I think nobody will enter ligatures manually into a text processor. Maybe a handful of people will do that but probably only for headlines not for every word in running text. So doesn't it make more sense to make ligatures a display-only thing (#4638) in OOo and internally keep the text literally letter-by-letter which would also not affect spell checking? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. No API is able to implement a crital ball. You need crital ball if you want to distinguish between serious und fun use of dashes. - this issue is now two years old - it's on hold because we wait for a feature that won't come (the critall ball inside the grammar API) - there has been a sulution been done by Karl (thanks again!) - which was discard in favour of grammatically incorrect fun word constructs - at the cost of grammatically correct dash handling Please do not retarget this issue again and again. There are people who hacked ispell to compile on windows but you want more reliable things than this as prereqs for a OOo compile I think. igerman98 also requires GNU make. The grammer checker should be the (only) one who gets words/sentences/sections from OOo and the grammar checker is the only one who should call the spell checker. At that point a case sensitive/insensitive switch in hunspell would be required. Within a sentence those Words would be a typos. So to find mistakes like that, OpenOffice could do case sensitive spellchecker lookups for words that are not at the beginning of sentences. Laci, I think Hunspell can't do case sensitive spell checkings like this. However I think this is a required feature for a future grammer checker anyway. Do you think it makes sense to extend Hunspell this way? The next question would be if OpenOffice should be enabled to do case sensitive spell checker lookups itself or if this should be one of the very first basic tests of a grammer checker layer (which in turn should then be calling the spell checker) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. For example looking up a synonym for cars is unsuccessful. As far as I know there is currently no way to handle something like this. What would be needed is something like ispell's feature to show the root word of which affix rules created flections from: # echo cars | ispell @(#) International Ispell Version 3.2.06 08/01/01 word: ok (derives from root CAR) I think hunspell can do this with with hunmorph, too. Then thesaurus synonym entries could be enhanced by additional information for flections of each synonym. In the easiest case the flections could be added manually one by one. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=60717 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Feb 1 02:42:18 -0800 2006 --- if the document's language i set to de_AT the sentence Das Kücken ist zuhaus should be correct with de_DE Kücken and zuhaus must be typos. Regarding the hyphenation files: de_AT can use the de_DE hyphenation files - they are *equal*. I don't think there are real de_CH hyphenation patterns - there are no de_CH TeX hyphenation patterns and probably also no de_CH OOo hyphenation patterns. One can use the de_DE hyphenation patterns (that's what everyone did over the years) but as the Swiss don't use ß (sz ligature) but ss instead, the hyphenation patterns are probably incorrect for some words where ß is replaced with ss in Swiss. The problem is that the wordlist once used for creating the German hyphenation pattern is vanished - otherwise recalculating more precise Swiss patterns would be no propblem. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. At the moment you can define DICT lang REGION dictionarybasename HYPH lang REGION hyphpatternbasename THES lang REGION tesaurusbasename We now have already two spellcheck engines and some people may have reasons to use both from time to time. However you can't define in dictionary.lst which dictionarybasename is for myspell and which is for hunspell. There may also come up other spellcheck engines which will have the same prolbem or where the problem might be worse because other spellcheck engines might not be compatible with the myspell dictionary format. There might also come up alternative thesaurus engines and alternative hyphenation engines - they will all have the same problem that dictionary.lst does not jet make a difference between the dictionary names for different engines. I want to propose to leave DICT for myspell dictionaries but to introduce names like DICT_HUNSPELL for hunspell and so on for other spellcheck engines. Hunspell might itself do a fallback to DICT if it doesn't find a DICT_HUNSPELL (because hunspell is backward compatible with myspell and can use its dictinoaries, too). The same naming scheme should be used for HYPH and THES entries to make sure future alternative versions don't clash with existing versions. This will also make handling of installing dictionaries for DictOOO easier and saver. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Example: 1. enter the word car in writer, look up a synonym for this word. 2. in the theasurus popup double-clicking on (noun) railcar will result in ) railcar being put into the replace text-box. That is a bug IMHO as a meaning must not neccessarily be a valid replacement, just words which are clicked in the synonym-list may be taken as replacements. 3. double-click a word in synonym list, for example Wheeled vehicle will also result in ) Wheeled vehicle being put in the replace text box. All in all I suggest: - double-clicking in the thesaurus should have the same effect as a single click. - clicking in the meaning list should not result in changes of the replacement text box (tested with OO.o 1.9.92, Linux) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Instead it should open that file reguardless if the filename is validly encoded in the current locale's charmap. You might for example use hex %F6 for German in iso8859-1 like webbrowsers use to display non-ASCII URLs. Many people have problems opening files which just are not UTF-8 and don't know what to do. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
