@Developers: I think there are at least 2 problems here:

1. Visibility of bookmarks (see my extension, or my previous suggestion about
inserting a little mark like the Note mark in OOo up to 2.4).

2. Unlike e.g. notes or conditional hyphens, bookmarks are not noticeable for
cursor movement or when deleting: Move the view cursor one character at a time
over some text with a note or cond. hyphen inserted, and you have to move it
once more for it (with the cursor not advancing, because it is non printing). If
you move the view cursor one character at a time over text with a bookmark
inserted, you won't have to move the cursor once extra for the bookmark.
Maybe that is the reason why it is so easy to accidentally delete bookmarks
without noticing.

Suggestion: make bookmarks visible, and their cursor behaviour like the
behaviour of notes and conditional hyphens.

As a temporary solution, I wrote an OOo Basic macro which inserts a note for
each bookmark, showing its position, name, and eventually the text at which it
is anchored.
It is published as OOo extension:
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/VisibleBookmarks

But I continue to support the request for a better solution for this old
problem...

Comparing menu items in DE with EN:

Format > "Autoformat" in DE should be "AutoKorrektur" (EN: "AutoCorrect").
Format > AutoFormat > "AutoKorrektur..." should be "AutoKorrektur Optionen..."
or something similar (EN: "AutoCorrect Options...")
Same in Extras > "AutoKorrektur..."

Suggestion:
AutoKorrektur > Optionen: "Zusammenfassen von einzeiligen Absätzen ab...": I
think "Zusammenfügen von..." is better understandable.

On OOo 3.0, a weblink in any help page containing a # opens an empty page, or
might stop the shown help page from reacting to mouse clicks.

I noticed the defect programming some help pages for an extension. Another user
also confirmed this defect, and gave steps to reproduce the defect inside OOo
help:

In the OOo help, search for the term "whitespace". It finds the page: "Data (for
XML Form Documents)". It contains an external link in this phrase:
"The sematics follow the definition at
http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema-2/#rf-whiteSpace.";
Click the link, it does not work.

Why has this issue been closed? I think the discussion has shown that there is
need to work on this issue, at least to "change the code so that the Outliner in
annotations can also be handled by our ViewCursor", as mba wrote yesterday to
Oliver.

I'd like to reopen the issue.

I'd like to support this issue, specially gudmund's improvement suggestion:
"1. Use \r for inserting a paragraph mark/paragraph break instead of \n
2. Use \n for inserting a newline/line break"
That would be a good step forward.

But I'm also convinced, as sba wrote: "The many existing issues about
Regular Expressions show that this area needs a "general rework" so that regular
expressions may become a consistent, powerful and INTUITIVE tool for the user."
- They are not yet!

BTW: I can imagine another situation (not my problem now): Suppose I create a
macro that allows users to edit one note after the other, depending on certain
conditions. This macro should be able to move the ViewCursor into a note, then
out, and into the next one...

That is what I did not find how to do, originating my first question on the
forum: "How can I move the ViewCursor into an annotation?"

In order to use the dispatcher to cut the formatted note text and paste it in
the main text, as I do with footnotes - see the first part of my code:

   oDoc=ThisComponent
   oText = oDoc.Text
   oVC = oDoc.CurrentController.getViewCursor
   fr = oDoc.CurrentController.Frame
   dispatcher = createUnoService("com.sun.star.frame.DispatchHelper")

   ...

  ' Get the footnote content.
  oFootnoteCursor = oFootnote.createTextCursor()
  oFootnoteCursor.gotoStart(False)
  oFootnoteCursor.gotoEnd(True)
  oVC.gotoRange(oFootnoteCursor,false)
  dispatcher.executeDispatch(fr,".uno:Cut","",0,Array())
  ...

I did not find any other way to transfer the formatted note content.

@mba: Sorry, I don't really understand. Does this mean that "TextRange" will be
available in OOo 3.1 or later? Or do you mean that the note's formatted content
will just not be accesible, only the string?

If you look at the code I posted in
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=12283, you
will see that I had already tried to access the note's TextRange with a
TextCursor, but doing something with it, or putting a ViewCursor in the range of
this TextCursor in order to copy the content did not work for me or other
posters. That is what I am asking for.

OOo 3 Writer provides the possibility to format text in notes (bold,
superscript...). But there seems to be no way to access the formatted note text
with the API.

My situation: In a Writer document I want to extract the content of footnotes,
textframes and notes with all formatting and put it into the main text. I could
do it with footnotes and frames, but not with notes.

I explained my need, showed my OOo Basic code and asked for help in the OO
Community Forum, see:
http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=12283. The
last answer was: "There seems no API calls for getting the formatted text
(SwXTextField has no Text property!). File an enhancement request against API
project."

I'd like to ask to provide some way to access Writer's formatted note content
with the API.

P. D.: I didn't look into Calc or other components about this issue. It might be
possible that there is the same problem as in Writer.

If there are no plans to remove this function, I'd suggest to change the help
text, deleting: "This runtime function is only provided for downward
compatibility to previous versions."
On the download page, I see that there are also OOo versions for Solaris OS.
Should that OS not be included in GetGuiType, along with Mac?

I'd like to support this request. It is far to easy to delete a bookmark without
noticing when working in the text.
How about:
1. Inserting a little yellow mark - like the note (annotation) mark in OOo 2.4
2. Inserting an option to turn on or off display of this marks
3. And making it somehow more difficult to delete bookmarks (with an optional
pop-up warning, e.g.)

I thought about testing for / or \ in file paths, but what about Mac OS?

Reading Basic Help for Shell Function, it gives an example for Windows:
  Sub ExampleShellForWin
  Shell("c:\windows\calc.exe",2)
  end sub

Any Extension should be able to test under what OS OOo is running before calling
this sub.

OOo 3.0 Basic Help says for GetGuiType Function:
"This runtime function is only provided for downward compatibility to previous
versions. The return value is not defined in client-server environments."
However, this function is needed, specially for Shell Function calls:

My extension, http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/odt2pml, calls
through the Shell Function an external Windows program. Running under Linux, the
call must include "Wine" in first place and the program as parameter; under
Windows the program must be called directly.

The only way I found to implement this is with GetGuiType. I'd like to ask that
this function be maintained in future OOo versions. Or else, what replacement
is/will be available?

BTW, I have no experience with client-server environments.
