Hiragino font family seems to have relatively large vertical spacing attributes. For the difference between Calc and Writer, Writer uses ExtLeading attributes of fonts and Calc doesn't. If you set Tool - Options... - OpenOffice.org Writer - Compatibility - Do not add leading (extra space) between lines of text, Writer won't use the ExtLeading attribute. Here is the way to reproduce the problem 1. Set Hiragana input mode of Kotoeri on OOo Writer. 2. Push '1' key. - This will show 'FULLWIDTH DIGIT ONE' in the preedit with blue color and the under line. 3. Push 'space' key several times to convert the 'FULLWIDTH DIGIT ONE' into ASCII 'DIGIT ONE'. - This will show ASCII 'DIGIT ONE' in the preedit with blue color and the under line. 4. Push 'Return' to commit the 'DIGIT ONE'. - This should commit the 'DIGIT ONE' (expected behavior). - but actually, it will show committed 'DIGIT ONE' plus still showing the uncommitted preedit with blue color and the underline. Also, the internal state of input context mismatch between the input method and OOo. This is because insertText() procedure in salframeview.mm assumes a single ASCII character input is always come from without preedit. However, as shown above, it is also possible to input these character using complex input method. Attached single line patch to check the MarkedText should fix this problem. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It indeed works well with Tiger, however, I've just found that the patch is not good for Leopard. Since it seems the event handling about NSApp super class differs between Tiger and Leopard, hotkeys like Cmd-T (i.e. non effective key) on Leopard cause infinite loop and then crash. I'm not sure about the reason of this difference though... For Leopard, changes in my comment on May 15 actually works both with keys like Cmd-B (non key equivalent hotkeys) and Cmd-Space (Input Menu hotkey). This is why I put my comment on May 15, and then changed on May 31. I've played with Leopard on May 15 and with Tiger on May 31... So I think we should find a way that works both on Tiger and Leopard. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The problem is that Cmd-Space indeed IS a menu key equivalent, so the menu still executes it before the input method. This is the clash I'm referring to. OK. What I wanted to note is that current code wouldn't emit (Apple's input method switching) Input Menu keyevent even the Cmd-Space conflict was resolved. What the patch does achieve however is that the command bound hotkeys that are not in the menu (e.g. Cmd-B for bold) don't work anymore. Aha, that was my fault. Now I understand that the hot keys with Cmd not in the menus should be handled with keyDown() in salframeview.mm. I think the solution to emit Input Menu keyevent to switch input methods is to call super when all OOo's hotkeys is not handled in noop() from interpretKeyEvents(). Attached patch should do this and seems to fix the problem when Cmd-Space conflict is removed by customize. @pl: Could you review this change? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. However, as its leading is now assigned as mnExtLeading instead of addition for mnDescent, sw documents show these ExtLeading above the text lines. But typical Mac OS X application put these leadings below the text lines, the layout of document made by sw looks different compared with Apple's Pages application. So I'd suggest moving these ExtLeading below the text line for Aqua with changes below. After some trial of editing documents and spreadsheets with your change last weekend, I become think of the change is working fine. Adding mnExtLeading seems good compromise in regard of adding appropriate line spaces in the documents with Hiragino fonts. It would be great if you commit your change for 3.0. Also it would be fine if the UI dialog had additional one pixel or so around the text as I noted in the last comment. But this maybe another problem to address. Hmm, actually I didn't consider that case. Thanks for the explanation. Since it simplifies the code, I'd vote to remove the block I also think it's good idea. Yes, here is an Apple's doc (http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/InputManager/Concepts/KeyBindings.html). From this document, it doesn't seem that there is a way to configure the key-binding from application side. In which case the OOo binding would be preferred. Sure. I couldn't understand way Apple set the return value of interpretKeyEvents _void_. Anyway we should find a solution about this, however, other applications like Safari, Camino, iTerm seems to also suffer from this problem. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=78983 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Jul 23 11:20:36 + 2007 --- It seems this problem is more difficult than my first thought. There seems some more related problems. And I noticed my screenshot (arabic.png) was not the result of the ui locale patch but actually its from my glyph fallback patch in issue #79676. Sorry for the confusion. Here is the summary at the moment. 