Great, many thanks!

Will the patches likely apply cleanly to 3.0.1? In that case, I think there's
still time to try and get this into Ubuntu Jaunty. I can probably put in some
effort to that end, but I'd like to check here first.

The page requires yet another login. ericb, maybe you can add the following
lines or something similar to that page?

allow Impress to go back in an animation sequence

* goal: Impress should allow to go back in an animation sequence
* Problem : Impress can go back one slide at a time. It is currently
impossible to go back one step in an animation. It is necessary to
repeat the complete slide with all animations. This is unacceptable
for a professional presentation program. Issuezilla 48179 has more
  information.
* Time plan : TBD

of course, if there are still problems with it, the report here needs to be
reopened. In the meantime you specified what is still broken for you and thus
we're all on the same page again.

Thanks for your update. I'll try to verify your findings when I have the time.

The same problem seems to happen when creating a relationship between two fields
where none of the two is a primary key. This already fails via drag-and-drop,
so the feedback is there. But it succeeds via "Insert - New relation" inside
the relationship manager, only to be dropped quietly later on.

Indeed, relations between InnoDB tables are stored correctly.

I have opened the new issue 96657 to request that a warning message be issued
when storing the relationship failed.

This is something I discovered after trying to verify issue 93474 as being
fixed.

The relationship manager (Tools - Relationships) allows adding constraints
between tables. Storing the relationship information seems to be left to the
backend. MySQL supports foreign keys in InnoDB tables only. Creating a
relationship between other MySQL tables seems to succeed at first (the
relationship is shown), but it is not stored and thus lost after closing the
relationship manager.

The relationship manager should test the relation has indeed been added and
issue a warning if that test failed.

Steps to reproduce

* load https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=251407 into a MySQL db
* access that db from OOo
* Open the relationship manager
* add a relationship between the guid field which is present in both tables
* close the relationship manager and reopen it

result: the tables are still there, the relationship is gone

oj, thank you for your continued support.

Are you saying that the relationship information is stored in the backend and
not in OOo itself? IOW, relationships from the relationship manager are only
supported in InnoDB for mysql? Relationships in queries, etc. are supported
just fine and apparently stored in the OOo file, no matter the backend.

I guess, it would be advisable that OOo issue a warning from the relationship
manager if a relation cannot be saved instead of quietly dropping it. I think
this would be a separate issue from this one, though.

atjensen, thank you for helping me understand this. Although I find it somewhat
unintuitive (adding a table without adding a field from it should not change the
result, or so I thought), the resulting SQL does indeed work as designed.

my system and I see more than ten rows after adding the table twice.

Can you maybe give more information on your system? I am running Ubuntu hardy
on a Thinkpad X24. I was able to reproduce this with the binaries provided from
ubuntu. Right now, I run a self-compiled binary based on m9 (OOo3) which still
has this problem.

copied from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/274867

steps to reproduce problem:
* open
http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/56852/OOo_debug.odb
* open "unnormalized table" query in edit mode
* Press F5, the query runs fine and displays three rows
* return to edit mode
* press F7 and add the products table for a second time
* press F5 to run the query again and see that there are a number of erroneous
rows in the result

still present even in m31

The SQL statement that returns the correct results is

SELECT "products"."productName", "categories"."categoryName" FROM "products",
"categories" WHERE "products"."categoryID" = "categories"."categoryID"

the one after adding the table for the second time is

SELECT "products"."productName", "categories"."categoryName" FROM "products",
"categories", "products" AS "products_1" WHERE "products"."categoryID" =
"categories"."categoryID"

I've had a chance to test this with a self-compiled binary based on m9 and some
ubuntu patches on top. It's a great start. Yet there is still work to do, I
believe. As far as I understand the patch exposes the hackery I did straight in
the XML. I'm very glad this is not necessary anymore and thank Thorsten for the
patch.

Eventually, I think it would be advantageous to fix this request a bit
differently. Currently the functionality is exposed under the text tab. It is
possible to set both the text anchor both vertically and horizontally (justified
alignment is not possible). This seems to partly overlap with what the
alignment tab offers (although technically speaking that is not the case as
Thorsten was kind enough to point out to me in #go-oo today). Of course that
hurts usability.

Very strange is all I can say!

Mechtilde, are you actually reading and understanding what is being discussed
here? I specifically said that ubuntu works fine for me. The OP said this was
only occurring in one user's account on his machine and not another one.

I think your crystal ball needs serious polishing - or even better, dump it. I
prefer the analytical approach to bug triaging, because one actually has a
chance to find and fix bugs that way.

