Acrobat Distiller 6.0, see
  example-Writer-Distiller.pdf,

- not exported completely correct as pdf, see example-WriterPdfExport.pdf.

If this Writer file is printed on a postscript printer (Minolta Magicolor 3100),
it is printed absolutely correct.
In Word, everything is ok: screen presentation, print on Distiller and on
Minolta Magicolor.

The fonts used in example.rtf are Courier New and SPSS Marker Set, both with
fixed width, formatted with 8 pt. The option use printer metrics has no
influence. It seems to be a defect in calculating the width of items.
