It is more complicated than I guessed : I can open the WordSampleWithCheckboxes.doc file with OOo 3.2 and it shows the checkbox which is checked. But, check the unchecked checkbox, leave the other unchanged and save the file under another name in the same 97/2000/XP format, then we obtain something interesting : - opening the file with OOo : both checkboxes look unchecked - opening the file with MS-WordViewer : the first checkbox is checked (ok) but the second is unchecked (not ok) !!! The data are not lost as you can see with MS-Word Viewer, but Writer is not able to make them visible. It is impossible to collaborate via MS Word forms, or to fill out any forms that are sent to me in MS Word format (which practically all forms come as). It is very unprofessional for me to say "sorry I use OpenOffice, please don't expect me to be able to fill out your MS Word form"... but that is what I have to do. I use OpenOffice Writer 3.1. Checked boxes saved in an odt-format-saved .doc document are no longer checked when I re-open the document in OO Writer. Furthermore, if my collaborator opens the document in MS Word, checks boxes, and then sends it back to me, when I open her saved edits in OO Writer, all boxes are unchecked, and single boxes that she had checked and saved are replaced by double (side-by-side) empty boxes. But when I use OOo 3.0 or 3.1 and do the same (open, change and "save as" in word format), the checked boxes are back to neutral when I read the new word document with OOo writer.
