if the control is set to a fixed UI font, then why not make it changeable and
get updated as the user choose a different font? what are the concerns?

@ mru

There is still something not right. Please see the attached screenshot. If your
argument is correct, then how come Wordpad can display the font name properly?

(My system wide font is window's default, i.e. Tahoma, and I selected Chinese
(PRC) as the non-unicode program language from Control Panel\Regional and
Language\Advanced tab).

It looks like OOo does not follow the non-unicode language settings, and chose
to display Han characters with Japanese bitmaps.

I downloaded OOo3.1 and installed on my windows, nothing was changed. Title
slide layout still does not have space for subtitle, and the title text box
remains at the top of the slide.

can you explain more for closing this request?

If you check out the presentation template at MS Office's website, you will find
that almost all slides have a separate title page design and a content page
design.

As I said in my original report, I can apply any of the content page layout to
my title page, but a lot of features needs to be reset, which completely miss
the point of being a layout template. A typical presentation title locates
roughly near the middle in the vertical direction, and have font size larger
than the titles in a content page. In a title page, usually it also have author
and affiliation info right below the presentation title. Occasionally, a
secondary title is needed between the title and author boxes.

This issue stems directly from a key missing feature in OOo: the page Master in
MS PowerPoint has separate title page and content page, but in OOo, only content
page template. The former design is more logically and practically desirable.

It is very inconvenient that OOo does not have a title-page layout from the
layout bar. The only thing I can do is to apply a content page layout, and drag
the header textbox lower, however, if I touched other things, such as template,
sometimes the header textbox will move back to the top of the page. Because the
title page is almost the very first thing that a user will likely to make, so,
missing this feature will make a bad first-impression.

Please set the textbox positions similar to the arrangement in this attached
figure:

Similar to issue #100649, another very inconvenient feature that has been long
missing is the shortcut for adding a new slide. I know I can right click on the
preview panel and select the pop-up menu, also from menu Insert\Slide, but this
shortcut is so frequently used and should not leave for user's customization. It
will also make lives a lot easier for users who do not want to move hands
frequent to grab mouse during their slide-making.

It would be nice to set it to Ctrl+M, as consistent to Powerpoint's settings.

Could you please attach a screenshot to show your test results? I am curious
which font works for your test (did you download the one that I used for my
test?). Particularly, which locale (language) did you test this?

As I said, I used Ubuntu 8.10, OOo 2.4.1, all default installation, no by-packed
build.

I also tried on Windows XP with OOo 3.0, although the text alignment work ok,
but it can only display with one Chinese font (SimSun) no matter which font you
choose (under English locale too). Perhaps this deserves another bug track as
well.

Chinese characters become blank spaces in a text-box with vertical text flow.
The text looks fine if select horizontal text flow. Selecting different Chinese
fonts won't fix the problem (even those with build-in vertical metrics). My
system is Ubuntu 8.10, OOo version is 2.4.1, my desktop locale is en_US.UTF-8.

Steps to duplicate:
1. download and install WenQuanYi Zen Hei font from
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=128192package_id=242056

2. download the sample document from
http://bbs.dartmouth.edu/~fangq/blog/upload/openoffice_vertical_chinese.odt

3. the top text box uses horizontal text flow, which looks fine, the second one,
all Chinese chars disappear.

After upgrading to OOo 3.0, I found it has some problems to display Chinese font
names in the font-selection box. This screenshot shows an example:
http://bbs.dartmouth.edu/~fangq/temp/ooo_zenhei_bug.png

the Chinese font used here can be downloaded from:
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=128192package_id=242056
(0.6.28 has win32 installer)

From the screenshot, the Chinese font name in the font selection box (not the
drop-down menu) was displayed by a strange bitmap font, looks like a Japanese
font (at 8pt). However, the 3rd and 4th characters were totally blacked out by
overlapping bitmaps, the 5th character disappeared. In the drop-down menu, they
were displayed correctly by this selected font (WenQuanYi Zen Hei).

This only happens on a Windows machine (XP and vista). There are at least two
Chinese fonts covers the entire unicode CJK basic code points, unfortunately,
OOo did not use any of these fonts, but a strange bitmap font with limited
glyphs.
