[sw-issues] [Issue 49895] Spelling Change All does n ot account for capitalization of word
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=49895 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Jan 30 00:47:27 -0800 2007 --- Configuration: Windows XP professional SP2 Build: OpenOffice.org 2.1 I was able to reproduce the error and interestingly I noticed different behavior from the spell checker for different input. While working with different input, I also observed another error related to spell checking which I will mention shortly. Let’s go through one example. I entered the following few lines to open office writer. This boy is very goom this goom man does not work here. We picked a very goom flower. Then I right-clicked on the underlined words (here is “goom”) and select spelling (you could alternatively press F7). From the “Suggestions” list I chose “good”. Next, I pressed “Change All”. The result was as I expected. In other words all the “goom” in all three lines are now replaced with “good”. In another test, I entered the above three lines with a minor difference. That is, I changed some of the letter to capital in the word “goom”. Everything else is unchanged. Here is my input: This boy is very goom this Goom man does not work here. We picked a very gOoM flower. Similar as above, I right-clicked on the underlined words (they are “goom”, Goom and gOoM) and select spelling (again, you could alternatively press F7). From the “Suggestions” list I chose “good”. Next, I pressed “Change All”. This time the result was not as I expected. This time, pressing “Change All” , changes the first occurrences of the underlined word i.e. “goom” is replaced by “good”. The rest of the underlined words remain untouched. If I wish to correct all the underlined words, then for every one of them, I have to press “Change All” (or just press Change”). Therefore the spell checking mechanism differentiates between words that are the same but differ only in capitalized letter. In other words “goom” and “Goom” is totally two different words. When we press “Change All” replacement is done only on exact matches of the word. For example suppose we have three sentence such that the first and the second one contains “goom” and the third sentence contains “gooM”. If we press “Change All” in spell checking, only the first and second line which contains exact match, are affected. Also note that every time that we press “Change All”, “Suggestion” list changes its suggestions. Therefore if we just keep pressing “Change All” (without looking at the suggested word) we might end up with different word. This is the case I think that happened for original person who wrote the first comment, where in the last line he got a totally different word. Because he has “jook” in the last line but on the other lines he has “Jook”. He probably got a different suggestion for “jook” and without looking at the “Suggestion list” he pressed “Change All” continually, so he ended up with “nook” for “jook”. Another related error: I entered the following sentences: The old gumzy man was very happy. Gumzy man decided to leave afterward. I noticed that the word “gumzy” is underlined to indicate spelling error. Suppose I wish that this word to be recognized by the open office writer dictionary. I only need to add one word to the dictionary which is “gumzy”. On the second sentence the first letter of the word “gumzy’ is capitalized because here it happens to be the first word in the sentence. So we know they are the same. Add the word “gumzy” to the dictionary by pressing “F7” and then pressing the button ” Add to Dictionary”. I expect that now both words (“gumzy” and “Gumzy”) Not to be underlined. However I observed only the first “gumzy” is recognized (not underlined) and I have to do another adding to dictionary to the second “Gumzy”. It seems that open office writer can not recognize the same word when on of it letters is capitalized. This error does not happen in Ms-2003. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 56435] Cannot paste unformatted t ext in outline
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=56435 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Jan 30 19:48:17 -0800 2007 --- Configuration: Windows XP professional SP2 Build: OpenOffice.org 2.1 I replicated this issue in open office Impress. But I add some remarks to this issue. I also compared this issue in open office Impress and MS-PowerPoint 2003. Start Open Office Impress and create a new project. Five tabs (Normal, Outline, Notes, Handout, and Slide Sorter) are visible in the middle panel. There are 2 ways to use the feature “Paste Special”. First way is to press “Edit” from the menu bar and choose “Paste Special”. Second way is simply just hold ctrl-shift+v. As the original comment states, “Paste Special” feature is disabled when we choose “Outline” tab. This feature is active when other tabs are selected. Let’s go through one example. I have an image and I wish to have a copy of that image in my slide. Obviously, I can copy the image and paste it. But this is possible if and only if “Outline” tab is not selected. In fact, when “Outline” tab is selected and I tried to paste the image, both “Paste” and “Paste Special” is disabled. On the other hand, “Paste” is active when trying to paste plain text on the slide (while in a “Outline” tab). In summery the only thing that I’m able to paste in “Outline” tab is just simple text. I tried the same tests in MS-PowerPoint 2003 where you can “Paste” or “Paste Special” in “Outline” tab. In MS-PowerPoint 2003 the result of the “Paste” or “Paste Special” can be seen in the right main panel while choosing “Outline” tab. Since nothing other than plain text can be pasted in “Outline” tab in Open office Impress, I had to do all the pasting in other tabs where “Paste” and “Paste Special” are enabled and observe the result in “Outline” tab. Other than, it doesn’t seem be any other way to directly paste unformatted text or images in “Outline” tab. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [lingucomponent-issues] [Issue 28607] check capitalization opt ion not working
