To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=93761 --- Additional comments from ckoc...@openoffice.org Sun Jun 6 01:51:28 + 2010 --- I was able to partially replicate this bug. Here are the different file types, operating systems and open office versions that were tested while attempting to replicate this bug: OO 3.3 XP AVI - works Ouicktime movie - did not work ( movie taken from a digital camera, sound too), format type not supported divx - works mp4 - music file, format type not supported mkv - dvd movie, format type not supported OO 3.2 OSX 10.5 mov - digital camera movie with sound, crashed OO when trying to resize it. Stop trying to resize, works mp4 - works avi - works wma - music video, format type not supported mp3 - works OO 3.2 ubuntu 10.04 avi - works mpg - works flv - works mp3 - works The steps that were followed in the testing of each type: 1: Open a new presentation in Impress 2: Select Insert menu and click on movie and sound 3: Locate and select the file to be inserted 4: Wait and check the result of the media being added into the presentation I believe much of this issue is related to Open Office simply not supporting every possible codec that could be used in media playback. However some of the common types did not work on some systems, for instance wma worked on Windows XP but not on OSX but everything worked on Ubuntu 10.04. This could be due to third party libraries that Open Office is dependent upon for rendering the media. However I do not posses significant knowledge of how Open Office renders its media and if it relies upon any system specific libraries. For follow up testing to perhaps narrow the scope on this bug even more a useful test would be to test specific codecs on each of the systems to understand exactly which one is not being implemented or is inconsistently working on different platforms. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. AFAIk you have to install Java Media Framework. That seems to be not trivial. With the OOo version delivered with linux are no problems. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. However, see the snapshop Sound Inserted 2.jpeg- the icon is see as a black rectangle. Scenario # 2: Video (Movie) 1. InsertMovie and SoundInsert a Movie file. I inserted a Video Clip (.avi) file. [See the snapshot- Movie Inserted 1.jpeg] Observe that the movie icon is displayed as a black rectangle in slide. 2. Go to SlideShow and then hit the movie icon. Observe that the file plays this time but only the sound is heard. Refer Movie Inserted 2.jpeg- the icon is see as a black rectangle. Scenario # 3: Movie and Sound 1. They all play media in OO2.4.1 consistently without problems. Despite having identical settings in Tools-options-java-classpath, in OO3.1 rc1 they behave differently regarding the reported Problem: Two systems show the described error messages (and additionally dont't play videos at all, show erratic behaviour on loading older presentations containing media - sometimes freeze, sometimes just don't play). One system doesn't play videos inserted by insert- Movie and Sound but plays the sound. This system plays videos inserted by insert-object-video but just once. Upon inspection of the content.xml file of the presentation I find that in OO3.0 insertion by Insert-movie and sound the mime type is stated as : draw:mime-type=application/vnd.sun.star.media (on the system that allows insertion at all but doesn't play the video) and that a video that is played once and had been inserted by insert-object-video the object is stated as : draw:mime-type=video/mpeg (on the very same system that plays videos inserted by that method once) Since you requested that, I will attach an mpg-video that -when inserted- resulted in this behaviour - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
