Many months ago I posted on the list that I had an RCA BTA-5T to get rid
of.

A few people responded, but after a crashed drive, I've lost names, etc.
So here we go again..

I have to get rid of our good old BTA-5T.
It's absolutely free, BUT you have to remove it from the building.
And I've now been presented with a May 1st deadline.

The 5T is a 5KW/1KW switchable rig with 3 phase power.

The rig is in operating condition, currently tuned to 910 kc.
Until recently, I've run it for an hour every few months or so.
There is a single 5762 in the PA.
This one has been modified with 3CX2500 modulators (by WD8DAS of this
list

when he was C.E. here)

I found a link to this information sheet on the National Radio Club site
http://www.nrcdxas.org/articles/bta5t/

If you're interested, contact me via email.
Or if you're REALLY interested call me at 717-515-0607

It would break my heart to get to the point of cutting the old girl up.
I grew up listening to it.
Won't someone give it a good home?

I just built a Zepp antenna with tuned feeders: length of antenna is
247

feet with 45 feet of feedline using 5 inch spreaders.

Why am I getting more antenna current in one lead than the other? I
inserted an RF meter in each feedline before the antenna tuner. I
believe
that the current was about 1.5 and 1.7 R.F. ampere respectively at
3.870

[AMRadio] FS: SX-115, Boatanchor Test Gear, Teletype TU’s, HP 8640B

2007-04-16 Thread Don Merz
For Sale. All prices plus actual insured shipping
cost.

Hallicrafters SX-115 receiver. Nice looking, though
the cabinet top has some paint scuffs that my or may
not polish off. Front panel is excellent. No visible
modifications. Makes noise, receives signals, but I
did not check all bands or alignment or do any
detailed testing so it is offered here as-is. $1449

AEA MBA-RO Morse-Baudot-ASCII reader, with original
manual & Wall wart. This is the one that has the
rolling LED readout like the times square news sign.
Speed adjustable in all modes. Compact unit in
excellent condition. $69

IRL FSK-1000 Teletype TU s/n 79-155. Nice FSK
demodulator, variable shift, variable tones, meters to
show mark and space receive intensity. Excellent
condition in every respect. With manual photocopy. $69

Heathkit IM-21 RMS AC VTVM and DB Meter. Needs a
slight cleaning to look very good or excellent.
Working as designed. $29

Simpson 467 DMM. Classic, compact indestructible
Simpson DMM with LCD readout. Runs on a single 9V
battery. S/n74078. 1984 vintage DMM with all the usual
functions. Overload protection but no auto-ranging.
With original probes and carrying case. This is the
military version AN/PSM-45--identical to the civilian
version except for the moulded plastic case it comes
in with a military tag on it. With manual photocopy.
$40

Millen Grid Dip Oscillator s/n A293. Workbench grid
dipper with 7 plug in coils. Covers 1.7 300mc using 7
Standard coils. But this one also has the 47604 LF
coil (300 600kc) & the metal coil rack. Very good or
excellent cosmetic and working condition. With manual
photocopy. $99

Jones Micro Match 262 power meter and SWR bridge with
inline coupler. Early RF power meter and SWR bridge
with inline coupler. Highly accurate. Versions were
resold under the Collins brand name. Covers .5-225
Mhz. Looks good. Working as designed. $29

HP 8640B Signal Generator. HP 8640B Signal Generator.
Modern, solid state, high-accuracy workbench signal
generator good to 1Ghz (with doubler option which is
installed in this one). The 8640B has become THE
standard hobbyist signal generator much like the
earlier HP 606A was for tube-era test gear. This unit
looks very good or excellent and works fine except for
FM mode which does not work. It has the original
operating and service manuals in a hefty 3-ring
binder. $275

Thanks for looking.

RE: [AMRadio] RCA BTA-5T Transmitter

2007-04-16 Thread Robert A. Poff
The biggest restriction in the 5T is the plate supply.
It will easily make at least 5.4 KW (our TPO), but I've heard some guys
Complain about theirs not being able to make those 115-120% peak positives.

As to the 5F. completely different animal.

The one that I've seen (WORK now WOYK) came with the plate and mod
transformers for the 10F.
All you had to do was drop in another 892R, and tuning.

Re: [AMRadio] SX-99 Mute

2007-04-16 Thread Bill Smith
Put a t/r relay in the antenna, and switch the speaker. Remember to switch
in a resistor load in place of the speaker. I think the SX-99 has 500 ohm
and 8 ohm outputs, you might bridge a 680 ohm resistor across the receiver's
high impedance terminals.

You should be feeding the receiver's 300 ohm balanced antenna input with a
balun. You will enjoy a noticeable reduction in noise and increase in
spurious signal rejection.

I used to have a CAD program for drawing schematics and it seems to be long
gone on some old hard drive packed away. Can anyone recommend an easy to
use one? Free would be nice, however I'd be willing to plunk down a few for
a good one.

Thanks & 73

Yep, they do. As a matter of fact Johnson said an 829 could be subbed
for the 4D32 in the Viking 1, with some rewiring of the socket.

A fact I was just reminded of this past weekend. A number of years ago,
Don sold me a terrific Mackay 3010B receiver. I happened to come
across the little package of spare tubes, including a couple of the rare
Amperex jobs used in the front-end that Don threw in with the deal. In
this day when some sleazy characters yank installed filters and sell
manuals separately to make an few extra bucks, it's great to have guys
like Don who consistently go above and beyond.

Re: [AMRadio] Schematic CAD's?

2007-04-16 Thread SBJohnston

I simply use Windows Paint with WD4NKA's TubePAD bitmap symbols - works
really nice for simple drawings. You draw lines, circles, etc as usual in Pain
t,
and use "Paste-As" to bring in the TubePAD schematic symbols. I try other more

elaborate systems but so far I keep coming back to this method for quick and
clean drawings on any computer I find myself on.

With a whole lot of rewiring you could sub an 8877, too, because it uses the
same socket, as well.
