[AMRadio] AM Video
Jim thanks for the link to the AM video from 20 years ago. I am watching it now. Opening sequence is cool with all the senior Collins models, but what's the first actual rig we see? An FT-757, and who's he talking to? A guy talking about junior Collins tabletop models that don't do AM !!! ARRGH. Alright, I'm open to improvment, let's see __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! [AMRadio] Looking for a restoration project
Hello I am looking for a restoration project. Something between a Valiant and a KW-1 (quite a range, huh?). I want to do a down to bare chassis strip and rebuild. The ideal candidate would be a Globe King 500 or Johnson 500 but I would be interested in other suggestions. Do you have a rusted hulk languishing in the corner of your basement, crying out to once again make RF? Thanks 73, Theo K4MO www.qsl.net/k4mo

I still have my VHS copy from 20 years ago, too. I most recently watched it with a friend (W1UJR) a couple of years ago. -Larry/NE1S Jim candela writes: Hi All, My son Paul just transferred the old SPAM (Society for the Preservation of Amplitude Modulation) VHS video tape to a digital AVI file. This was circulated to me by the late Floyd Dunlap, WA5TWF. The video was produced by Dave Ramser KG6AB and Norm Scott WB6TRQ. This video was very well done. I really enjoyed the interview with Mr. EF Johnson. My copy was on a 20 year old tape recorded on low speed so the quality is a bit lacking, and a high degree of video compression results in a noticeable lip-sync offset.

Re: [AMRadio] Collins 20V-3 for sale
You missed the point, entirely. WHY go -there- in the first place, with the sarcasm, and personal attacks on a fellow ham, because YOU miscontrued the posters original intent? Do you just assume that everyone has a bone to pick with you, so you just lash out, without conversing about what the orignal intent of the message was, first? What has happened to Hams being 'gentleman' towards each other? Certainly, not everyone can agree with everyone, all the time (what a boring place this would be, if -that- were to happen!) but what has happened to having respect for not only fellow humans, but for our fellow hams, in a *very* minor slice of humanity? This small peice of advice will do us -all- a bit of good, if we heed it... Lighten up. -- 73 = Best Regards, -Geoff/W5OMR Bob Maser wrote: I apologize for my comments. I thought that they were going to an individual, not the entire group. Thanks for pointing it out to me. Bob, The KW-1 sold for $3850 in 1952, so to me a cherried out and converted 20V3 for $3000 in 2006 does not seem unreasonable. See the link below: http://www.radioing.com/collins/tx03.html I have to say though that it bothers me a lot when I see sarcasm, and angry responses being exchanged on this reflector. Do we really have to go there? Regards, Jim Candela WD5JKO

My copy was on a 20 year old tape recorded on low speed so the quality is a bit lacking, and a high degree of video compression results in a noticeable lip-sync offset. I just wish I had a better copy to digitize. This file is over 50 mega-bytes long, so a high speed connection is required to download this file. It should open up with Real Player as-is if it is your default viewer. If your preferred viewer is Media player, you will need to download the DivX Codec to make that work. To install the Codec for Windows Media player, go to www.divx.com, download DivX play6.1, and then when installing choose just the Codec. I use Firefox Mozilla as my browser, and it allows me to download files to a specific directory. Depending on your computer, and situation, it might be better to use a FTP program to download this file like we do for BAMA. RE: [AMRadio] Re: 1986 AM Ham-radio Video
Larry, Maybe your tape has is a better reproduction than the one I have of the SPAM video. VHS as I recall is 640 X 480 whereas what I posted was 320 X 240 resolution. If you got a decent copy, maybe somebody can convert that to a VCD or DVD for those that want better quality video? Anybody think about making a AM new video in 2006? RE: [AMRadio] Re: 1986 AM Ham-radio Video
Jim, Not quite. All NTSC encoded video is essentially 320 x 240 and VHS with its AM color under system makes it even worse because of color artifacts in the luminance. 640 x 480 which is a SMPTE and ITU standard is only possible with RGB component systems where no NTSC encoding has taken place. Because of the non locked color under system of VHS no improvement of significance is possible in any digitizing or upconverting system. In fact digitizing noisy video usually makes the noise noticeably worse because of bit uncertainly in the least significant bits. Re: [AMRadio] Looking for a restoration project
I have a 1948 two-story Globe Champion that is too big for to move around. Runs an 812 in the final, with four 6L6 modulators. Uses four plug-in coils for each band. Covers 160M with plug-in padder cap, which is included. Won't need much in restoration, but a good clean-up would be in order. 73, Barrie, W7ALW

Don, are you using Windows Media Player, or WinAmp? If Winamp won't play the avi, try opening the file with Windows Media Player and see if that works. Or vice-versa.
