For OOo3, we need to get rid of some of the grey. It's so Windows 95-ish. It may be a bit of Office Envy, but especially now I'm on Vista and moved to Office 2007, I'm sick of grey everywhere. I propose a default Application Background called Steel Blue: Something like Hue:210 Saturation: 40 Brightness: 85 (RGB 128 171 214) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Didn't one version of Word save in RTF, what did MS use then for embedding images? It is an MS format, after all. It may be these options should be set in Writer Options, or there be two submenu items, so it is still quick without going through a lot of options; so if the recipient always uses the latest Word, DocX can be selected as the Default, or 97 format for backwards compatibility, or RTFD if for an Office:Mac user... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=89646 User msandersen changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|CLOSED|UNCONFIRMED Resolution|WORKSFORME| --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat May 31 14:22:44 + 2008 --- In the test document, which has a mixture of character and paragraph styles: Select All and apply Default Formatting. The selection still shows as Multiple Languages. Applying another Paragraph Style like Text Body, or even a Character Style, which has the desired Language set, still does not set the Language of the selection. Only using Tools-Language-for Selection-English[UK] (or whichever language), or selecting it from the bottom menu, overrides it. If instead of using Default Formatting you apply a desired Paragraph style, other styles are not reset, even when they are the default character style with only manual override (as in the first paragraph). Selecting Default does not reset all the styles to the Default style, nor the Paragraph style. Applying character styles to the selection is inconsistent in what they change, they don't set all the character attributes to the new style. None of it changes the Language. Selecting a group with a style applied which has a specific language, then applying another character style with a different language, the selection retains the original language. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=89646 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue May 20 13:18:05 + 2008 --- Interesting. Maybe I should request that to be in the Styles palette, as a Reset button. Nonetheless, this does not work as described in OOo3 beta. Language for the Default paragraph style is already UK English. What I tried: 1. Select part of a paragraph which has Paragraph and Craracter styles I want to change. 2. As a test, I set the Language of this selection to US English, and a few other character characteristics like font size and style to make it obvious. 3. I select the whole paragraph and select Format-Default formatting 4. Font, typeface, and size is changed to the Default. However, language and nothing under Indent and spacing is changed. They remain as they were, ie the leading (linespacing), paragraph spacing before and after, etc, as well as language, is unchanged. The whole paragraph reads as Multiple Languages. 5. Keeping the paragraph selected, I set Character style to Default and Paragraph style to Text Body. The Paragraph Style override works, but the character style does not. The language remains Multiple Languages, until I either choose Tools-Language-For Paragraph-UK English (UK), or choose the language from the bottom menu. This is not expected behaviour. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [framework-issues] [Issue 89563] New default Application Ba ckground colour

Currently in Writer users can set a different Application Background colour in Options-Appearance, so presumably it should be as simple as changing the default colour. As the developers are well aware, they have to update the look of OOo to remain competitive with MS Office on modern hardware with big(ger) screens, even if they don't implement an interface change as drastic as that. This is just a very minor thing they can do, not even touching on a UI revamp. I use Large Icons as a small measure to make it look nicer and less dated. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I expect applying Default styles to remove existing styles, else for there to be a Remove Styles button, so for instance highlighting the whole text and removing Font Styles so nothing overrides Paragraph styles. Selecting a new Paragraph Style I naturally expect ALL of its characteristics to be applied. This is not always the case. Certainly, there are functions of Writer I don't know about, but this seems the logical way for it to work. I do know that I can highlight the Multiple Language paragraphs and apply it via the bottom menu, but this is impractical to always check and reapply language separately when the Paragraph style should have set everything. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It took a while to find it, had to search System and non-indexed locations as it is well hidden away. However, I have no idea of how to make use of this file, as the colours appear nowhere. If there is a way to load them as a palette easily, fine, but I see none. Even so, I'm sure you don't suggest users should have to edit obscure system files to get a better colour palette. But it seems they are there for some purpose, which is good. Obviously I realise writing HTML documents is not its main purpose, but since it makes a point of being able to, it seems a good default palette to have available, although by no means the only possible palette. Whether loaded by default is not as important as being able to open it when needed. OOo also comes with a Drawing program, after all, so being able to at least LOAD an extended palette like the Named HTML colours palette would be a Good Thing. So my request stand for a better palette, and this one is a reasonable choice to have available. especially as you say the system knows of it already. Granted, it's optimised for RGB, not for printing. Having a more comprehensive one for Draw, like the palette in Inkscape (although SVG is a Web format too), on by default is more important than for Writer or Calc, nonetheless having a nice preset palette handy would be good for them too. Maybe Draw could have a scrollable colourbar like Inkscape. When the Drawing toolbar is activated in Writer or Calc, they too could have this scrollable colourbar above the drawing tools. However these are separate feature requests. Curiously, another page with numbering displays correctly (apart from gradient). The gradient is listed as Background Style 7 in PowerPoint 2007 (under Design), in case that helps. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. As I haven't got Office XP, I cannot test if it is at fault. Import of the pptx file into Impress still does not work correctly, with the background missing. Note: The remaining numbering issue seems to be because it considers the first line as the first bullet point, even with it off on that paragraph, and fails to renumber the remaining points. [framework-issues] [Issue 22406] Mozilla / Firefox-like plu g-in (stand alone) for viewing OOo documents o nline.

