[sc-issues] [Issue 5930] Engineering Notation
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=5930 --- Additional comments from o...@openoffice.org Thu Oct 21 07:00:41 + 2010 --- I agree that the first priority is to be able to display a number with engineering notation, first E03, E06 etc., then secondly display a number with suffix milli, micro etc. Text recognition can come later. And a unit of measure suffix can also surely be added later - in Excel one can add text to the display of any number (a unit is the same regardless of the exponent). regards, - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [lingucomponent-issues] [Issue 89211] Retain currently installed language tools when installing new version
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=89211 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri May 9 08:32:18 + 2008 --- I can usually find the dictionaries somewhere - although from memory the file that lists the installed dictionaries gets overwritten, so I keep a backup copy. I think this is probably a duplicate of 72559. The whole upgrade process with respect to dictionaries is unecessarily messy. I think a few lines of code would fix it: 1) Find existing dictionary.lst file 2) move/copy this file and all referenced files in the list to the directory of new installation 3) move/copy dictionary.lst file to the new location 4) register the above with the new version of the software (I suspect this step already happens automatically on boot up, but I can't remember for sure) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It is reassuring that comments don't get forgotten, even if nearly 3 years old. I think you programmers are doing a great job with OOO. Thank you. However I think it's a bit of a pity that CTRL SHIFT Y has been selected. That key combination, for a task that is repeated, is guaranteed to give some people RSI. It is awkward with one hand. MSO is easier (CTRL-Z, CTRL-Y), as is WordPerfect (CTRL-Z / CTRL-SHIFT-Z / CTRL Y). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I am most interested in having the number of the heading, Figure, Table etc. referenced, not the full caption text. In OOO one needs to define a bookmark, then make the cross reference. In MSO the first step of defining the bookmark is done for the user (see attached pictures). This is one feature that I use all the time. There were a couple of other WinXP settings that I had also changed, including adding English (US) as a keyboard, and another entry in the regional settings area. I don't know which change made the difference. I think 2.0.3 might be sensitive to some XP computer settings, and closing and reopening OOO and the Quickstarter may not be sufficient in some cases. However mba's idea doesn't apply only to documents saved as templates. I once worked as quality manager for a consulting firm with a couple of hundred staff. Many of our QA docs opened several pages into the document (ie after the table of contents and introductory sections). Another example is reports: the Executive Summary/TOC/Introduction (ie the first page of really useful information) is often preceeded by a title page and a revision control page. A document setting to open at an author-defind location could be useful in that situation, too, especially as we move more deeply into the electronic age (although I have noted above that, in my experience, most documents are circulated as pdf - Acrobat's document-specific setting to automatically display the bookmark pane is useful in that regard). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Better than nothing, but not quite the same as this issue which is about something more closely resembling a former functionality. I note that we already have a shortcut to return to the beginning of the document :-) Perhaps I should ask: If you are going to store the last-save position (ie even with 33307), what is the problem with having an option to do this automatically? You have raised a separate issue related to toolbars. The one I initiated relates to shortcut keys. I notice that Thackert is correct - the repeat command is now listed in the shortcut command list. So it can be done by the user. Thanks Thackert. However both jmachado1972 and I suggest that, for compatibility with other programs, a default shortcut key could be considered. I suggest that this issue remain open, but be downgraded to P4. Openoffice default is ctrl-z for undo, ctrl-y for redo and no default for repeat. MS-Word uses ctrl-z for undo and ctrl-y for both redo repeat depending on the context. Wordperfect uses ctrl-z for undo, ctrl-shift-z for redo, ctrl-y for repeat. Apart from the awkward reach for the 'y' key, I like this. I have set mine with ctrl-z for undo, ctrl-y for redo (Openoffice defaults) and added ctrl-shift-z for repeat. Probably less intuitive, but easier on the hands. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
