Observations from other Mepis users:

Fresh install of Mepis 7 (32bit) in a VirtualBox VM with only the old
OpenOffice removed. Yup, I also get a crash upon closing, but I get a SIGART
from soffice.bin with no backtrace.

Got a SIGSEGV ... when doing that. I got a backtrace if you want it. (I'll
attach the backtrace when he gets it to me.)

I'm not seeing the bug you are referring to. My install is DEV300_m12 Build-1

Other Mepis users are not finding this issue, so it must be something specific
to the way I customize my systems. I'm attaching the output from the kcrash

Issue is still present in BEA300_m1.

Also, I've just installed Sidux (64 bit) on a spare partition. This issue is
present in it as well.

I suspect an unmet dependency in Debian?

But, my laptop is running Mepis_64 upgraded to Sid, and does NOT have this
issue...

Will try to draft some other Mepis users to verify the presence of this issue on
their systems...

Also might be good to bring Pavel in on this in case it's a problem with his
builds. I don't know his user name here.

I use Mepis Linux 7 (Debian Etch derivative), with KDE 3.5.8. Since installing
DEV300m6, I get a KDE crash report whenever I exit an OOo application. Simply
opening an OOo app and closing it gives a SIG 6, opening, editing, saving, and
then closing gives a SIG 11. This did NOT occur with m5.

Data integrity does not seem to be effected.

I suspect that KDE is logging this somewhere, and could take a look if pointed
to the right file.

I use the .debs from Pavel Janik's builds at
http://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/DEV300/

Just attached the .openoffice.org2 folder and files in question. Path was
/home/irv/.openoffice.org2. Yes, I have not been deleting this folder when
installing a new build. As a matter of fact, I have copied it between computers
in order to have the same setup in my different work environments.

The folder is quite large - 15 meg or so, I think. I noticed that in the gallery
subfolder there is a .wav file. I have no idea where that came from - I played
it and its a song I've never heard before. Anyway, the folder is just like it
existed on my systems when I was experiencing this issue.

I was able to copy my macros into the new config folder and set up my
customizations without recreating the slowdown on right-click. My old config
folder has been around for a long time, and obviously something in there doesn't
like the newer builds. This is the limit of my abilities to analyze this, and I
presume that few if any users will experience this problem.

Bug occurs with a new empty document - no specific document required.
Right-click can be anywhere in the document, blank space or a word, selected or
not.

On a whim, I just renamed my .openoffice.org2 folder, which forced OOo to create
a new one with the defaults. The bug no longer occurs. So something in the way
OOo interacts with that folder is the issue. I have a few custom macros in there
and that's about all. Will experiment as I have time to try to narrow it down.

I just reinstalled 2.4 (4 Jan 08 build) on this system. The actual delay for me
is 6 seconds, and occurs every time I right-click, even if no action was
performed in the interim.

This system has a P4 running at 2 ghz and 1 gig ram, which I realize is old and
slow, but this long delay is out of sync with other apps and other features of
OOo and makes 2.4 unusable.

I suppose it might be a Mepis issue. I will try to find another Mepis user
willing to do a little testing.

Beginning with 630_m238 and with all subsequent builds, I have found that a
right-click in the text area of writer causes a cpu spike that lasts for a
noticeable and unacceptable period of time (2-4 seconds?) before the right-click
menu appears. This occurs with any right-click in the text area, whether text is
selected or not, and makes writer pretty much unusable. I've duplicated this
behavior on two systems, one with and Intel and one with an AMD cpu. These
systems are both older, but 630_m237 works fine with no delays, and other
features of 630_m238+ work fine. I generally use the .debs from Pavel Janik's
builds at http://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/680/, but
have duplicated the behavior using the .debs from
http://download.openoffice.org/680/.

I run Mepis linux 7, a Debian derivative.

Cannot format text to subscript or superscript.

1. Open Writer document
2. Enter some text
3. Select some text
4a. Click superscript or subscript icon - no change
4b. Right click, choose Style|Superscript or Subscript - no change

This has been broken since maybe 219 or so.

If this is a duplicate report, sorry. I did do the search.

I use the builds from Pavel Janik found at ftp.linux.cz on Mepis linux, which is
a Ubuntu derivative.

Thanks for your work!

Someone put me on to the .debs at

ftp://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/

The 1.9.83 .debs from there do _not_ display this behavior. I suspect the use of
alien in the installation isn't hooking everything up right.

WIll leave it to you developers whether the issue should be closed.

I've looked at this issue again this morning, and it seems I was wrong in my
analysis of this issue. It is occurring on this machine regardless of the video
driver. VESA, nv, and nvidia drivers all behave the same. It seems betters in
VESA because it runs 1024x768 as opposed to 2048x. Less screen real
estate=faster blinks/harder to see, thus I missed it before. This is a low-end
system -- 900 mhz Duron. Is it possible that the blinking is always present, but
is less visible/problematic on faster systems? I have a slower system at home
(without nvidia card) that I think I'll try m680 on and see it the blinking
happens there, too.

 Please try the following:
 - start OpenOffice.org
 - Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org -General
 - Check Use OpenOffice.org dialogs (nearly in the middle of the dialog...)
 - just to be sure: restart the Office

I don't find this option ?? I know I've seen it before. Hmmm. Checked two other
systems and it's not there, either. This is OOo1.9.79 all on Mepis systems.

By the way: this seems to be a general problem using the nv driver
 - please have a look at http://www.mepis.org/node/view/3520
That's a note to developers. nv driver works fine with Mepis on this system and
one other I have - screens are not screwed up or black. m680 is the only app
on this system that exhibits this behavior.

Please have a look at http://www.xfree86.org/current/nv.4.html if your card is
supported at all by this driver...
 I didn't find your Card (?)...
Dunno about supported, but it works fine ;-)

If nvidia and/or vesa work: why don't you use one of them?
See my previous comment from today - turns out issue exists with all three
drivers on this one system. Switching to nvdia driver was my solution, but (1)
turns out to be no solution and (2) seemed sensible to file the issue anyway.

I run Mepis (Debian) Linux. One of my machines has a geforce ?x 64m video card,
and I've been having trouble with m680 since about the .69 release.

Symptoms are that many of the toolbar icons, both standard and formatting,
visibly refresh whenever one of them is used. Click the 'bold' icon, for
instance, and maybe 10 of the icons will blink, one after the other, and in no
discernable pattern. One must wait for the blinking to end before one can use
the program again. This slows down work and is visually distracting.

I've done some playing around, and the problem exists only with the nv video
driver. Use the vesa or nvidia drivers and it goes away. I don't know if it's a
problem in 'pure' Debian or other Linuces.

This happens in all OOo apps, but I couldn't find a category that seemed right,
so am filing under Writer, assuming someone with more knowledge can straighten
it out. Also, sorry if it's a dupe - I found the issue search utility to be
nothing but frustrating. :-(

If I can be of more help (like figuring out exactly what video card is in the
machine in question), I'll be glad to.

Irv