I see 2 ODF plugins for Firefox for viewing ODF files, and it seems OOo also installs a plugin. This is what currently opens .odt files at present in FF3beta. I had installed ODF Reader on FF2, but it is currently disabled as incompatible with FF3beta. ODFReader ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1888 ) is what this issue asks for, AFAIK, though incomplete and buggy.I expect a full implementation would be a big plugin. It's up to the Mozilla crew to decide if such a plugin, when mature, be made default, but if it's too big, perhaps not. The existing OOo plugin is a good way to get it to people, as they have no reason to click an .odt file link if they don't have OOo. PDF is better for read-only documents. But a standalone plugin for .odp presentations might not be a bad idea. odfPlugin ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5907 ) transforms ODF files into HTML pages, so a little different. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It's a pretty bad usability bug. I searched Help and didn't find the answer to how to remove the hyperlink (I searched URL). There's mention of the Hyperlink dialog and how to modify its properties, but not removing it. The current method is extremely non-intuitive, and I only found it through this thread. I second what has been said about a simple Remove button and option in the Contextual menu, the first places you look. When you have a Hyperlink dialog, you naturally assume everything you need to add AND remove links are there. A simple button can't be that hard to implement, surely. Changing case is such a common function, that they SHOULD appear under Change Case, in a representative style, and they should override character styles. Relating to the quote from mkol: Format - Change Case I don't know if there's a technical difference in OO between this and Format - Character... - Font Effects tab It seems the Font Effects in OO override the Change Case, whereas in MS Word, if I set an Effect like Upper Case, but then go to Change Case, the Character Style is changed. In OO, this is inconsistent since I can override the Character Style like Bold, Underline, etc, on the toolbar, and the Chacracter Style is changed, whereas Change Case doesn't. To the user, there is no difference, nor should there be. In other words, this is a separate bug. I haven't made a search if it has been reported. Regardless, this is such a common function, that they SHOULD appear under Change Case, and in the representative style suggested above), and they should override character styles. Else you're saying that Change Case itself is redundant, as is the Toolbar options, and MS Word has it wrong as well. So, Format - Change Case SHOULD have UPPERCASE, lowercase, iNVERT cASE (sounds better than Toggle Case), Initial Caps, and Sentence case. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. That is the main issue. Some of the other issues appear to relate to when Auto hyphenation is on in the style, and you run Hyphenation. Somehow although I'd defined the style with the hyphenation, it wasn't applied until I used the Hyphenate function, as it seems changes to the style isn't always applied until you double-click the stylename while on a paragraph. On an imported unhyphenated document, running the Hyphenation function over the document, it will hyphenate all words at the first convenient 'break' irrespective of paragraph settings (eg ex-ample where the Paragraph style specifies hyphenation at 4 characters min at start and end) or whether you click Hyphenate, Next, or Remove (they all leave it hyphenated). The whole document is hyphenated, even after cancelling and cannot be undone except by turning off Auto Hyphenation or inserting manual hyphens. When alternate breaks (hyphenations?) are available, clicking the arrow for the alternate and then hyphenate, the alternate hyphenation is done, but if you then click the other arrow to go back, it won't revert. This happens irrespective of the language used (I tried AU, UK, and US English) OpenOffice 2 beta2 and OO 1.1.3 Windows XP Professional Locale: AU Document Language: UK (also tried AU and US, as well as with individual paragraphs) I have used Dictionary / Hyphenation packs from this site and edited the Dictionary.lst file DICT en AU en_AU HYPH en AU hyph_en_GB THES en AU th_en_US_v2 DICT en GB en_GB HYPH en GB hyph_en_GB THES en GB th_en_US_v2 DICT en US en_US HYPH en US hyph_en_US THES en US th_en_US_v2 DICT da DK da_DK HYPH da DK hyph_da_DK #HYPH de DE hyph_de_DE #DICT it IT it_IT #HYPH it IT hyph_it_IT #HYPH ru RU hyph_ru_RU On OO 1.1.3, where the problem slso occurs, the dictionaries were installed by an automatic script from this site. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Body text is styled with the style Text body in 11pt Palatino (on Windows) and Hyphenation under Text Flow set to Auto with 4 chars at line end and 4 Chars at line begin (Shouldn't that be Beginning or Start?) PDF shows an entirely different issue here. The page break after the Foreword leaves an empty page before the Introduction. [sw-issues] [Issue 54868] New - Apply AutoCorrect fu nc under Tools for existing docs
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=54868 Issue #:|54868 Summary:|Apply AutoCorrect func under Tools for existing docs Component:|Word processor Version:|OOO 2.0 Beta2 Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|All Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|ENHANCEMENT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|formatting Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|msandersen --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Sep 20 10:27:03 -0700 2005 --- Function under Tools to apply AutoCorrect settings to existing document, especially the conversion of single-quotes and double-quotes, and should also have an option for apostrophes (as in don't). The latter could be added to AutoCorrect, so that straight apostrophes are coverted to curly ones if desired. An Apply botton could be in the AutoCorrect dialogue box, but if that was the only place, it would be inconveniently out of the way. A top-level function under Tools would be best, under the AutoCorrect entry (Apply AutoCorrect). This would save a major headache where you open an existing very long document from someone else (eg a writer submitting a story, or opening a plain-text file). It may also be an option in Tools - Options... setting conversion for whenever a document is opened, or perhaps only non-native formats (eg txt or doc) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 54816] New - Document Viewer util ity

Something akin to Adobe Reader but for OO docs. A separate modest-sized download from OOo would allow other non-OO users to view OO documents, without committing to a huge download (esp us dial-up users) and large installation. Of course, I don't know if that's feasible, ie if the parser would be too large. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
