I do not know what you really mean. You can already create a table of contents, which is only build-up by user defined paragraph styles. afaict, TOC workd only on 'outline' paragraphs. We need a parallel mechanism that produces a 'List of Figures' which is exactly like a TOC, but for 'Figure 1', 'Figure 2' etc. Ditto for 'List of Plates' (based on paragraph formats for 'Plate 1', 'Plate 2' etc. These lists are separate from the TOC, but would be formatted similarly. Bear in mind that some books number Plates (usually pictures) in a numbering system that is *outside* Chapter numbering, while others number them inside chapters. - The ability to have sub-figures (eg. It is determined from the inheritance of the counters. (g) Add a 'Numbering Format' setting to the paragraph style to set the format of the current level. I have recently been battling with lists and sub-lists and see the same confusion and duplicated behaviours that we used to have with headings -- resulting in lists that disappear, reapper, get numbered badly etc. For the most part this is not OOs fault, it is the natural result of copying a UI from a really badly designed work processor (Word). Building on what is already in OO, it would be great to see the following: - extend 'Number Range' fields to have an optional parent 'Number Range'. Incrementing the parent would reset the child. - extend paragraph styles to include a 'Numbering Field' for numbering that behaves like 'Outline Numbering' does now (perhaps a checkbox for 'Include in Outline'). to clarify the last part: It is also not possible to open existing writer
document by double-clicking on them; the swriter process starts but never
presents a UI. Eventually, I get the error dialog that I have reported
separately.
Other than the generic error dialog (no error message), the only error message I

When working with two documents (A & B, say) it is good to be able to import the
styles and make document A look like document B; the 'Load Styles' dialog almost
acheieves this.
The menu item Tools->Options->Compatibility contains numerous settings that also
affect the appearance of a document. It would be great if these could also be
imported as part of the 'Load Styles' process.
