This has been an open issue for quite sometime now. Can someone please advise
when this might be resolved as it is still a problem even in OOo 3.0.

mru,

Your reason for closing this issue is contradictory. From your comments, you
would rather use a different page style from the working document where the
cursor is located, instead of the page style applied in the 'to-be-inserted'
document. This is almost guaranteeing that it will 'mess' with the page layout,
which is your reason for not applying the page style.

Also, if the page style doesn't exist in the working document inserting a
document adds it, so why not also apply it? A page style with the same name is
more likely not to 'mess' with the layout, then one which has a totally
different name, surely.

Please re-open this issue as it is a defect.

The AutoText paths set by an extension don't appear to be reloading properly
until after OOo is restarted. As a result of this the AutoText(s) still display
in the dialog after an extension is removed, or if re-installed/updated you get
a double up until OOo is restarted.

For example,

 1. Install the following extension from
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/autotext_emoticons

 2. Install the extension again

 3. open the autotext dialog and you'll see duplicates of Emoticons
 4. restart OOo and the duplicate is gone.

Using OOo 3.0 on OS X:

If you take an .odt with bulleted lists, save as .doc then open in OOo the
bullet characters are invalid.

Note: This does not fault on Windows using OOo 3.0.

hbrinkm,

I hope you realize that this problem also affects being able to import Word
documents that contain citations where EndNote has being used; As wells as any
others that use XML in Word fields.

I'd put this in as a separate issue but it looks like is be the same problem
i.e. fields from Word containing XML are stripped.

How can this be marked as fixed when clearly it is not?

It appears that OOo isn't escaping xml in fields, instead it ignores the data,
is this the problem?

What issues have been logged that relate to this is? This is the only one I have
found which is clear about the problem.

I can confirm on behalf of the reporter that there is still a problem when
exporting to PDF. If you look at the 'less than or equal to' symbol you can see
it is squished.

I tested using the dev snap shot for 2.4 build OOH680_m2 on WinXP.

If you need me to attach the result let me know.

Daniel.

mav, I don't think that 49751 is quite the same problem.

As stated before manually importing the document fails for 2.0 and now works for
2.1 which is what 49751 is about. However, when using uno it still fails for
both. As requested I will log this as a new issue with more details on how we
are using uno.

I since discovered that OOo 2.1 works fine for the manual import on the large
file it's 2.0 that has a problem.

2.1 still has a problem if you use uno to import.

I have discovered that if you import a document is approx 70 pages that contains
multiple MathType equations on each page you get the same MathType error (too
many windows open). If you copy and paste the content instead this isn't a
problem. So it maybe the importer as well.

I am using OOo 2.1 and MathType 5.2

I am not able to attach a sample document for copyright reasons.

To clarify my previous comment, I meant to say if you manually add a large
document it also fails so it may not be uno. But uno fails on small docs when
manually it doesn't.

cn: The sample document contains macros because it has a specific style menu
that we added for the project I am working on. Note that I have also tested this
with Word documents (no macros) and it doesn't make a difference the MathType
still fails.

I am not 100% sure if this is a OOo fault or MathType issue but when you use uno
to automate importing multiple documents containing MathType 5 it fails and the
objects are broken.

If you have MathType installed you also get a MathType error along the lines of
Too many windows open. If you don't have MathType 5 installed OOo will import
the documents but the objects are then broken.

It appears that OOo is not closing the MathTpe windows down after it uses then.

Thanks fme for your response.

According to the posting on GullFOSS the new table model is to support rowspans,
and if you look at
http://eis.services.openoffice.org/EIS2/cws.ShowCWS?Id=4460Path=SRC680%2Fswnewtable
it is to be fixed in 2.3.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but if this is the case why hasn't this issue
been marked for the 2.3 release?

I agree there are many issues being marked as duplicates of this one, and they
aren't quite exactly the same problem. This issue really needs to be resolved
for the next release instead of putting it off for so long (over 2 years).

There doesn't need to be a new table model just implement tables as per the
open document spec. I have posted about this at
http://danieldebyl.blogspot.com/2007/01/ooo-doesnt-support-spanning-table-rows.html

The problem: If you merge a row OOo doesn't use the the
@table:number-rows-spanned on the cell as specified in the Open Document spec
instead it changes the table to contain nested tables. If you only merge columns
then it uses the @table:number-columns-spanned as per the spec. Because of this
the HTML is actually technically correct as the xml of the OOo doc contains
nested tables. However, the borders in the HTML will never line up as they do in
the document which is the problem.

NB: I am posting to this issue as the one I created was marked as a duplicate of
this one, see #60238

No action appears to have occurred on this for almost a year. This is a real
problem is if you merge rows and want to create the HTML of the document. Can
someone please advise on the status of this.

pjanik,

In response to you last comment as I don't think my point has been understood.

if you use specific python, you can also compile specific uno extension.

Sure this can be done in isolated situation but you don't want to have general
users compiling uno just because they use a different python. What happens with
Mac update their python/

Hmm, we can't support all versions. Distributing python doesn't make sense,
because:

You don't have to support all versions just the one required for OOo.

