Hello,

I tried this on windows XP Professional in Openoffice.org Calc 2.0 RC2. I
works for me. When I am in edit mode within a cell, I can use the left button
or CTRL + left button to move the text caret.

Please check if the person that reported this at the mailing list was using an
older version of Calc. Could you also look if this problem is found if you
upgrade to the latest version?

Awaiting your response.

Hello dwiniecki ,

Thanks for providing the document.

The problem however is that..

1. I can't open the document in Microsoft Word 2002. Word asks for a
conversion program that I don't have installed at my work (and I don't have
administrator privileges to install it).

2. I also can't open the document in Openofficeorg Writer 2.0. When I select
the file to be opened in Writer a "Filter Selection" pops up.
Does this happen on your build? If so, what option should I choose?

I can therefore not verify at the moment if the select all command only
selects the table of contents.

Hello,

My comments above have been inappropriate for this Issue, since I used the
drawing function in Writer in stead of the Draw application. Clumsy of me.

I can confirm this on Openoffice.org Draw 2.0 RC2 (windows XP professional)
with the document that Sukender has attached. When pasting the larger box in a
new document it changes the style of the text within the box.

Hello travelclarkie,

I can confirm this on Openofficeorg Writer 2.0 RC with Windows XP
Professional. The same word in lower case is not replaced by the same word
with capitals.

But this seems to be a duplicate of Issue 2838. I tried replacing a word
(example = any) with a completely other word (example = thing) by using the
autocorrect function and it works for me when I set the "replacements and
exceptions for language" list on English (USA).

However. it does NOT work if I set the language to Dutch.

Could someone check this?

Hello hte,

I just tried copying/pasting with OpenOfficeorg Writer 2.0 RC2 (PC, Windows XP
Professional, English) and I can create a loop:

1. Open a new standard .odt document in writer
2. Type "thisisatest" . No spaces.
3. Select the text with the keyboard command "CTRL + A"
4. Copy the text with the keyboard command "CTRL + C"
5. Paste a couple of lines (6) with the keyboard command "CTRL + V"
6. Copy those six lines again and paste them the same way

Expected Result: Pasting can go on "forever"

However the pasting stops at page 11 or 12 and it is not possible to enter
anymore text in the document.

If this is the case, then this is a duplicate of ISSUE 17171.

I agree with allsorts46 (last comment in ISSUE 17171) that:
"At the very least, Writer should not allow any actions that would cause this
to happen, and present an error and explanation to the user. Simply 'losing'
the text is unnaceptable."

Regards,

A.Y.K. Jong

Hello,

I tried this on OpenOfficeorg Writer 2.0 RC2 (Windows XP Professional, PC, 1.6
GHZ, 512 MB RAM) but could easily select all text using the keyboard command (
CTRL + A). Only if I position the cursor within the table of contents does the
select all command result in a selection of the table only.

Coould you provide the document you used so I can check against my build?

Thanks in advance,

Hello cjwrhw,

I can confirm that the Letter template is missing in OpenOfficeorg Writer 2.0
RC2. There are also other templates (like CV) missing.

This has already been reported in a ENHANCEMENT issue 42127.

I am therefore resolving this issue as a duplicate.

Hello Vytis,

I tried the steps (First way) that you describe on my PC (1.6 GHz, 512 MB RAM)
with Windows XP Professional using the OpenOfficeorg Writer 2.0 RC2, but I
cannot reproduce the crash.

Could you attach the .sxw file you use so I can test the second way that you
describe?

Hello ezequiel,

Does the showing of non-printing characters work on your build and machine if
you go to:

menu Tools --> Options --> OpenOffice.org Writer --> Formatting aids

and from there enable the item "Hidden text".

This should display text that uses the character format "hidden", when View-
Non-printing Characters is enabled.

While searching through Issue tracker found a couple of Issues that could be

This because if I paste the document provided when my Writer is default in

Hello,

While searching the Issue database for something else with the bibliography I
found that there are a lot of duplicates of this issue dating back to 2003.

