[sw-issues] [Issue 80307] Nested frame without borde r overlays border

One of the frames is aligned exactly to the border of the parent frame. The parent frame has a border; the child frame does not. However, the border of the parent frame is not drawn in the area where the child frame overlays it. This happens even if I set the frame to wrap in the background and cause text to wrap through it. This seems to be a bug; there is nothing in the frame that should prevent the underlying border being drawn... and it prevents the layout I want to use. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If the frame is large, and the document zoomed in, this can be difficult (it may require scrolling the document. It is possible to deselect the frame by pressing Escape. However it seems to be a waste of usable clicking space to prevent clicking on objects inside the frame. The most common operation required after a frame is selected is to right click and adjust some properties. Actually left-clicking on the selected frame does nothing. So it should be possible to allow left clicking to select other objects within the frame, but make right-clicking show the frame properties dialog - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 80306] Allow frames to contain in ternal margins without requiring borders
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=80306 Issue #|80306 Summary|Allow frames to contain internal margins without requi |ring borders Component|Word processor Version|OOo 2.2 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|formatting Assigned to|mru Reported by|davidfraser --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Aug 3 06:34:45 + 2007 --- A text frame in a document can have a Spacing to contents specified in the Borders tab of its properties dialog Currently, if any or all of the outside borders (top, left, right bottom) are turned off, the corresponding spacing section is disabled and no spacing is done. However, spacing can be useful within a text frame as a means of designing layout, even if there is no visible border. It would presumably be fairly easy to simply leave the spacing box enabled and apply the spacing, even when a border is not being drawn. For example, a text frame can be used to center text vertically within another frame. Being able to additionally specify internal margins within the frame would enable more intelligent placement within that frame. These techniques are commonly used in HTML layout in order to produce a flexible layout that allows parent objects to be resized and the child objects inside them to still be positioned sensibly - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. An invisible pseudo monitor is associated with this device. For example, NetMeeting uses it. Note that GetSystemMetrics(SM_MONITORS) only accounts for visible display monitors. The other flag which could be of use in some way is less clear: DISPLAY_DEVICE_ATTACHED_TO_DESKTOP The device is part of the desktop. http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/gdi/devcons_6ynm.asp?frame=true Since we are enumerating monitors using GetSystemMetrics(SM_MONITORS) already this seems fairly clear It's great to see this moving forward. So the full solution in my mind would be to: 1) look up with EnumDisplayMonitors as is currently being done, but use MONITORINFOEX instead of MONITORINFO 2) for each device string from Enum, look up the Device information using EnumDisplayDevices 3) Either don't include devices that are marked as MIRROR devices (preferential), or bump them to the bottom of the list - they're not actually display devices (as you can see in MSDN if you search for the description) 4) Include the DeviceString in brackets after the Monitor number to help identify the graphics adapter Does that make sense? This is running on my laptop. If I start OOo with no external monitor attached, the Multiple monitors section of the Slide Show Settings dialog is disabled as expected, indicating that the number of monitors detected is 1. If I start OOo with an external monitor attached, and configured to extend my Windows desktop onto it, the Multiple monitors section is enabled, and shows the following choices: - Monitor 1 (primary) - Monitor 2 - Monitor 3 - All monitors Monitor 1 and Monitor 2 both select the laptop display and Monitor 3 selects the external display. I have confirmed that the Windows GetSystemMetrics(SM_CMONITORS) returns 1 with no external display, and 2 with an external display, by calling it using the Python win32 API. My suspicion was that the resolution is somehow being used to calculate the number of displays - my laptop display (primary) has resolution 1280x800 and the external display 1024x768. However testing with a variety of different resolutions for each display made no difference. I tried to look at the code in salframe.cxx but it seems the actual number of monitors is not calculated there (it just uses it to detect whether there is more than one monitor) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. A few points of feedback: 1) Connecting a secondary display requires a restart Although I can connect a second monitor dynamically on Windows, I have to restart OpenOffice.org (including the QuickStarter) before the multiple monitors section of the options become enabled. This should not be necessary... 