Intuited, maybe you can be bothered to try with the official binaries and the
user's account where you see this problem? If indeed you don't see the problem
then, we'd have confirmed what Mechtilde is only assuming for the sake of
closing the maximum number of bugs (The real aim should be *fixing* the maximum
number of bugs).

Did you try JDBC instead of ODBC? Maybe that will work for you.

FWIW, I can not reproduce this with JDBC on Ubuntu, but you already said that
Ubuntu was working fine for you as well.

When you join two tables in a query, the resulting query "table" cells are
non-editable even when both tables individually are. Both tables have primary
keys.

steps to reproduce:
* open the attached file
* take a look at both tables inside, they have a primary key and are editable
* open the query and see that the cells are non-editable

I am still baffled by how you know this is a support request and where you
derive your confidence from that there is not a valid issue underneath? The app
crashed! If OOo did not have a problem, it wouldn't have. Period.

Thanks for providing the test case. I can confirm the described behaviour for
Ubuntu hardy and OOo 2.4.1.

Now somebody else will have to decide whether this is indeed "not working as
designed". I'd weigh in that it doesn't look like it is.

It's kind of sad to see this little understood issue (see comment Fri Nov 14
08:51:15 + 2008) closed in haste. Why the rush? And btw, I was told, an
app should never crash, no matter how borked a user's home dir might be. But we
didn't even yet establish this to be the case.

intuited, I'm sorry, I cannot reopen this ticket for you. I think the premature
closure reflects poorly on OOo. I'd reopen it if I still had the powers to do
so, but that expired some time ago.

I don't think this is a Ubuntu-specific problem, I am on Ubuntu as well. We

Alright, so this is a problem somehow related to the user. Alas, I don't have
much of an idea of what you could try to pinpoint this further. You say that
renaming the openoffice folder for your user does not help. That would point to
some other software on your system, I'm guessing some extension or something you
have enabled.

I've had similar problems in the past where I spent hours trying to figure out
why my data was not editable (cf.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=444129). Maybe we can figure this
one out together. I think it would be best if you uploaded a sanitized MySQL
dump and your ODB file here so others can try to confirm or refute the problem.

Do you have access to a 32-bit system to try and verify there? Can you try with

I don't know but there are no experimental packages. And it does not look like
either http://go-oo.org/download/ or
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/o/openoffice.org/openoffice.org_2.4.1-5/changelog
has something with this patch applied.

I am running Ubuntu hardy, but I could try and recompile a debian package if it
was available.

Great! Thanks a bundle.

Now I need to figure out a way to test this out. Having to compile OOo.org for
myself sounds scary, although I do compile stuff regularly.

It appears that bugs in "depends on" and possibly "blocks" are already struck
through if they are closed. It would be important to have them struck through
in comments as well.

@thb: And you know that to call that a shame is a gross understatement.

Is there *anybody* at all working on Impress? It does not look like that to me.
In that case, I frankly suggest to remove Impress from OOo. If there is (thb,
are you?), then I suggest that this person seriously looks at their priorities
for this module. As others have said, there is not much that is more important
than this bug, yet after several years, we are being told that there is not even
a schedule on when to put this in place. I am at a loss for words.

Wow! Forgive my sarcasm, but five years down the road, this very essential bug
might finally be fixed? Unbelievable. That would indeed be nice, although
personally I have lost interest - and faith in Collabnet.

Srivathsan, thank you for looking into this. Are you sure you have dealt with
the following issues correctly?

a) poster from gmane -> no cc necessary
b) A sends a question to the ml, B answers to A (and sends a mail to the list
as
well as a cc to A, I suppose). Then C reponds to B. Does A get a cc?

Sorry, it looks my instructions for reproducing this were not so clear (it took
me a while to reproduce it myself ;-) ) It still occurs for me in 2.0.4 on
ubuntu edgy, Gnome desktop.

Updated instructions

* enter page preview mode (in writer, might occur in other apps, too)
* remark that the "print page view button" is active
* print a page *with the "print page view button"*
* remark that the "print page view button" has become inactive and greyed out
closing and reentering page preview mode reactivates it.

but to be honest I have a bit of trouble pinpointing with 100% accuracy what
will always trigger and what will always work. All I can say is that I had some
trouble to reproduce this initially but then it "worked to break it" ;-). Maybe
you should try with a document with more than one page? This still needs
further triage.

When double-clicking on the new slide to open it, OOo crashed.

OK, what I really meant with the last comment was of course the following:

Thanks, guys! At least the HORIZONTAL (!) alignment can now be set in beta
108.

