[AMRadio] BAMA

Bama is requiring me to use a user name and password.

When did this change?

Alan,

I just went there and downloaded a schematic. No
log in, and no password required. FWIW, I use Mozilla
Firefox as my browser, and never needed to play games
with FTP interfaces as it's all built into Firefox.

RE: [AMRadio] BAMA

2006-04-19 Thread Schichler, Don
I have had BAMA ask me for a username and password (with Internet Explorer),
then a couple hours later it didn't require it. Seems to be an intermittent
thing. Give it another try.

On BAMA I don't suggest IE. Use an FTP program and check anonymous.

There is an alternate site that you can use IE.
http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/ It has never asked for a user name and
password.

I'm sure Ken with take care of this shortly. Be patient - all is well, etc.

It tells you on ther ehow to do it.

You need a picxture viewer like Paintshop Pro or ACDSEE.

You need the DJVU plug-in to view and print those DJVU files.

That's about it.

If all else fails read the instructions on the BAMA mirror edebris
site.

What do I need to do to be able to print manuals on the BAMA website? Do I
need Netscape?
Also, I am looking for a 575A HV Rectifier or the solid state plug-in
diodes. Anyone have some to sell?
I am in the process of converting a Collins 20V-3 for 75M. I was reading
some of the AM Window discussions with a chuckle. Don't you realize that
the biggest signal gets the frequency regardless of emission type. If a SSB
station jumps on to an AM QSO, just turn off the AM rig and reach over and
turn on that big linear and tell them to move. It doesn't do any good to
argue with them on AM cuz they probably don't know how to switch their rice
box to that mode. I'll give y'all a demo one of these evenings.

Bob: You do not mention which type of file you have downloaded. There are
file types GIF, DjVu, PDF and others. Also you didn't mention if you
downloaded from BAMA itself or the mirror site.

Check the extension and if it is djvu, then download the plugin for Explorer
and it should come right up and you can print from that. If it is pdf then
Adobe Reader should print from the Adobe bar, not the Explorer bar.

Hi folks...

I believe the 'bama' site only allows for 500 to access at any one
time... so if you get on... hold your place in the cue and get what
you need...

good luck all...

I have had the same problem with bama http://bama.sbc.edu/

I am not sure why this is, however, I did go to the bama site and downloaded
the free veiwer from their home page http://bama.sbc.edu/viewers.htm and for
what ever reason I am now able to get in but usaully I do have to refresh
the screen after clicking on the manual I want. I think this site is not
very friendly to Microsoft Browsers. I doubt any of this helps but maybe its
worth a try.

All day I have been trying to log into BAMA, but have been
getting the message that the maximum number of users are logged
in. I have tried repeatedly through the day and evening with the
same message.

Has anyone else been able to get in? I am wondering if it is my
machine, something with the site or are there really 10 users
logged in for such a long time.

Well that is the limit and has been for as long as I can
remember. What puzzled me is that limit was reached for most of
the day and into the late evening.

I may have found the answer. Looking at a particular category on
eBay I found many, and I mean MANY manuals for various receivers
for sale. I wonder if the seller has gone to BAMA then prints
them to offer for sale to the uninitiated?

10 users? I had no idea it had such a trivial limit,
considering the
probable size of the machine and pipe.

I typically have 30-40 concurrent users on my system at home,
on a DSL
 line!

Maybe it's because of the FTP method they use. FTP can gobble
up
resources, but on the other hand you don't have to write HTML
for
 linking the files.