Shivan... I suggest you set this Issue as a DUPLICATE of ISSUE 18595, 50622,
29705 if you agree with me. I added a comment of ISSUE 18595 for clarification.

--- Additional comments from dnw Sun Aug 24 17:10:09 -0700 2003 ---

This is a design fault, or lack of expected action. When you insert
a bibliographic reference from the database it is copied into the
document but no link is kept to the database entry. Each time you
insert an entry a new copy is made.

If you need to change a bibliographic entry you need can click on
the reference eg [dnw2000] and select edit, make the changes to the
fields. Click OK. You must then select Modify, if you select Close
your changes will be lost.

If you now update the Bibliographic table the changes will be shown.

Also, you will have to make the same change to the bibliographic
database (there is no automatic link)

More bad news, if you have a large document with many references to
a single document, you need to make the changes to each reference !

It would if fact be easier to open the save file and do a search and
replace on the required text.

We have noted these problems and we are currently redesigning the
whole bibliographic system.

If this really annoys you please help us find some developers.

I will make this issue as a duplicate of our head Bibliographic
Project Issue, as it is about the same thing - Redesign Required !

*** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 4260 ***

Regards,

A.Y.K. Jong

Hello,

Not confusing at all :)

I tried this on my comp (1.6 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, PC, Windows XP Professional, Ooo
Writer 2.0. RC), and realised that there seems to be (indeed) no connection
between the bibliography database and the entries in a document.

This indicates that a change in a database entry is not processed in the
corresponding document entry (like you said).

Here's the step by step procedure I did to reproduce this issue:
1. Go to menu Insert--> Indexes and Tables --> Bibliography Entry to Add an
entry from bibliography database
2. Go to menu Insert --> Indexes and Tables --> Indexes and Tables
3. In the "insert Index/table" dialogbox tab "Index/table":
   select type bibliography
4. Click OK and Bibliography will appear

5. Open bibliography through menu Tools --> Bibliography database
6. Change title of the database entry that's in the document
7. Update bibliography by rightclicking the bibliography in the text and
selecting "Update Index/table"

Result: The changes in the database are not processed in the bibliography
index in the text

It was expected that the entry in the document would change according to it's
corresponding entry in the database but it doesn't.

Regards,

A.Y.K. Jong

P.S. ES, Are we not dealing with two issues here ?
 1. Delete button not in dialogue box "Insert bibliography entry"
 2. No connection between "bibliography entry in text" and "bibliography
entry in database"

Hello,

This is confirmed on Openofficeorg Writer 2.0 RC, although the "current
selection nly" is now greyed out (see attached document).

Should'nt this be a P5 (and not a P2) priority, since it is a "slightly
inconsistent user interface"?

Hello,

I reproduced this on the OpenOfficeOrg Writer 2.0 RC build (Windows XP
Professional, P4, 1.6. GHz, 512 MB RAM).

Backspacing the first line of a piece of text with a user defined style that
has a first line indentation set, causes the indenting to jump to the left
margin.

Automatic first line indenting (which negates user defined first line
indenting) works as described by jslyster:

Quote
"It seems to me the proper behavior would be to back the paragraph up one line
to the previous line, making it part of the previous paragraph. This is not
what happens."

It would seem that user defined first line indenting would respond the same
way.

Hello,

That is the worst.. to lose a file which a lot of time and effort is spend on.
This issue should be marked as a feature or enhancement on the "save document"
functionality so it can be implemented and does not happen again.

Hello,

I could reproduce this on my 1.6 GHz PC Windows XP Professional (OpenOfficeOrg
Writer 2.0 RC). The large box in the provided file (testdraw.sxd) changes from
ARIAL 20 pt to ARIAL 18 pt on my machine when pasted in a new document

But.. I wonder if this is a bug or just part of the way Open Office Writer
handles drawings i.e. in Writer the text within the drawing (rectangle) does
not use styles (the styles button in Stylist window are greyed out when
selecting text in drawing --> see Issue 5 Greyed out.jpeg), but has it's
own styling properties (rightclick within the drawing and a menu appears with
FONT, TYPEFACE, SIZEING properties).

