Have a look at the attachment. By, now, when you select a series, you can bring
it forward/backward (cf screenshot). This is ok. What could also be implemented
is the ability in a diagram to arrange all the series at once following a given
criteria.

For exemple, all the series could be sorted by category name (alphabetically),
by value... This could be inserted in the UI when in the Arrangement sub-menu.
When a user

- bring forward
- bring backward

- sort alphabetically
- sort by value
- special sort...

The special sort could open a dialog and give to the user the choice in which
to order the series. Some more complex examples :

- sort the series given the mean of the sum of the series values.
- sort the series given the max value of the series
- ...

This dialog could tak inspiration from the data pilot dialogs.

A strange behavior happened while using the chart module. Have a look at the
picture attached. As you can see, I now have only a series, but each column has
a different color.

To get to that point, open the file before the bug hapens. Modify the data-range
to include only the A series (right click on the diagram - modify data-range)
and validate (create).

I attached three files :

- The image showing the result
- The file before the bug happens
- The resulting file after the bug

Note : as we can not modify data-ranges in the new chart, I was not able to
reproduce that bug in it!

Would also be useful to be able to change the default colors of series,
background... of a new diagram like it is possible to do it for the default

In the dialog to change the type of the diagram (when a diagram is already
created and you want to chage its type), the help button is where the ok
button is used to be. Would it be possible to change the its place and put it
the normal way like in the second screenshot ?

See the two screenshots attached.

The behavior of the chart is a bit surprising reagrding which series is drawn
over the others. Take the area normal diagram in the screenshot. If you look
at the legend, you see that the series on the top is the series on the first
layer (the neaest to the user).

Now take the Line points only, and look at the legend. You see that the series
on the top is the series drawn first (and covered by the other series), hence,
it is the series on the last layer !

This behavior is inconsistent not only for the two diagram taken as an example.
Would be nice to change this behavior to make it consistent for all diagrams.

When you have a bargraph (or any other diagram), when you select a serie and
move that serie forward/backward, the blue rectangle showing which serie is
selected is associated to a wrong serie.
For example, in the attached file below

- double-click on the diagram and select a serie for example the A serie
  (you should then see small green points on the columns).
- click right and try to re-arrange the A serie (arrangement bring
backward/forward).
- Now, the selected serie is still the A serie, but the blue rectangle showing
the values from the serie is associated to the C serie.

In the new chart module, when you select a series and re-arrange it, you lose
the focus. For example, in the attached file below :

- double-click on the diagram and select a series for example the A series
  (you should then see small green points on the columns).
- click right and try to re-arrange the A series (arrangement bring
backward/forward).
- The selection is then lost, and the series A is no more selected ! You have to
click back on it for the selection to appear again.

When pasting a diagram, the data range is lost, and we are not able to set one
anymore. On the example doc, try to :

- Copy the diagram in the page
- Click on a cell anywhere in the sheet
- Paste the diagram

The result is an empty diagram with no columns at all. In that diagram, we are
not able to modify the data range !

Have a look at sheet and in particular to the diagram.
The bar chart should have three colors (purple, yellow, red). In my sheet,
the legend shows 3 colors, but the diagram shows only 2. Also, the chart
looks really strange...

If you do not see this behaviour, have a look at the picture attached.

How did I get the problem ? I created a doc with all sorts of graphs (the third
file attached) and then I created the last diagram. For that diagram, I changed
its type, and re-arranged the series several times. There the bug appeared !
If you change the type of the diagram, I think anything is correct again.

For that bug, I have no way to reproduce it by now.

I attach three files :

- A screenshot of what I get.
- the minimal document showing the problem.
- The file with all the data from which the problem appeared.

A optionnal feature for the pie charts would be to enable the user to re-arrange
the parts of a pie chart. For example, selecting a segment he could move it
clockwise or counter-clockwise.

To add some comments about this feature :

At the moment, even when you just do not select any particular range, you can
access to the At the moment, even when you just do not select any particular
range, you can access to the Format::Arrangement::(Bring forward / Send
Backward).

For example, if you double-click on the chart, you will have access to the menu
Bring forward / Send Backward. This should not be the case, as you need to
select a particular column in order to that Arragment feature to make sense
the feature should be disabled (in gray).

Now, we should establish when this features should be in gray and when they
should be enabled.

Should be choose the same behavior as in the current chart implementation ?

Do you think writing a spec about it would be a good idea ?

Hello,

I tryed it also on a Linux Fedora Core 4, with OOo 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 and can
confirm this problem.

Note : There is a bug with Thunderbird 1.5 (not due to OOo)

Here is the entire example (in Florent's example, an line was missing) :

Sub Main

createUnoService(com.sun.star.system.SimpleCommandMail)

oServiceMail = createUnoService(com.sun.star.system.SimpleCommandMail)
'oServiceMail = createUnoService(com.sun.star.system.SimpleSystemMail)

if isNull( oServiceMail ) then
print Null
else
print Not Null
end if

oMail = oServiceMail.querySimpleMailClient()

oMessage=oMail.createsimplemailmessage()

URL1 = /home/pagalmes/cdcatalog.xml
URL2 = /home/pagalmes/devdays.pdf

Dim files(2) As Variant
files( 0 ) = ConvertToURL( URL1 )
files( 1 ) = ConvertToURL( URL2 )
'files (1) = file://

oMessage.setAttachement( files() )

oMail.sendSimpleMailMessage( oMessage, 0)

print End
End Sub

as many users need it one day or the other, it would be a nice feature to have
the Flat Filter integrated directly in OpenOffice.org as an optional component.

