To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=103200 --- Additional comments from t...@openoffice.org Wed Sep 2 04:49:37 + 2009 --- tora -> khong: I completely agree with you from a technical point of view if we keep going in this direction. The logic, how to determine the order of the fields and how to concatenate them into a single, formatted, full name, should be moved to either locale data or configuration data. Local data http://svn.services.openoffice.org/ooo/trunk/i18npool/source/localedata/data/ Configuration data http://svn.services.openoffice.org/ooo/trunk/officecfg/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/ all: (this should be on a ML, as bluedwarf suggested, though) I would like to suggest turning a direction towards user requirements. We are developing software products at reasonable cost. Don't you think so? Implementing such complex requirements perfectly and keeping update source codes and/or locale data every time one native language project comes to ask developers to tweak its settings and testing the modifications repeatedly is highly costly. If the function -- separately specifying individual name fields -- is really mandatory, keep going with such expensive budget and make source codes much complexer and complexer. But, hold on, think again about the requirements of office suite products. What other competitive and/or similar software products possess separate name fields? Could you try to name it? Microsoft Office, Thunderbird, AutoCAD, ... as far as I know, no other software product spends their project budget for such complex name field related functions. We can develop a migration function that converts old user data prepared with previous versions of OpenOffice.org to new user data for being installed version of OpenOffice.org. Compatibility of what? How much percentage of users are currently using that? Is there no way to migrate if we remove such rarely used functions? It is software. So we can implement any requirements. But, don't forget about costs - design, development, translation, documentation, testing, updating, bug-fixing, and so on. Requirements are defined by users, which we cannot control. What we can manage is how to integrate the requirements at what cost. I think we don't need to deliver the perfect implementation, but to offer reasonable implementation. For 3.2, no further discussion would be needed if nobody realizes what this patch solves and what does not. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. What do you think, bluedwarf? IMHO, users might overestimate an outcome of this issue. They might think that reversing the positions of first and last name fields in the dialog of Tools - Options - %PRODUCTNAME - User Data will solve everything related to the order of first and last names. In reality, nothing will be solved except the one in the Tools - Options. There are many possible locations a user name will be used. E.g Author, Modified-by, and Printed-by in the File - Properties, Commenter of Insert - Notes, Editor in the Edit - Changes, Who-save in the File - Versions, ... Author displayed as one of meta data in Windows Explorer, Adobe Reader, Microsoft Office, ... Most of them come from one of the properties stored in DoucumentInfo http://api.openoffice.org/docs/common/ref/com/sun/star/document/DocumentInfo.html and/or XDocumentProperties http://api.openoffice.org/docs/common/ref/com/sun/star/document/XDocumentProperties.html The property 'Author' is just a single string. So why do we need to input first, last, given, family, father, mother, middle, etc. names separately? Supporting all possible types of name fields depending on a target culture determined by a type of user interface language would be one of the solutions like this issue. Meanwhile, Putting them into a single text field regardless of the target culture would be also one of the solutions. The latter is the issue 104143. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Some of motivations are: - Major file formats such as ODF, OOXML, and PDF do not keep parts of author's name separately, they keep an author's (creator's) name as a single text. - Implementing various naming formats in a proper order of individual fields depending on a locale of UI could be costly. I currently think we could make source codes of OpenOffice.org related to a user name much simpler to some extent as long as the codes can fulfill the requirements of the major file formats. Off the topic: As far as I know, many professional users in Japan using OpenOffice.org in the following way despite Japanese translations of UI to practically live with a current implementation of OpenOffice.org: - Fill a first name field with their family name. - Fill a last name field with their given name. The way above has completely solved a problem of the order issue if they intentionally ignore the translations in the UI without waiting for a real resolution. Their family name (i.e. first name) will be displayed prior to their given name (i.e. last name) everywhere in OpenOffice.org as they expect. So there might be lots of existing ODF files in Japan with first and last names in a reverse order. We, however, would have no practical solutions for the wrongly created ODF files. What we could have learned from the reality would be to solve this type of cultural issues as soon as possible to prevent further abuse of UI. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. A user can use it through StrConv macro function. In the section "Implicit type conversion" above, Implicit type conversion from byte string to Unicode string and vice versa is also implemented. Its byte order in this implementation is little endian regardless of type of processor on which OpenOffice.org is running. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=100953 Issue #|100953 Summary|Basic macro functions: StrConv, LeftB, LenB, MidB, and | RightB Component|scripting Version|DEV300m41 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|NEW Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|PATCH Priority|P3 Subcomponent|code Assigned to|kr Reported by|tora --- Additional comments from t...@openoffice.org Wed Apr 8 12:35:32 + 2009 --- This is an experimental implementation of OpenOffice.org/StarOffice Basic macro functions: - StrConv - LeftB - LenB - MidB - RightB Algorithm To share algorithms of the existing Unicode string functions - Left, Len, Mid, and Right - with corresponding byte string functions - LeftB, LenB, MidB, and RightB -, this implementation employs C++ templates. That is, one algorithm is used by both String and ByteString classes. Code conversion Conversion between Unicode string and byte string is implemented in the StrConv function. It can take either Unicode and byte strings, convert it, and return converted string. Todo: A type of character encoding is automatically determined with the operating system's default encoding. E.g. It would be - CodePage 932 on Windows Japanese - UTF-8 on Solaris/Linux with LANG=en_US.UTF-8 There might be demands to allow macro programmers to explicitly specify a type of character encoding. Calculation Concatenation and comparison of byte strings are also implemented. An attempt of concatenating or comparing a Unicode string with byte one is resulted in an error. Implicit type conversion Implicit type conversion from byte string to Unicode string and vice versa is also implemented. The byte order is tuned for x86/x64 processors. Implicit type conversion from byte string to one of the basic types such as integer, and versa is also preliminarily implemented. It converts a byte string into Unicode string first and then utilizes a type conversion method from Unicode string to the basic type. Todo: All possible combinations of original type and destination type are not covered yet. The rest of the combinations should be implemented, if needed. Example scenario: 1. One buggy module mistakenly overwrites a part of heap area with own data. 2. Another module calls malloc() through System Abstraction Layer to get an allocated memory from the heap area. 3. malloc() internally locks a resource before manipulating the area. 4. A segment violation, SIGSEGV, occurs due to accessing to the polluted area. 5. In a signal handler, some potentially danger functions are used to create a crash dump. 6. For instance, the first use of fprintf() triggers to get a buffer by calling __flsbuf() normally declared in /usr/include/stdio.h . 7. __flsbuf() internally calls malloc(). 8. malloc() internally tries to lock a resource, but the resource has been already locked by itself before. Consequently, the signal handler falls into dead-lock. No error report regarding the buggy module would be submitted. When using fopen() or fdopen(), setbuf() could be called to specify an own buffer. e.g. (current) FILE *fp = fopen( filename, "r" ); sal_uInt8 buffer[4096]; nBytesRead = fread( buffer, 1, sizeof(buffer), fp ); (proposal) char _buffer[BUFSIZ]; FILE *fp = fopen( filename, "r" ); setbuf(fp, _buffer); sal_uInt8 buffer[4096]; nBytesRead = fread( buffer, 1, sizeof(buffer), fp ); When using rtl_uString or rtl_String, be careful to use them, e.g. (current) rtl_uString *ustrCommandArg = NULL; osl_getCommandArg( argi, &ustrCommandArg ); (proposal) ... I have no practical idea at this moment ... [sc-issues] [Issue 95405] [Collaboration] Spreadshee t Collaboration Through Workbook Sharing seems not to work on UNIX
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=95405 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Oct 27 16:41:11 + 2008 --- For this issue, one of the ideas: Step 6) File / Close Expectation: File permission is appropriately set so that the file can be shared. This could be done by a user, not by OpenOffice.org. It could be better that OpenOffice.org shows a dialog window notifying that granting a write permission properly by hand will be needed to share the document file among other users. It, however, might not be mandatory for right upcoming release. Step 13) chmod a+w /tmp/.~sharing.test.ods# This could be implemented by the following instructions: - Obtain a set of permission bits of the base document file. - Open a file named ".~sharing." + file name + "#" in write mode. - Write something to the file. - Close it. - Apply the set of permission bits same as its base document file to the hidden file. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