 - people do already have it on their systems

Users will have the wrong one if they upgrade, and what if Mac release the OS
with the new version? You will have to always distribute a copy of OOo every
time the OS changes to match the version of python.

 - not all people want to use it

You are only distributing the python-core with OOo not installing it on their
system just as with Windows and Linux OS's.

So the default is to use system python.

 Special cases need special treatment

I am not sure what you mean by this but either way by my understanding if you
rely on the native python then not only those who wish to automate OOo are
affected but those who use python macros will dependent on the version of python
installed.

Distributing OOo with python means you are not dependent on the native version
installed and don't have to updated all the builds when the MAC OS python is
updated.

Can this be put down for discussion somewhere and see what others think?

sparcmoz,

Thanks for that however, it only works if you are using python2.3 which is not
very future safe (see below for the result) as I am using python 2.4.3 by
default and, it relies on the DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH being set, which is not by
default.

It would be best and easiest I would expect to go back to the way it was and
include the required python with OOo as with versions 2.0-. What do you think?

Unable to load the uno module when trying to automate OOo. The Windows and Linux
versions come with python however if you refer to issue 70763
(http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=70763) the OSX version is
meant to use the native version of python. However, when you try to import uno
from within the OOo program directory it fails. This is a major problem for
anyone wishing to automate OOo on the Mac, which I do.

For example:

cd /Applications/OpenOffice.org 2.1.app/Contents/MacOS/program
python

 import uno
Traceback (most recent call last):
File stdin, line 1, in ?
  File uno.py, line 37, in ?
import pyuno
SystemError: dynamic module not initialized properly

 import pyuno
Traceback (most recent call last):
File stdin, line 1, in ?
SystemError: dynamic module not initialized properly

On Windows or Linux in the program directory you can load the uno module by
running:
python.sh
 import uno

If there is another way you are meant to load the uno modules please advise.

pjanik: The python-core and python.sh etc was with OOo 2.0 and earlier versions
but not since.

Python also comes with the Windows and Linux versions of OOo so why is the Mac
version different?

This is a real problem for the project I am working on ICE (ice.usq.edu.au) as
we automate OOo using the UNO libraries and we can't use the latest version
because python is missing.

If the Mac OOo is using the native version of Python what happens if there is a
conflict between versions of Python? This would also mean users that have
written OOo python macros would also have to ensure they have the correct Python
installed.

Ignore my previous comment as copying the python folders doesn't work as you
can't import the time module and probably others.

python is missing from 2.0.2, 2.0.3 and also 2.0.4 build for OSX which and thus
missing from the NeoOffice versions built on them.

This is confirmed by:

cd /Applications/OpenOffice 2.0/Contents/MacOS/program
./python.sh (doesn't exist)

I also would like to refer to issue 55534 which states it is fixed and is a non
Mac specific issue however, it was either not fixed or is back and has been for
a few versions now.

In versions of OOo prior to 2.0.3 you could set multiple template paths via
Tools... Options... OpenOffice.org... Paths, this option no longer exists. The
Help built into OOo still references this feature under Template Management
but not under the Paths section.

Surely this has been reported before? I did have a look but no reference to this
issue. Or has the feature simply moved?

Yes, using Words custom properties would be very useful and even if they are not
the fact that the data is lost is very bad for interoptability.

I would like to suggest that this issue is changed to be a defect and give it an
actual target milestone as it is still a problem in 2.x

Daniel.

When a Word document is opened in OOo the names associated with the different
outline numbering are lost or changed to names like WWW8###. If the names where
to remain this would improve interoptibility.

When OOo opens a Word document it doesn't set the outline numbering correctly in
text:outline-level-style/ campared to what is used in the Word document. It
appears to use the default numbering instead.

This is evident in the styles.xml file, for example, an OOo document with the
outline numbering set to start at 2 with the number prefix on the first level
Module looks something like:

text:outline-style
text:outline-level-style text:level=1 style:num-prefix=Module
style:num-suffix= - style:num-format=1 text:start-value=2/
text:outline-level-style text:level=2 style:num-suffix=
style:num-format=1
text:display-levels=2/
text:outline-level-style text:level=3 style:num-suffix=
style:num-format=1
text:display-levels=3/
..etc

A Word document with the same type of outline numbering used OOo sets it as
default, for example:

text:outline-style
text:outline-level-style text:level=1 style:num-suffix=
style:num-format=1/
text:outline-level-style text:level=2 style:num-suffix=
style:num-format=1
text:display-levels=2/
text:outline-level-style text:level=3 style:num-suffix=
style:num-format=1
text:display-levels=3/
...etc

Title properties in Word document larger than 64 chars are cut off when opened
in OOo writer. However, the limit of a .odt title property is greater than 64
chars.

It appears the import filter for .docs may have a limit for title properties.

The output from writer documents containing tables with vertical merged cells
saved as xhtml contains TD elements with rowspan attributes. However, if a
document is exported to xhtml you get the surrounding cells nested inside a
table (tables nested inside tables). The formatting problems are to an extent
resolved by the CSS generated but this is not ideal and a bit of a hack.

The xsl to transform tables need to be updated to handle vertical merged cells
correctly eg use rowspans and don't nest tables within tables