To add some comments on this bug :

what Alain is trying to do is to access this service SimpleSystemMail in order
to send mails through StarBasic.

On Windows 98, when using the dialog is to send a mail (file send Send
document as email), things do seem to work. But when using this service
SimpleSystemMail to do it, the problem reported above appears.

On the source code, we found that OOo seems to send mails using this service in
the following file :

./sfx2/source/dialog/mailmodel.cxx

[...]

Reference XSimpleMailClientSupplier   xSimpleMailClientSupplier;

// Prefer the SimpleSystemMail service if available
xSimpleMailClientSupplier = Reference XSimpleMailClientSupplier (
 xMgr-createInstance( OUString( RTL_CONSTASCII_USTRINGPARAM(
 com.sun.star.system.SimpleSystemMail ))), UNO_QUERY );

if ( ! xSimpleMailClientSupplier.is() )
{
 xSimpleMailClientSupplier = Reference XSimpleMailClientSupplier (
 xMgr-createInstance( OUString( RTL_CONSTASCII_USTRINGPARAM(
 com.sun.star.system.SimpleCommandMail ))), UNO_QUERY );
}

if ( xSimpleMailClientSupplier.is() )
{
 Reference XSimpleMailClient  xSimpleMailClient =
xSimpleMailClientSupplier-querySimpleMailClient();

 if ( !xSimpleMailClient.is() )
 {
 // no mail client support = message box!
 return SEND_MAIL_ERROR;
 }

[...]

So, it seems to us that the code stops there on the return SEND_MAIL_ERROR;
line.

Hello,

As you look to be lacking of resources and this feature is quite important to
many users, I would like to help you correcting it.

Do you have any pointers and ideas on how I should get started ? Which are the
files involved ? Which is the philosophy of the implementation ? Does someone
already has an idea on how to solve it ?

Thanks

Sorry, I maybe didn't explained in details the problems. This bug appears when
you open documents exported in the doc format (word 97/2000/XP). the file
background.sxw is the original document you have to export. The
background_OOo2.0.doc is the file already exported.

To see the bugs, you have to export it in the word format, and then open it with
the differents versions of OOo and word. I only tryed word 2000 and word 2003.
the results are just above.

 except from the fact that the background image is stretched in Word, the
 export is fine.

Which version of Word did you used ? As stated, it worked fine with Word 2003,
but not with Word 2000.

 Also OOo 2.0.1 opens background.sxw correctly: the background
 image is a background image and not an inserted image on page 1.

In fact, the background.sxw file is opened nicely with all the OOo version, as
it is the original file. But if you try to open th background_OOo2.0.doc, with
OOo, you will notice the bugs.

In fact, I suppose that this is a bug, as when you open the file, OOo is not
able to import it correctly.

In a header, when trying to get an image on the right, and some centered text on
several lines, the behavior is not the one expected. Here is some ASCII art to
show what is expected :

 _
du texte sur un ligne | |
  sur la deuxième | image |
|_|

So, we would like the text comming automaticaly and not writing over the image.
We configure the image with the following options :

Anchor : to paragraph
Alignement : Right
Wrap : Page Wrap

The result is the one expected when this is done in the body of the document.
But when done in the header, the text goes through the picture.

 _
du texte sur un ligne an|d the tes|t

In a header, when trying to get an image on the right, and some centered text on
several lines, the behavior is not the one expected. Here is some ASCII art to
show what is expected :

 _
du texte sur un ligne | |
  sur la deuxième | image |
|_|

So, we would like the text comming automaticaly and not writing over the image.
We configure the image with the following options :

Anchor : to paragraph
Alignement : Right
Wrap : Page Wrap

The result is the one expected when this is done in the body of the document.
But when done in the header, the text goes through the picture.

 _
du texte sur un ligne an|d the tes|t
  sur la deuxième | image |
|_|

Hello,

When writing reports, the user may need to add an appendix. This appendix could
be for example a pdf document already written. For now, inserting such a file in
a report is not possible. So the user has to print the report, and then the
appendix.

It would be nice, if by a mean or another, we could create a document which is
composed of documents in various formats.

An idea could be the use of a master document, in wich we select a pdf file.
While editing, the pdf would not be displayed, but when printing all documents,
including the pdf would be printed.

Hello,

At the moment, there is no way to compile the examples from the sdk with the gcc
4.0 versions, as it can be seen in the file
openOffice.org2.0_SDK/settings/settings.mk :

Lines 247 and following :

ifeq $(shell echo $(GCC_VERSION) | cut -c 1) 3
COMID=gcc3
CPPU_ENV=gcc3
else
COMID=GCC
CPPU_ENV=gcc2
endif

Would be nice if this could work in the future.

Regards,
Pierre-André

[sw-issues] [Issue 41187] crash when creating a chart from an array

This is not a big issue, but I will answer in order to express the point of
view of an end-user.

 In a complex table (where cells have been merged) it
 does not really make sense to generate a Chart from. [...]

 Now you should select the range of the table BEFORE you call
 Insert.Object.Chart.

In fact, the behaviour is not so natural. Two ways should be doable :

Way 1 :

* insert  object  Chart
* Select the upper-left 2 lines and 2 colummns.

Way 2 :

* Select the upper-left 2 lines and 2 colummns.
* insert  object  Chart

Why would the way 2 work and not the way 1 ? Thinking naturally, both should
work ! Maybe the answer is that it is difficult to code ? I agree this is not a
big issue, but it would improve the look-n-feel.

Greetings,
Pierre-Andre

PS : thank-you for doing a so wonderful job :-)
