@ sicart : Yes OOo should not crashed when you disable French Spacing
extension. But why disabled this? It is not needed. The best method is, first,
to declare the English language paragraph or part in... English by this method:
1. Select your text that is in English language.
2. Select the Format character menu and choose English in the list, or simplest,
choose English clicking on the bottom status bar.
Now the insecable spaces are automatically disabled.
3. Declare a new issue for the bug in this web site.

If your students work only on English texts, create or modify a Standard style
with all text in English. I think that is very simple and it is the base of all
wordprocessing program (MSWord include). See the documentation.

If all users of free software do as you did when a crash occurred, free software
would not exist and OOo would not in that good quality. This soft is free and in
exchange we try to improve it declaring problems and other issues in the right
place. Remember: this program is free and (partially) the fruit of the
cooperation between users.

OpenOffice 3.1 crashes closing a file (RTF or ODT) with a strange paragraph
format. This paragraph has very large width with hidden beginning and ending
impossible to corrected this width.

My method :
I opened the RTF file that I received.
I closed this file.
OpenOffice crashed.
This is always reproducible.
I reopened this RTF file.
I copied and pasted an embedded paragraph in a frame in a new file named
essai.odt.
This paragraph (not the frame) have very large width which is impossible to
modify. The content of the paragraph is editable but the beginning and the end
are invisible.
I saved essai.odt.
I closed the window of essai.odt.
OpenOffice crashed.
The file essai.odt is readable without other issue and can be saved. But
OpenOffice always crash when this file is closing.

My distribution is Mandriva 2007.1 with KDE 3.5.6, very coloured KDE style
with normal setup. I have not seen any such effect with other software than
OpenOffice.
And one centimetre set in OOo is one centimetre on the screen (zoom 100%).

This issue is still present in OOo 3.0.1.

Let é with E9 its unicode.
OOo records FFE9 unicode instead in the odt file and on the display. That is the
bug.
With all accentuated letter, OOo adds FF code before the unicode when this
letter is the first in the rectangle for any fonts.

I calculated this bad resolution of 100 dpi as this :

An A4 page have a width of 210 mm on the screen of OOo with 63 dpi which is the
resolution given by xdpyinfo.
This same page has a real width of about 300 mm on the screen.

300*63/210 = 90 (Yes it is not 100 dpi but 90, I rounded to 100).

So I says that OOo takes a 90 dpi resolution instead of 63 dpi.

I select the printer : canoni560/BrouillonGris in printing dialogue of OOo.
This option convert colors pages in gray colors pages printing.

OOo print in colors instead of gray.

My /etc/cups/lpoptions :
Dest canoni560 CNQuality=3 CNGrayscale=False Resolution=600
Default canoni560/Brouillon CNQuality=4 CNGrayscale=False Resolution=600
Dest canoni560/Economique CNQuality=5 CNGrayscale=True Resolution=300
Dest canoni560/HauteQualite CNQuality=2 CNGrayscale=False Resolution=1200
Dest canoni560/BrouillonGris CNQuality=4 CNGrayscale=True Resolution=600

CNGrayscale was ignored by OOo (3.0beta or 2.4.0). The others parameters works
fine.

All works fine with KDE software.

Selecting another font WITHOUT confirm (the previous font of the cell is not
modified) make refreshing the display.

I was working on this issue. It exists with JRE from Sun or with Kaffe.

Yes, JMF was missing and this is the cause of the error. But I reopen this issue
because of three reasons:

1. The missing of JMF should not make a segmentation error but only an alert to
the user. This error issue is a bit dirty.
2. OOo for Linux should not require JMF that was not supplied by distribution or
by OpenOffice.org. A beginner or a not expert cannot install this on Linux. JMF
is not a free open source software.
3. Very common sound formats as MP3 or ogg are not compatible with JMF for Linux
but a lot of GPL MP3 or ogg players exist on Linux. Why is OOo not used them ?

Open writer or calc.
Open Insert special character dialogue.
Select a font with cyrillic character, for example, Arial.
I am not sure that cyrillic is important.
Browse down the characters. About the cyrillic serie, the characters are not
visible in the central frame, but in the right place it is.
Browse up the characters. All are invisible (but on the right place)!

To make reappearing character, only a selection of another font is possible.
Closing the dialogue box and reopening does not make reappear characters (but
closing OOo does it).

But insert the hidden character works fine.

Mandriva 2007.1, xfs 1.0.4.
No problem with OOo 2.4.0.

OK for the point 2 and 3, I am voting for the issue 43306. Thanks.

I am using the build from openoffice.org (french version), not from Mandriva.

