Desired is a user UI synchronization so that a user's settings in Tools
Options... and Customize... transport easily from one computer (hardware)
to
another.

Background: Both the Firefox and Opera web browser applications provide a
utility by
which an individual can create an account and maintain synchronicity between
work
stations. That is to say, when a change is made to the bookmarks file, the
next
time that user logs in on a different machine, the local bookmarks file on that
machine
is updated, too.

Tool bar customizations, save options, colors, and so forth could be
synchronized for a
particular user across various machines.

Additionally, providing such functionality could encourage additional user
subscriptions
to the OpenOffice.org servers.

I have just installed OOo v3.0 and successfully opened several DOCX files
created by others using Microsoft Windows 2007. However, this one did not open
properly ... the document is provided to assist in further import filter
refinement.

I have not experienced this in any other Open Office component, nor in any
other application. Only in the OpenOffice.org equation editor have I
experienced this random re-positioning of the cursor.

I am not aware of any other applications which could be contriubting to this.
At times I may have my web browser (Opera), my IM client (Pidgin), or my e-mail
client (Pegasus) open at the same time, but this would not be unique to the
equation editor, nor particularly to the OpenOffice.org suite.

The problem has been experienced with Win XP. I have only been using OOo
equation editor heavily since about May 2007; prior to that I had used it but
not heavily and cannot recall whether the problem was experienced.

However, for several months it has been occurring frequently. I've tried to
determine whether any specific set of circumstances brings it about (certain
keystrokes, etc) but no pattern seems clear. The cursor re-positions
frequently whether in the midst of series of keystrokes, or even when I'm not
using the keyboard or mouse, but simply studying the equation for a few minutes.

At times it re-positions to the end of the editor window frequently and with
rapid repetition -- almost as soon as I put it back to the desired edit point.
At other times, it will re-position only intermittently. I held off submitting
the bug report trying to find any sort of pattern, but never did figure
anything out.

I can reproduce the problem any time I wish ... just open the OOo equation
editor and begin to work.

When using the equation editor, while typing in the edit box, the cursor tends
to jump to the end of the text edit area. This occurs intermittently. It
varies in frequency from very often (rare) to occaisionally (common). It is an
annoyance since, in the midst of typing (e.g.) a polynomial the cursor may
relocate unexpectedly to the end of the edit area and characters are placed in
the wrong position. The problem is worse when dealing with matched sets of
characters (e.g., { ... } or ( ... )) because the result usually ends up in
an interleaved set (e.g., {}}{{}} or unmatched set. This causes the display
window to blank out, which complicates troubleshooting.

In the Tools - Customize ... dialog, a user can assign key strokes to issue
menu commands or modify those already assigned. The allowable key strokes
which can be edited include the SHIFT key and the CONTROL key in
combination with the other keys of the keyboard (e.g., CONTROL+Q, etc.)
Additionally, both modifier keys may be used (SHIFT+CONTROL+Q, etc.)

This feature should be enhanced to allow the user to modify key stroke
combinations including the ALT key (e.g., ALT+Q and CONTROL+ALT+Q, and
SHIFT+ALT+Q, and SHIFT+CONTROL+ALT+Q, etc.)

Add to the View menu a show formulas option. Currently this function is
done by accessing Tools-Options-Calc-View, but that is a lengthy process.
Oftimes, a user needs only to turn on formulas briefly to check some
circumstance, then would like to turn it off again. The present method of
doing
so is doubly cumbersome when it is likely to be used twice in succession in a
short time period.

[graphics-issues] [Issue 8735] Hyperlink in Impress

I have the same problem. If you browse to a hyperlink it puts in an absolute
path name. (This seems to work.) However, if the presentation were moved to
another computer for display ... it would be trouble. The target file for
linking has carefully been placed in the same directory.

Trying to insert a relative file path ... leads Impress to pre-pend a http://;
which is not desired ... and causes the link to NOT work.

Trying to remove the http://; makes Impress crash.

I found this older issue report: Issue 8735. It describes the same problem in
an earlier version of OOo.

When OOo crashes, works in progress are saved for later recovery. So far, fine.

But when OOo is subsequently launched any documents saved previously are
attempted to be recovered. Normally, this is what one wants to have occur.

However, I deleted a document so now recovery fails each time ... and each
time I launch OOo is goes back through the recovery process in order to look
for
a docuement that it thinks needs recovered ... but which in fact no longer
exists.

On the recovery page there needs to be a technique to manually override this,
such as marked a not-yet-recovered document to just forget about it.

I have just installed Fedora Core 4. On post-installing test of applications,
it was discovered that Open Office has an installation problem. In each user's
home directory, the .openoffice/user folder contains a symbolic link named
work which points to the user's home directory. This causes an infinite loop
if symbolic links are followed while tracing through directory structures.

It is not known if this problem existed in the FC 3 installation -- I only
discovered it while testing applications after having installed FC 4. Since I
did not upgrade OO at the time, I would suspect it had been there, but I am at
a
loss to explain why it did not present a problem at that time.

Work around: remove the file work (a symbolic link file) from the /home/
USERNAME/.openoffice/user directory.