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=28607 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Jan 28 15:46:40 -0800 2007 --- Configuration: Windows XP professional SP2 Build: OpenOffice.org 2.1 This issue successfully replicated however here I add some more remarks. As the original comment states, the capitalized word in the middle of the sentence is not marked as error. For example in the sentence “I am Buying a car”, “Buying is not underlined as error. Even enabling “Check Capitalization” does not resolve the problem. I tried the same sentence in Microsoft Word 2003 where it recognizes that the capitalized word is not correct. Therefore it underlines it with green color since it is not spelling error (spelling errors are underlined with red color in Ms 2003). I also noticed that even in Ms 2003 not all words that start with capital letter in the middle of the sentence are underlined as errors. In fact, the only case that the spell check recognizes the error is when; the typing mistake is a capitalized verb (not capitalized adjective/nouns) in the middle of the sentence. For example, the sentence “He is a Shy boy” will not be recognized as error even in Ms 2003 while the sentence “I’m Wearing a black jacket.” is recognized in Ms 2003. Open office 2.1 does not recognize any capitalization error whether or not the capitalized word in the middle of the sentence is verb or something else. It is reasonable that enabling “Check Capitalization” should at least do some degree error checking (at least for verbs as in Ms 2003). I conclude/ confirm “Check Capitalization” does not do any help in recognizing capitalized word. Also for people who are unfamiliar how to access the “Check Capitalization” option and other feather just follow the following steps: 1. Press F7 when you have your open office writer open. 2. A window will pup up. Then press the “Options” button at the lower left corner. Another window will open. In the Options list you will see a few check boxes. From there find “Check Capitalization”. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 40538] Second image on page is mi ssing
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=40538 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Jan 28 18:40:52 -0800 2007 --- Configuration: Windows XP professional SP2 Build: OpenOffice.org 2.1 I observed a somewhat different problem regarding pasting an image into open office writer. I have a document in Ms 2003 which contains some images along with text. I copy entire file (including the image) and try to paste it on the open office writer. After pasting, the text appears fine. However no image is shown. Only the link to that image appears inside the empty box. If I double-click in the box, a window will pop up with some options and tabs and there I can see my image only as a thumbnail on the right hand side. Next I tied to paste an image from the different source. I copied myPic.jpg from my computer and then paste it on open office writer. This time image appears correctly. I also tried the “insert” button and form there select “Picture”. Using this approach also worked fine. Therefore I observed that only images form Ms 2003 causes the problem. This problem does not occur in Ms 2003. In other words I could to copy an image from open office writer and paste it on Ms 2003 with no problem. A possible way to work around the problem is that when pasting an image to open office writer from the Ms 2003, do not just use “ctrl-v (or maybe right-click on mouse + Paste). Instead do the following: 1. From the menu tab select Edit and select “Paste Special”. A new window will open. 2. In a new window, in the “Selection” list, selecting any of the choices (except “HTML format” or “HTML format without comments”) and then pressing “Ok” will paste your image correctly. This problem arises due to type format when copying form Ms 2003 to open office writer. Therefore by choosing a different format (using “Paste Special”) we can paste the image to the appropriate format. This problem does not exist in Ms 2003 and we do not need to use “Special Paste” when copying an image form open office writer to Ms 2003. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 14303] Copy and paste to OO Draw does not paste everything
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=14303 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Jan 20 21:12:12 -0800 2007 --- Configuration: Windows XP professional SP2 Build: OpenOffice.org 2.1 I also replicated the issue according to the steps indicated above. However I’m adding some remarks regarding the box restriction size which was not mentioned. 1. I observed that the amount of text that is copied from the “Writer” to “Draw” is being restricted. However I tried to copy from some other text editor (Notepad) to “Draw” and observed that, there is No box restriction. Consequently the box adjusted accordingly. 2. I also observed that the amount of text that is copied from the “Writer” to “Presentation” is being restricted if the selected tab is “Normal” (there are “Normal”, “Outline”, “Notes”, “Handout” and “Slide Sorter” tabs at the top left). However I copy from the “Writer” to “Presentation” but before select the “Notes” tab, No box restriction was observed and consequently the box adjusted accordingly. 3. Inserting an image to Writer will work fine except that the image might be shrunk to fit the page but no part of the image is discarded and box adjusts accordingly. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 14303] Copy and paste to OO Draw does not paste everything
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=14303 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Jan 20 22:32:23 -0800 2007 --- “Correction to my remark #2 above:” Selection the notes tab in presentation does not fix the copy function. But copying a text from other text editors (ex. Notepad) and pasting it in any tab in presentation works. I also found the following 2 ways of working around the problem: 1) After copying the text from the source (OpenOfiice.org Writer), first create a text box by clicking on the “T” button at the bottom of the page (if “T” is not visible, make it visible by clicking the small arrow sign which is first button from the right hand side of the bottom tool bar and then select “visible Buttons” , then choose “T” (Text) so it would appear in the tool bar). Then drag the mouse and create the box. After that immediately paste the text (by ctrl-v for example). After dragging and creating the box, do not click any where else since it causes the box to disappear in the destination page (OpenOfiice.org Draw). 2) Copy and paste the text as you normally do. Then if the pasted text is not complete, double click the box. Double clicking the box opens up the box as a page in the text editor. You can adjust the box dimension here easily to capture the whole text. Note that if you try to adjust the box size without double clicking, it only changes the size of the pasted text - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