For the point 1, to reproduce the crash, I rename /usr/lib/jvm* to
/usr/lib/jvm*.other. I rename /opt/JMF-2.1.1e to other name.
Launch OOo. In Options, OpenOffice.org, Java, now there is checked Free
Software Foundation, version 1.4.2, (kaffe)... But I had uninstalled kaffe
before (!?). Only JRE from Sun was installed and now deactivated.
When I click in the gallery to play a sound (.wav), OOo Mediaplayer launches and
OOo crashes with this message in the terminal :
/opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice: line 131: 10262 Erreur de segmentation
$sd_prog/$sd_binary $@
When I launches OOo again, no sent of report is asked, but a restoration of my
document is asked.

If this can help.Regards.

The value of zoom displayed on the right bottom place of the OOo window is out
of screen. It is a regression against OOo 2.4.

Some zone on the bottom of the window should be less large. This should fix this
issue. Another fixing should be alternate some zones.

Screen resolution : 800x600.

All ODT files from OOo have a Thumbnails directory containing an image called
thumbnail.png that is used by windows manager for example to display miniature
(thumbnail) of the contain of the file as in KDE or Microsoft Windows.

Decompress the ODT file created from export of HTML file with unzip on Linux for
example.
You see that this file does not contain this Thumbnail directory.

Sorry, but this issue is not fixed in OOo 2.3.1. It is reproducible always on my
system.
The screen resolution from Xorg, if this can help you to reproduce, is not
usual :

(--) RADEON(0): Display dimensions: (320, 240) mm
(--) RADEON(0): DPI set to (63, 63)

All the others applications works fine.
I reopen.

This concerns final 2.3.0.
1. Open a new spreadsheet.
2. Divide the window with window menu or with mouse. The left panel must show at
least two columns.
3. Select at least one cell in one of the panels on the right side.
4. Resize the A column to a more little size by the mouse.
A black rectangle appears in both two cells in the place of the first selected
cell.

The same defect exists with multiselected cells.

With another early settings of my system, with 800x600 screen, this problem
occur in Icewm and OOo. I think that the system font size of Icewm is in cause.
But I can reproduce easily this now in 2007.1 and OOo 2.2.1 only with 600x480.

So I have no opposition to the closing of this issue.

I have tried with M220 and Icewm from 2007.1 Mandriva and the problem still
occurs.

In 2007.1, this problem occurs only with 600x480 screen because in this release
of Icewm Mandriva distribution. This could concern other system with a little
screen.

For the menus and dialogues, OpenOffice does not manage fonts size as on the
other applications of KDE, Gnome or Icewm. In 800x600 the font size of menus and
dialogues of OpenOffice is very (too) small on my system even in the max scale
of 130% in tools menu. But it is another problem.

In OOo 2.1, VRAI gives 1 and FAUX gives 0 so the bug seems partially fixed.

Insert var1=VRAI displays 1 (standard format) and var1=FAUX displays 0, so the
logic values are correct.
But in text format, it is confused. VRAI is displayed VRAI if this is a new
insertion and TRUE if is an old insertion.

1. Open the Field insert dialogue.
2. Create a var1 variable with the value TRUE in standard mode. Insert.
Display : 1
3. If I double-click on text format,
Display : TRUETRUE
4. Again double-click on standard format,
Display : 111
5. On text format :
TRUETRUETRUETRUE
6. Clear
7. If I change the value to VRAI, double-click on standard format :
Display : 1
8. If I double-click on text format,
Display : 1VRAI
9. Again double-click on standard format,
Display : 1VRAI1
10. On text format :
1VRAI1VRAI

So in text mode TRUE keeps its boolean value, but VRAI loses its boolean value
and becomes a text only. So VRAI is not always equal to TRUE.

Instead of 63 dpi from X11 (xdpyinfo), OOo takes 100 dpi. So all documents
appears at 150% too large.

The line Xft.dpi: 63 in ~/.Xresources or in /etc/X11/Xresources fixes this
issue.

But OOo should read this value directly from Xorg or from KDE as others software
(Example : Kig).

After looking for in the sources of OOo, it seems to me that OOo understands the
value A4 and not a4 from PPD files. It is sensitive to case. However it seems to
me that the specification of Postscript from Adobe indicates a4 rather in lower
case. But in fact, I have not found that Adobe imposes any case for a4.

Thus, I reopen this issue to request a non-sensitive case for this in the PPD
OOo parser. Do I mislead me?

This issue is fixed.
My ppd, from Canon inc, was badly understood by the canon_parallel driver of my
i560 printer. So this issue is for Cups and/or for the Canon driver.

I replaced all a4 by A4 in the ppd file. So the landscape pages does not prevent
following portrait pages to print fine.

For OOo, this issue is invalid.

