In step 9 we should mention that the user can switch on View>Field Names temporarily to see where the Next Record field goes. 2. Step 12 does not insert the selected records but a random subset of those, in a DEV300m34. This worked before-->feature is broken, must submit an issue. 3. Step 13 when you choose to print, you will see the Mail Merge dialog. When you just print from that dialog, it doesn't respect your previous selection of records but prints all records. When you again select some records, it only prints a random selection of those. May be the same issue as above. ufi->hi: are these known issues with form letters/mail merge? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Some illustrations would be fine, even a video tutorial would be welcome. AFAIR, there are (have been) some problems with skipping one record whenever the next page is started. I cannot find a help page "how to make labels" but I only find the guides "Creating and Printing Labels and Business Cards" and "Printing Address Labels". The guide "Creating and Printing Labels and Business Cards" (/text/shared/guide/labels.xhp) describes it using only the dialog of "File > New > Label". I have used it and it works as described and correct. The guide "Printing Address Labels" (/text/shared/guide/labels_database.xhp) produces some problems: In step 9 you will see nothing in the document. Therefore you might think, that the operation was not successful and you will repeat it, resulting in more than one "next record" field. Or you have input the field at a wrong place as it has happened in the attached document; but you do not see, where you have input it. Perhaps there should be the advise to temporarily enable View > Field names. Step 12 "Data in fields" shows the data instead of the field names, but you get only one page and it is not clear, whether your document still contains fields or whether the fields are replaced by the data. If you follow the advice to choose "yes" in step 13, then you are forced to select the data once more, otherwise the option "all" will really print all, not only those, which are selected in step 12. If you choose "no", you will only get the first page of the selected data. An additional problem is, that starting with File > New > Labels in step 1, you might add fields in that dialog, because you see that on the first page or there are already field entries, because you have used the dialog before. I do not know, whether the behavior in step 12/13 is correct. If it is correct, then this issue is primarily a documentation issue and should be reassigned then. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The Oo that I use is fresh from Oo their files even updated it. 0030M9 The files were generated this afternoon. They can be repeated time nad time again. The Oo that I have does not have a Labels Wizard. Wizards are Letter, Fax, Agenda, Presentation, Web, Document and Euro Convertor and finally Address Data Source. No Labels. The database is Mysql with jdbc connector. I am well aware of how I can distort what Oo presents to make a silk purse from a sows ear but I was hoping to make Oo easier to use. The help notes referred to are those that are revealed if you click on help or press F1. You then rummage until you find 'how to make labels'. I worked through these help notes to the bitter end and that produced the fault that I describe. After File > New > Label I do not consider myself to be in a Wizard but I do expect the help notes to enable me to produce labels without taking any actions that are not detailed in the notes. The system that does produce labels is to follow the so called 'Wizard' until you have inserted the Fields into the label, inserted the data into the fields, F4, and then press the print button. If you follow the Help Notes you will lose data because when you do as the help notes suggest and insert fields you inadvertently add 'Next' which is a dropped record. Hopefully you will find a grain of sense in the above and I will have answered your questions. martin - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I understand, that you use the wizard "File > New > Label". When the wizard is finished you need nothing else but print. What do you mean with "add View > Data to the document"? What "help notes" do you refer to? Why do you insert additional fields? All needed fields will be inserted by the label wizard. It seems to me that you mix up creating a mail merge template with the wizard and creating a mail merge template manually. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. You should have two files. Datadocument.odt; This was produced by File > New Document > Labels Labels Data Added and Composed > Label Formatted Synchronisation not added/needed. If View > Data is added to this document it prints correctly without dropping any labels. If you go on to process this file following the Help notes; Block in (Select all that you need) the Data. Insert > Fields > Other. View > Data Fields. You now get attachment Datadocument1.odt and this has acquired 'Next'. I think that this 'Next' is the cause of the missing label.
