Re: [AMRadio] 2m AM

2009-07-29 Thread manualman
145.5 to 145.8 mHz is probably a good place to settle. 144.3 to 144.5
mHz is the new designated OSCAR subband. Also, there is a "study
committee" in the making to research and consider developing a plan to
move the US amateur community to narrowband channel spacing for VHF/UHF.
I would assume the reference is to FM channels because there's a
reference that the current band plan uses 15 and 20 kHz FM channels.
However, it may also be a great opportunity to finally buttonhole a 2
meter AM calling frequency if a new 2 meter band plan evolves.

Re: [AMRadio] 2m AM

2009-07-29 Thread Ken Zuercher

To All
Back in the early 80s, most of us Broadcast Engineers here in Toledo were hams
(those of us left still are). We started an informal "Out to lunch club". We
all bought Heath Twoers and put them on the air. We would meet semi regularly
but it slowed down. We had on stipulation. One could spend no more than $20 on
the whole setup! most uf us found Twoers cheap as no one wanted them then
(probably still don't). The antennas were wire and wood beams or if you had a
Ringo Ranger up it was OK. One of us even found an unbuilt kit and finished it.
His worked better than mine as I only could get about a quarter watt out. We
were spread out with a radius of about 20 miles. Reception was generally OK but
we eventually lost interest or some of us moved away. I still have the Twoer.
Does anyone ever use these in other parts of the country?

I can't speak to the quality of this stuff, but it is a site I ran
across a few years back. I kept it because it is one place that says
they can do white with an inkjet printer on their paper.

They also can do the decals for you.

http://www.beldecal.com/inkjet_decals.cfm

Maybe it can be of use to someone.

Re: [AMRadio] 2m AM

2009-07-29 Thread crawfish
Back in the day. 145.350 was the national watering hole on 2m AM, but the
additional of the 144-145 mHz repeater subband did away with that
frequency for AM.A few days after the change, a friend of mine and I
talked to a guy(can't remember the call) in Little Rock, AR who was
running a kW on 2m AM. He was not happy about those FM'ers taking over.I
am trying to remember if I have anything left on 2m AM.

[AMRadio] 2m AM

2009-07-29 Thread Bry Carling
The most popular spot for AM operation on 2m is 144.450 MHz in the USA.

Part of the reason for this is the availability of crystal;s on and around 8025
kHz.

Most hams who operated 2m AM for any length of time particuarly
in the heyday of AM would possess a number of crystals ranging
from just above 8000 kHz to about 8050 kHz.

Dick,

You need to beg, borrow, or gain access to (and I realize this is quite
esoteric) an ALPS MD 1000 or MD 5000 dye sublimation printer. Those
printers are the only ones I know of that can print white (a plethora of
other colors, too). They'll print on anything, including water-slide
decal film.

Failing that, Google "custom decals" and "model railroad" and I'll bet a
shiny new dime you'll find someone who can do it for you.

Seem AM would fit in here? Hmm, a pair of 6146's mod.

Speaking of 2 meters, last weekend I built up a balanced-

and My first QSO was with Raphael(XE2OR) for real DX!
I'm talking about loading up the same 80M. loop at 33 feet
that I use on 75M. A.M.phone! Also talked to several Houston

Fire up those old Boatanchors, I'll listen in that band.

If someone has decals for gonset stuff I sure would like to find him.
I have 2 communicators on six all restored and crystaled up for 50.4.
I also have 2 communicator 2's in the process of rstoring. They are crystaled
for 145.8 the old am calling freq from years ago.
I doubt that I ever will find any activity in this area on VHF AM.

Re: [AMRadio] decals

2009-07-29 Thread Bob - K2KI
Richard,

Check this site out. I was looking for a decal system a couple of years
back and stumbled upon these guys. This looks like a terrific system.
They even have a couple of videos showing how do use their product.

Hope this helps...

Re: [AMRadio] decals

2009-07-29 Thread Bob Peters
I thought that Glen K9STH had all this
lettering... I know that he restored a couple of
communicators... I would still love to find a
great condition Yellow CD Version.. I have 1 Com
II and one Com IV on two meters...What is the AM
Fqs to be used as a calling freq.. We are trying
to get a 2M AM group up in the Dallas area...
