On Fedora 11, the proper workaround seems to be to install the package
lucene-contrib.

The original data comes from WordNet. It lists nouns first, then verbs. The
first noun is Lashkar-e-Taiba:

http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=letsub=Search+WordNeto2=o0=1o7=o5=o1=1o6=o4=o3=h=

The conversion from WordNet to OOo is done automatically with a script
(http://www.danielnaber.de/wn2ooo/). Feel free to change it.

mux2005, my software LanguageTool is also a victim of this bug. Could

you describe your classloader workaround in more detail? The code that worked
for OOo 2.2 is this:

InputStream is = this.getClass().getResourceAsStream(/de/rules/grammar.xml)

i.e. /de/rules/grammar.xml is a file in the JAR and I have to load it this

way because I don't know where my extension is installed. With OOo 2.3 I get
back null. I now tried this but it fails:

Class cl = Class.forName(de.danielnaber.languagetool.FakeClass, true, mycl);

is = cl.getResourceAsStream(/de/rules/grammar.xml);

mycl is an instance of the WollMuxClassLoader you suggested to use, but the

InputStream I get back is still always null. Any idea?

tl: this can be tested by installing the German thesaurus
(http://www.openthesaurus.de/download/thes_de_DE_v2.zip) into the
system dir. Searching for Haus should give results. Then install the
attached test thesaurus. Now search should give results now instead of xxx
and zzz.

I'll have a look at the hyphenation again when I have time.

Maybe I know the problem but I just had a short look at the code, no real
debugging: in nthesimp.cxx there's a loop with the comment find the first
thesaurus that matches the locale. However, this loop doesn't stop (no break
statement), so it uses the entry that comes later in the array. User
dictionaries are added first to the array, so the system dictionary, which
comes later, is preferred. The solution would be to add a break once a match
is found.

I installed a new version of an already installed thesaurus using DicOOo.
After restart, the new thesaurus didn't show up, I still see the old one.
I can see in ~/.openoffice.org2/user/wordbook that thes_de_DE_v2.zip has
been downloaded and unpacked and that dictionary.lst has correctly been
modified. I got the thesaurus working only by commenting out this line
from the system-wide dictionary.lst:
THES de DE th_de_DE_v2

Note that this behavior does not occur with the spell dictionaries.

Please update the German (de_DE, de_AT and de_CH whereas de_DE and de_AT are
identical) thesaurus that comes with OOo with this new version:

http://ftp.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/contrib/dictionaries/thes_de_DE_v2.zip

http://ftp.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/contrib/dictionaries/thes_de_CH_v2.zip

The new thesaurus contains a few thousand new words. To test whether the
update worked, search for Hering. The old version will find the synonym
Zeltpflock, the new version will find two meanings: Zeltpflock and Fisch
(Oberbegriff)

Also see
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=63324 for information about
how the thesaurus was originally added.

I suggest the thesaurus should not be included until it has 5000 to 1
words. Putting it on the server is different as you can remind people that it
is just an early version.

Laci: I don't know about the source, it might be needed to check out the old
files from cvs and access them using the API (one file is binary, one is not,
i.e. using the plain text as input for the API accesses).

Using WordNet for a more robust -- I'd call it less precise -- thesaurus
might be feasible, but I'm not sure. If at all, an English native speaker
would need to do that.

My position is: don't talk to people who start making Nazi references in a bug
tracking system. I did not make a single comment on the issue itself but only
about your style of disussion. I'm sorry you didn't notice that. This was my
last comment on this issue.

[lingucomponent-issues] [Issue 65039] Legal review: mere aggrega tion of GNU GPL licensed dictionaries (ie. non -code data) into installation sets

Just to summarize two very important points:

1.) Including GPL'd dictionaries should be okay, as these are just lists of
words (i.e. plain text files) which are loaded at runtime. *No* GPL'd code at
all is involved.

2.) Not distributing dictionaries is a *major* usability problem. Having
DicOOo is nice but didn't prevent loads of user questions about how to make
the German spellchecker work (back when it was not distributed yet).

mh: What's the status of this issue? Currently the German dictionary is
included in OOo, but not under the GPL but under a different license which
allows distributing the word lists with software that uses OpenDocument as its
primary format. This license does however not allow modification which
basically makes it impossible to fix errors without the help of wordlist
maintainer. This is not really acceptable.