Thanks.

[ui-issues] [Issue 69691] double-clicking OOo files in Windows Explorer does not open them

I can reproduce this defect with MS Windows 98 when I double-click on an URL as:
\\serveur\D\alain\mon-fichier.odt. But the cause is perhaps different because an
error message is issued.

The error message of this french version is that the directory
\\serveur\D\alain\alain\mon-fichier.odt does not exist. Note the wrong path with
repeated alain. With all the others programs, the double click works fine on
this URL. Also, the settings in the registry base for the double-click
(extensions options for .odt) are correct. So the problem is from OOo. It does
not exist in OOo 1.1.5 and, I beleive, not in 2.0.2 (not sure for 2.0.2).

Opening this same URL by the File menu of OOo works fine.

Modify the language of a cell with the Format, cell, font menu from french to
none to prevent wordspell checking. Save and reopen. The language of the cell is
again french. Replacing other languages to none make the same defect.

Creating a style with a none language does not fixed the problem because the
style is not saved with this attribute but with the standard language.

Hi,
New ! 680m7, buid 9044.
  I note this behaviour :
 - Launch OOo.
 - Menu Outils, options (my french version for Tools, options.). The defect
appears: cut box.
 - Close dialog box.
 - Again open the same menu and dialog box.
And now the dialog box is whole when I drag it with the mouse. More, the other
options dialog box has now the correct behaviour and size. Dialog boxes have the
correct size until the end of the session.

So the defect appears only the first time the tools options menu is selected
after the OOo launching.
Then an other selection after closing works fine.

I hope that this help you.

Regards.

It is not as simple as I said it before.

When I open a new writer session, the defect appears again. I open, close, open,
close dialog boxes. After a number of this operations, the defect appears again,
and disappears more later. Perhaps I made an action (dragging on some location
of the screen ?) that enabled again the problem.

A MSWord document with a big picture in the page.
1. Open this document with OOo 2.0.1.
2. Save in .doc MSWord97/2000 format.
3. Close the file.
4. Reopen in OOo and the picture is become invisible. This is reproduictible
under Linux and Microsoft Windows 2000.
5. Open in MS Word 2000. The image is also invisible.

It seems that the saved image has bad dimensions with null width or null height.

I think that I do not experienced the same problem that you spoke.

On the previous attachment file, you can see that OOo 1.1.5 has a 5 over 8
formula misalignment and OOo 2.0.1 has a good formula alignment (Mandriva Linux
10.1).

I look also on Microsoft Windows 98 and the problem is exactly in the same state
as above both for the two OOo releases.

So the problem of this issue was effectively fixed on OOo 2.0.1 for all. (screen
dimensions 800x600).

Regards.

I do not understand your last answer because it seems that the problem is fixed
in OOo 2.0.1 build 8990 at least for me with fonts that I use (Linux
Mandrake/Mandriva 10.1). I saw that few minutes ago.
So, I think that the issue resolution tag should be fixed.

Thanks.

Mandrake/Mandriva 10.1 with 2.6.11-6mdk kernel. CUPS 1.1.21.
Canon i560. PPD file coming from Canon and fixed by me, follows.

The z1.* files follows.
- printing z1.odf have the problem.
- printing in a ps file have the problem and gv-3.5.8 show this file without end
(looping). This ps file seems inconsistent, without page number. In OOo 1.1.5,
same mixing between landcape and portrait, but with correct page number and
without looping.
- exporting in a pdf file by OOo-2.0 gives a fine file. Printing this pdf gives
the expected results (fine).

An example is better :
Type : UC3 max. Select with the mouse C3 characters.
Type Ctrl-Shift-b to formatting under the baseline (the opposite of putting in
exponent, mettre en indice in french language). But this action is not done !
C3 is replaced by an underlined letter B.
Then if I cancel typing Ctrl-Z, the display became wrong : a highligthed C3
appears again but the underlined B does not disappear and rest after C3. If I
scroll to hide this text and scrolled again to show this text, C3 has
disappeared. If I do this procedure again (Ctrl-Z, scrolling), the effect is the
same. Sometimes, the underlined B disappears.

With Format, character, menu, the formatting is fine.

A document have 7 pages. Only one, the 2nd, is a landscape page. Others pages
are portrait. The preview is fine, but the printing gives the page one with
portrait and all the others in landscape.

PDF files have not this defect, but PS files have it.

In the formula, 5 over 8, the 5 digit is left aligned, but 8 is center aligned.
But {5} over {8} has all its digits center aligned.

It should be preferable that the first format, 5 over 8, is center align by
default. And the format, {5 } over {8}, can do the first alignment as now.

This defect exists also on printout and pdf generated files.