1. GetThemeFont() with smSystemScript might not return appropriate font when Mac OS X's system language preference doesn't match a language of OOo. 1'. To solve this, I propose using a mapping table between OOo's UI language and script language of ATS. 2. However, GetThemeFont() with smSystemScript and/or with kFontArabicScript never returns Arabic font name. It always returns Lucida Grande, which don't contain Arabic glyphs. So 1' doesn't work for all languages. 2'. It may be solved with wrapping GetThemeFont() and return appropriate system font like Geeza Pro for Arabic script. 3. But for Arabic case, since UI_SANS for ar locale seems to be assigned as Tahoma; Traditional Arabic;... in VCL.xcu, Geeze Pro won't be used even patch 2' is applied. In this case, Tahoma is used and it shows squares because it doesn't contain Arabic glyphs. 3'. Adding Geeze Pro before Tahoma in VCL.xcu will force to use the Arabic fonts. However, since it doesn't contain Latin glyphs, some UI strings written in English becomes squares... So it requires a glyph fallback as in issue #79676. So we need, 1) improve Aqua specific default UI font selection mechanism for every locales 2) implement proper glyph fallback mechanism (issue #79676) @ hdu: Could I ask one question? Related problem 3. I couldn't understand why Tahoma is used even I modified the code around GetThemeFonts() force to use Geeza Pro for Arabic script? On Japansese OOo package, the font selected by GetThemeFonts() is always used instead of fonts listed in VCL.xcu. Which code should I look into knowing about VCL.xcu font replacement? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [porting-issues] [Issue 79746] arabic text not displayed
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=79746 User ekato changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED Resolution| |DUPLICATE --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Jul 20 07:31:44 + 2007 --- I think it can be solved with the way mentioned in the issue 78983. And it seems using smSystemScript in GetThemeFont() has two disadvantage. One is that it only usable when Mac OS X's language setting matches with the language of OOo Aqua's package (e.g. Japanese OOo package shows only square glyphs for Japanese UI text when launched with English International-Languages setting of Mac OS X's System Preferences). The other is GetThemeFont() with smSystemScript doesn't support a few (or some?) languages as discovered in this issue (e.g. Arabic). If I modify to use kFontArabicScript explicitly for GetThemeFont() in OOo Aqua Arabic package, it can display its UI text (see attached test patch and screenshot). I think implementing a conversion table between UI locale and ATSUI font scripts helps to solve these two problems. But as hdu mentioned in issue 78983, synchronization with changing OOo's language setting may be further needed. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 78983 *** - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It solved the problem with generic unix vcl module as you've verified, but it won't fix for GTK vcl plugin. I should have written 'if ( nAttr EXTTEXTINPUT_ATTR_HIGHLIGHT )' instead of 'if ( nAttr == EXTTEXTINPUT_ATTR_HIGHLIGHT )' in the patch. '' is needed since in GTK vcl module, the reversed text attribute of input method is converted to SAL_EXTTEXTINPUT_ATTR_HIGHLIGHT | SAL_EXTTEXTINPUT_CURSOR_INVISIBLE. So, could use commit the change again? I'm really sorry to bother you again. Thanks, - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [porting-issues] [Issue 78970] Aqua: Too small ascent, de scent, leadings for Asian fonts
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=78970 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Jul 17 06:09:12 + 2007 --- On the other hand most of the CJK fonts from other platforms (e.g. Sazanami), from the MacTestDrive apps and many other sources do only contain a Mac-Encoding (Roman), which wouldn't trigger the new heuristic. Right. New one is intended to check older Mac platform fonts only. As you can see in the patch, it is assumed to be used with the OS/2 check. i.e. a check for cmap encoding is only performed even when OS/2 check cannot determine the CJK information. It may be too expensive to check every cmap subtable header (also I forgot to add 'break' when mbHasCJKSupport is detected in the loop of subtable check). So I've modified the patch to use mbHasOs2Table member and do Mac CMAP encoding check only for fonts without OS/2 table. In this way, most fonts can be determined with OS/2 unicode range check only, and the rest can be checked with Mac-Encoding trick I think. Since the font is already selected when we need this info it is not too expensive to get the whole CMAP and check for a few typical unicodes. Which unicodes would be best? Sorry, I couldn't follow your meaning. Could you elabolate more please? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. On Linux (or Unix), most input methods set the reverse or highlight attribute for the preedit text. But on Window, default setting of IME puts only underline attribute, so the problem doesn't become evident. Maybe you can try this with Linux (GNOME) on Calc and/or Impress. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