Please make sure the vertical alignment can also be set. All that has to be
done is work on the GUI, the backend code is there as verified by the attached
hack.

OK, sorry for getting back so late on this one. The OP had responded back to me
via PM and I think I do understand now what it is about.

I include the relevant portion from his mail in the hope he does not mind.

==begin quote==
In autolayout, there is no template for an image all by itself without text.
(Version 1.14) This is a weird deficiency. In education, slide shows often are
graphics only with no additional text on the slide.

It is not difficult to build such a slide from a blank, but if you are going to
have autolayouts, why not include this?

Thanks for all of your work.

Hi,

importing a UTF-8 encoded CSV file as the one that is attached to this issue
does not work at first. The text is usually correctly determined to be Unicode,
still it gets displayed as glibberish. Only when clicking on "Unicode UTF-8"
from the pull-down menu again to explicitly tell OOo to import as UTF will the
text be displayed correctly.

Running OOo 2.0.1-5 dated 2nd of March, 23:02:40 UTC on Debian testing.

Regards

Rolf

On the left hand side under "My Tools" I select "File issue" which is linked to
http://qa.openoffice.org/issue_handling/pre_submission.html. The second link in
the main text tells me to "check if [my] problem is already reported" which
leads to http://www.openoffice.org/issues/query.cgi. On that page at least
unconfirmed issues are not by default selected in the query.

The OP did not respond back within well over a year. Highly recommend closure
as WORKSFORME since it is unclear what is "too deep" in this case and where it
should be instead.

This list is non-complete but only serves to highlight that there currently is
no consistency for keyboard shortcuts for special characters.

CTRL+-: conditional/optional hyphen
CTRL+SHIFT+Numpad-: non-breaking hyphen
CTRL+Space: non-breaking space

This is inconsistent. Please straighten this out.

I think it would be a good idea to first discuss what other special characters
to include in this effort and than standardize (maybe upon the settings used in
Word which I found to be highly consistent and intuitive at the time I was using
it).

Furthermore, I want to make you aware that I filed a related but dissimilar
issue 52338 a short while ago which deals with the problem of the highly
unintuitive CTRL+SHIFT+NUMPAD- shortcut. I will set that issue to block this
one.

Hi,

http://www.openoffice.org/issues/query.cgi should default to include unconfirmed
issues as well. Reason: This is the page that is being given for reporters of
issues to check whether an issue has already been reported (check for potential
dupes). Of course that query should include as-of-yet unconfirmed issues as
well.

How recently have they been updated? When I reported the problem, it was still
too complicated and people were forced to enter data that one cannot reasonably
expect a normal user to know.

I consider myself fairly proficient with OOo and computers in general and I
think reporting a bug in Issuezilla is a MAJOR PITA.

This bug has nothing to do with worksforme since someone who is familiar with
Issuezilla from day in and out experience *might* know their way around. But
that is not the question. The question is whether an ordinary user can make a
bug report or whether most of them will give up half-way through. I think the
latter and that is what issue 42236 is about. This issue is a subtask to that
issue so that 42236 can be tackled one step at a time.

I fail to see how IZ works as it should, unless of course you literally did a
major overhaul over the weekend. I think that is not the case and thus I reopen
the bug. It doesnotworkforme and probably most others that do not spend time in
issuezilla every day.

I agree with Rainer that a "Do not know" option might be the way to go. It
should be the default and up to the user to change it from the default value.

Windows Word produces the non-breaking hyphen with said key combination. I
think OOo did as well in previous versions but I'd have to check that.

I think the fields

make no sense when entering an issue for the www component. They can only serve
to confuse the reporter. Please delete those fields from the mask for said

now, this gets really interesting. Take a look at issue 42236. It depends on
issue 52339 which at least currently is being shown as struck-through which I
guess is because I just reported it about a minute ago so it has the unconfirmed
state.

Request to strike through closed issues but not unconfirmed issues.

Hi,

as I said in issue 42236, entering an issue is too complicated and will probably
scare away many useful, potential contributors. This is a subtask to
above-mentioned issue.

Currently, there are already too many components to choose from. But to make
things worse, the reporter is forced to also choose a subcomponent where usually
things are equally fuzzy. There is *NO* documentation what each of these
subcomponents is about, so how do you dare to expect people to choose that?
What will that help? I think I am reasonably proficient with computers and I
*always* just guess and I honestly do not care to the slightest whether I even
remotely get the correct subcomponent. I guess the intention is to get reports
to the correct people faster, but this will not do.

Regards

Rolf
