I only tested it on my linux machine but since I can no longer recreate it, you can probably change the status to resolved. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 48142] crash when saving new word processor document

I reduced the steps to: Open OpenOffice Writer. Click on Page in the Format menu. In the header tab, turn the header on. Click OK to close the dialog. In the header, type tab tab 'P' 'a' 'g' 'e' space In the insert menu, open the fields submenu and click on page number Type ':' In the insert menu, open the fields submenu and click on page count Type space Click into the body of the document. Start typing words, I make sentences. Somewhere on the second or third line, the header usually disappears. Saving at this point will cause the program to crash. When gentoo adds an ebuild for the new version, I will install it and confirm that I am still having a problem in linux, where I do all my office work. I tried making my own ebuild but I get a problem where openoffice can't find two files that are in the directory with the program that is looking for them. You can save to a file that is on the hard drive as long as you are overwriting it. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I was just listing my font because it is not the default font and I did not know if it would make a difference. I wouldn't think so but as you said, it is a complex piece of software. As I said, I've had the crash on two different gentoo machines. Both kept up to date with software and installed for the x86 platform. Could it be an openoffice incompatability with a newer version of a linux library? No, it is not a linix specific problem. I just tested it on a windows 2000 machine and it crashed there as well. You can ignore the font because the windows machine used new times roman. I think it has to be something with the header. Start typing and if you see it disappear, try saving the document. I literally do everything just as I wrote in the steps. I'm not sure why you can't reproduce the problem. Are you starting with a new document, is there no document of the same name to where you are saving? Do you compile it yourself? Could it be a problem with the snapshot builds? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 48142] crash when saving new word processor document
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=48142 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon May 2 06:00:08 -0700 2005 --- I installed open office 1.9.95 another computer I use. It is also a gentoo linux machine, a custom built AMD athlon 64 FX box running in a 32-bit environment. Following those steps I posted, I formatted the document but only typed three lines of text. I stopped because the header information disappeared so I tried to save and it crashed. On a side note, I use the Utopia font if that could possibly make a difference. I have set is as default in both open office installs. I tried the [save as] of a current document but it did not crash or lose header information when information was added. As I said in my first post, it only happens with new documents that have no file on the hard drive. Modifying even the blank document that gets created in the crash doesn't lead to another crash. Because of this, I don't think I can provide you with a document one or two steps before the crash. If there is still a misunderstanding about the setup of the file, I could post an example but I don't believe the example could be used to see the crash. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I'm not sure how to send such a document because it crashes when I try to make one. Here are the steps I do when making a new document; Open OpenOffice using the command openoffice-1.9. In the File Menu, New subcategory, click on text document. In the Format Menu, click Page Click to the Page tab. Change all four Margins to 1.00 (I use Letter paper format which is default on my machine) Click on Header tab. Click header on. Change Spacing field to 0.10 Click on More button, this brings up the borders/background Add a bottom border, I usually make it 0.50 pt but sometimes I use 0.05 pt (I change nothing else so it is a black color) Click OK to close Border/Background Click OK to close Page Style: Default Click into the heading part of the document Type the tab keyboard key twice Type Page: then the spacebar In the Insert Menu, Fields submenu, click Page Number Type ':' In the Insert Menu, Fields submenu, click Page Count (I sometimes add a space afterwards just to move it away from the edge) Click down to the main body of the document In the Format Menu, click Paragraph (Indents Spacing comes up by default) Change First Line field to 0.30. (This probably can be any value because I have had the crash happen with a 0.50 and a 0.23 value) Click the choice box under Line spacing and select Double. Click OK button to close the Paragraph Type one page of text with a few paragraphs. (The first few crashes I used actual writing but since then I make a few lines of words then copy and paste it down to a little past the one page mark.) (I have noticed that sometimes the information in the header disappears) In the File menu, click save OR click the disk icon on the toolbar. Give the file a name then click the save button. (I usually save to /home/Docs/project name but it also crashes when trying to save to /home/user name ) I am not on my computer right now. I will test to see if it crashes when I do a [save as] with an existing document taken through the above steps. If that is the case then I will attach such a file. I hope I have clarified the steps I take that lead to this crash. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 47364] New - Lost functionality from OpenOffice 1
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=47364 Issue #:|47364 Summary:|Lost functionality from OpenOffice 1 Component:|Word processor Version:|current Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|All Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|FEATURE Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|open-import Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|becunning --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Apr 13 06:06:11 -0700 2005 --- OpenOffice 1 would remember where I was in a document and would position the document so it returned to being centered in the window rather than making me scroll. I understand that you have decided to make writer documents open on page 1 at least that is what the help says. I would be grateful if you could add an option so it would open documents to where they were. I use writer on documents that are hundreds of pages long and having to scroll down to where I was last working, which isn't always the end, is time consuming. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