So I am thinking .. on what grounds does the style of a drawing change when
copying from one document to another?

I hope this helps.

A.Y.K. Jong

Pls send more info on this. What did you copy/paste and what did the document
contain. Does it also happen in Ooo 2.0 RC?

Hello,

Thanks.

I tested this on my work PC (windows XP Professional edition, 1.6 GHZ, 512 MB
RAM) and found that in MS Word the provided sample.doc contains 2 pages, but
in OpenOffice Writer 2.0 RC the sample.doc has 3 pages.

Something with the outlining/numbering goes wrong?

In MS Word I read "1. Projektin eteneminen". In Writer it's "8. Projektin
eteneminen".

Checked this issue out. Using character style in stead of paragraph style
allows changes to individual sentences that don't effect the whole text.

Sorry!

Hello,

I tried this on a windows XP Professional Edition P4 1.6 GHz 512 MB RAM PC.
With the first method I could reproduce the bug (Tab could no longer be used
to change the level of the style, etc).

But when pasting a text in the I, II, III or A, B, C outline I found it
possible to still use the tab or "apply style" command to change the style
level.
But pasting a text into the 1, 2, 3 outline showed the bug.

Also seen this on my machine (windows XP sp2). Doing a search/replace of a
word works, but at the end OOo Writer asks:

"OpenOffice.org Writer has searched to the end of the document. Do you want to
continue at the beginning?"

When clicking YES it says "Search Key not found".

Writer does go to the beginning IF the cursor is placed after the first word
that you want to replace. That first word is not changed.

Hello,

What kind of lines are in de text.doc. Could you attach it to the issue? Is it
like the styles that are used in MS Word, do not appear in Writer .. or vice
versa?

Hello,

Changes in a sentence in a paragraph from style default to style definition
effects whole paragraph.

Tested on:
OS: Windows XP (in networked environment Windows 2003 server; in home
standalone environment, SP2)
Hardware: P4 1.6 GHz; P3 800 MHz
Open Office 2.0 (RC)

Steps to reproduce this:
1. Make style DEFINITION(Font: Times New Roman, Typeface: Cursive, Size: 12)
2. Highlight part in text ("as any event or outcome which could have reduced,
or did reduce the safety margin for the patient. It may or may not have been
preventable and may or may not have involved an error on the part of the
healthcare team") and change style from DEFAULT to DEFINITION

Expected result: Only highlighted text changes

Result was that the whole paragraph changes from style DEFAULT to DEFINITION.
I could be wrong and this is can actually be controlled by modifying the style
in such a way that it only affects the sentence that is selected. In MS Word I
this happens in that way.

Whole text used:

>From the literature study it appeared that there are many taxonomies for
undesired events [1,5]. Different terms are used, varying from ‘complication’
[6] to ‘adverse event’ [7] and from ‘human error’ [8] to ‘critical incident’
[9], each with a specific definition and context. Before being able to
determine the most applicable one, we defined the main goal of the registry
as ‘to estimate and detect patterns in the occurrence and severity of
undesired events’: data that might lead to effective interventions. An
expected side effect of implementing the registry is the increased awareness
of ICU personnel for patient safety. In order to gain insight in the overall
situation regarding unwanted events, a broad definition is required having no
strict limitation as to what to report. Therefore, we finally opted for the
term incident, defined by the Australian Incident Monitoring System in
Intensive Care (AIMS-ICU) as any event or outcome which could have reduced, or
did reduce the safety margin for the patient. It may or may not have been
preventable and may or may not have involved an error on the part of the
healthcare team [10].
Considering that according to this definition a planned, preventive operation –
causing a significant increase of the risk on complications, hence reducing
the safety margin for the patient- would also be an incident, we extended the
first part of the definition to any undesired or unintended event or outcome
[6].

Regards,

A.Y.K. Jong