2) The monitors enumerated are incorrect. I have a primary and secondary display as can be seen through the Windows Control Panel Display dialog. But I get the following listed: - Monitor 1 (primary) - Monitor 2 - Monitor 3 - All monitors Monitor 2 seems to be exactly the same as Monitor 1, and I have to select Monitor 3 in order to get this to work. That specification on controlling presentations is really good. As you will know from the bug above, we started working on some specifications for the simple multiple screen support and also the more complex part of a presentation controller (which I agree should go into a different bug) in the wiki. Unfortunately (IMHO) the new specification template system doesn't allow for the same kind of easy collaboration in building specifications, but you may want to glance through the specifications already written to see if there is anything you can take for them for the simple multiple screen support: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Impress_simple_multiple_display_specification Really looking forward to having this feature implemented, thanks for taking it on - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Please avoid this, all the information is publicly available here and on the wiki. It just takes time I could spend coding... But it has been nice to hear that people are interested :-) So for clarity: There is no binary version of the preliminary work I've done available, and I won't make one available until the simple multiple display options are properly implemented. So lets first migrate ImpressMultiDisplaySpecification from the old wiki to the new one. It would be nice to also migrate SpecificationGuide and SpecificationTemplate (which was renamed to SpecificationVorlage and then deleted, but it you go to SpecificationVorlage and click on Show Changes you can see the last version). Note that the new wiki is using MediaWiki whereas the old one was MoinMoin so there will probably need to be syntax changes. Add a pointer to the old wiki for each page and vice versa for good measure :-) Once all thats done, ImpressMultiDisplaySpecification could be split into ImpressSelectDisplaySpecification and ImpressControllerDisplaySpecification - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I propose that implementation should be split into two parts: 1) Enable a simple selection of the target display in the options, that puts the presentation onto that display when fullscreen, but doesn't implement any special controls from the main window ('presentation mode') 2) Enable a presentation mode that would provide better control over the presentation from the main window. 2) is likely to be much more work than 1), and 1) would be very useful for lots of people and make OpenOffice.org at least an option for presenting presentations. The patch I attached should always use a second monitor for displaying fullscreen presentations if one is available on Windows, and fall back to the primary monitor it there is only one. Work to do: - find a way to communicate the desired display. This would probably involve changes to the vcl API. It seems like it would be a good idea to be able to enumerate the available displays in VCL, and have a way of specifying one on the pFrame object. - clean up / revive the patch I had for user interface to select the display, and make it use the VCL enumerator - implement a similar patch to VCL for other Operating Systems Is anyone from the VCL team able to comment on the strategy or at least the API? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. IT DOES NOT. It was only a first stab at adding options to the slideshow settings dialog, so it really can't help you for the mean time. The specification is nearing completion at http://www.ooowiki.de/ImpressMultiDisplaySpecification so anyone is welcome to help out with that. Once the specification is complete it will need to be implemented in code. Thanks to all who have been helping out with this... In the mean time, there's not much to be done unless you can code and produce patches based on the specification. This won't go into OOo 2.0 but hopefully we can get it soon afterwards, depending on developer's schedules. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [framework-issues] [Issue 54417] After installing a langua ge pack, bring up the Tools/Options dialog to change UI language
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=54417 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Sep 14 02:42:48 -0700 2005 --- The main reason this is an issue is for smaller language groups where the language is not supported by the OS or they are running the OS in a different language. The current situation is quite tricky for the average user in a single-user context. So we need a way to make it easier. Maybe rather than the Tools dialog we could have a specially designed dialog that comes up and says A new UI language for OpenOffice.org is available. Would you like to switch your language? In addition, this could appear only if they have not selected a language (it is set to default). This may still not be ideal for multi-user installations though. But lets work towards finding a good solution. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [paveljanik] what should be chosen if you install rpm -Uvh *rpm in the directory with cs and sk language packs? [davidfraser] yes, it would be hard to guess! but maybe the first time you start up OOo after installing a new language pack we could have a dialog to switch language if desired [paveljanik] it would be interesting to analyse the expected behaviour from users point of view... [Christof] dialog asking for language would be good [paveljanik] after installing new language pack? Ie. opening Tools// dialog would be enough? [davidfraser] me and dwayne's wives are sitting here testing - they definitely found it confusing on Windows that after instaling a new language pack it was still english, you had to find that dialog to change it... [Christof] yes, after installing new langpack. I think, opening the dialog should be enough, the language choice is somewhat hidden deep in preferences [paveljanik] I think it could be in the same please the dialog asking for registration is tested/shown. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [l10n-issues] [Issue 50987] Complete support for Sout h African languages
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=50987 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Jun 27 12:26:40 -0700 2005 --- Liz, my understanding below: Sesotho sa Leboa is Northern Sotho. This was originally a government pseudo-fabrication that covers several languages, the official variety of which is a dialect called Sipedi. Sesotho is Sotho or Southern Sotho. Siswati is also called Swazi in English but hardly ever Swati. Swazi is the Zulu word for Swati (which the English name of the country Swaziland comes from - hence the name of the country in English is Kingdom of Swaziland but in Siswati is Umbuso weSwatini). Whether or not to include the prefix is a matter of variation (to the degree that Language in South Africa, a definitive textbook on languages in South Africa, has a section debating whether to use them or not). In most official government documents they are included. My experience in day-to-day speech is that I think the general rule is that the single syllable prefixes beginning with S are adopted more commonly than the others... Xhosa is commonly used without the Prefix Zulu is commonly used without the Prefix Tsonga is used more often than Xitsonga Venda is used more often than tshiVenda Ndebele is used more often than isiNdebele Siswati / Swazi are both used Sesotho / Sotho are both used Tswana / Setswana are both used However speakers of these languages may be more likely to use the name with the prefix when speaking English. I think Dwayne can probably make the best call as to what to do here... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I disabled reading it from the options as that crashes the system (not sure how to add it as a new attribute properly). But very glad you are wanting to work on it! In the mean time I've started a wiki page to put together a specification here: http://www.ooowiki.de/ImpressMultiDisplaySpec Hopefully those that aren't programmers could help with writing the spec following the link that thb gave. The options idea seems good so that should of course be included in the spec. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. A fair amount of this could be done by copying text from this issue. If you haven't used a wiki before, its an easy way to edit stuff over the web - just give it a go! If you want to see this bug fixed, this is a nice way to help, the more technical details can be filled in later by those who know how... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [l10n-issues] [Issue 50179] Tswana, Xhosa, Zulu language entries
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=50179 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Jun 9 05:25:11 -0700 2005 --- Tswana is spoken in both South Africa and Botswana. It is the national language of Botswana, and one of the nine official languages of South Africa. There are about 1 million speakers in Botswana and over 3 million in South Africa. As far as I am aware, there is no significant difference between the language in the two countries - I am not sure of what the policy is to do in this case. If you need a regional code then it should have both _BW and _ZA, but where we can do without one that should be fine. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [installation-issues] [Issue 4729] Provide installation set for Windows as self-extracting .exe or .msi
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=4729 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Apr 20 02:07:39 -0700 2005 --- I think the point is not that the setup.exe is not needed for some people (with old Windows Installer versions etc). The point is that some people know they have Windows Installer installed, and it would be simpler to give those people a single msi rather than requiring them to download a zipfile, unzip it, and then run the installer. I'm also pretty sure that WISE and InstallShield allow you to include the instmsi files in a single executable with the msi bundled into it, so presumably this could be possible here as well (using NSIS or suchlike). From what I recall the setup.exe reads the Windows locale to decide which language to launch the installer in. Is that correct? Is there no native Windows Installer support for determining the correct language? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It seems like setup.exe and setup.ini are just used to launch the msi installation anyway.