The file was not listed in available.lst on the main server so the wizard in

I've attached a patch that should make the required changes and assigned this
issue to you. I've not tested the patch, because I have no checkout. The files
themselves are too big to attach, so I've put them here:

http://www.openthesaurus.de/download/ooo/thes_de_DE_v2.zip
http://www.openthesaurus.de/download/ooo/thes_de_CH_v2.zip

Please note that de_DE and de_AT are *exactly* the same, so I'm not sure if we
should have e.g. a README for de_AT. As the files are quite big, de_AT should
not be duplicated (at least not in the files that users download). So maybe a
line like this would be better?: THES de AT th_de_DE_v2, i.e. just linking
AT texts to DE?

I just set the target milestone to 2.0.3, is that okay? This page says April
6th 2006 is the last day for cws integration for features:
http://development.openoffice.org/releases/OpenOffice_org_2_x.html, is that
page still up-to-date? Can the thesaurus still make it into OOo 2.0.3?

Hyphenation according to Duden (22. Auflage):

da-r-an
da-r-in
da-r-ü-ber
hi-n-ü-ber
hi-n-auf
hi-n-un-ter
he-r-an
he-r-auf
he-r-aus

So there's no wrong hyphenation (only missing hyphenation points).

The linked file only contains the de_DE thesaurus, de_CH is also available. It
contains the same words but ß globally replaced with ss. Could that be
done during installation so that we can also offer de_CH without increasing
the download size?

I'm the author of the German thesaurus and I have just changed its license
from GPL to LGPL. I'd like it to be included in OOo 2.0.3.

Here's a recent snapshot:
http://www.openthesaurus.de/download/thes_de_DE_v2-20060317.zip (1,1MB)

Several updates will probably follow and I'm not sure whether it's a good idea
to attach a 1 MB file each time, that's why I refer to an URL.

Let me know if there's something else to be done to get the thesaurus
included.

You can assign parts of the text their language on the character level. Then
that language will be used for spell checking.

I agree, adding the German dictionary would be a huge improvement to
usability. What needs to be done to get that included?

I've changed the component and set the target milestone to 2.0.2, let's see if
we can do that.

I'll attach a new version with these words added:

ni7ve8au7st8a7bi7li7tät.
.ur7in8stinkt
.wach8s8tu7be
.stau8becken
.stau8b7ent7wick7lung

Listing those words avoids the use of some stupid hyphenation points.

pjanik: I think this can become part of 2.0.2, I don't see anything that
speaks against it. Only that someone (TL?) needs to commit it, because I
can't.

I've attached new German hyphenation patterns that have been produced by
nemeth by using substrings.pl. The only change is one line a added at the end
to fix the hyphenation of Tastatur. The new patterns are not perfect but
much, much better than the old ones. As the old one were sometimes incorrect,
I set this issue to DEFECT.

TL: can you committed this for OOo 2.0.2?

trennliste.sxw contains some wrong examples I think: wo-rüber is actually
correct (as is wor-über), so this word should be in the second category
(incomplete hyphenation).

Another thing: Jack-en-ta-sche is still incorrect, but
adding .ja7cken7ta7sche. at the bottom of the patterns also suddenly makes
Jacken not hyphenate anymore. So I cannot add these few special cases to fix
the remaining wrong hyphenations.

I have uploaded a new version of that file, it's now the same as in OOo 2.0.1
(the old one was based on WordNet 2.0, now it's based on WordNet 2.1). I also
added a file with the license. The fact that this file is online at all
doesn't make much sense actually, as it's part of the OOo download anyway...

Question to someone who knows about THIRDPARTYLICENSEREADME.html: is that file
generated? Or does it make sense to attach a patch for that file to this
issue?

What exactly does this mean:

char* pText = 088cde38 , int len = 0x9775198

Does it mean the method was called with an empty string as parameter? And that
len was at memory position 0x9775198? Or is 0x9775198 the *value* of len?

Maybe we should also support the pre-pre reform spelling from 1890? Seriously,
I won't start arguing about the new spelling, but please stop spreading
misinformation that only 10% support it. *Everybody* today learns it at
school, and most newspapers use it. The old spelling will be supported by
OOo, and be it only to avoid bug reports that tell us that the new spelling
sucks.
