RE: [AMRadio] VHF AM Group
Hi Pete, Well, it's been almost 7 years since I lived there, but I think that is the 50.4 MHz group on Sunday mornings. Back then they told me their net had been in continuous operation for 37 years. I sure hope it's still going. The best that I can remember it was around 9 a.m. on Sundays but I could be mistaken. Hey, Brian. What band...2M or 6M. Re: [AMRadio] VHF AM Group
Hello- People that want a good AM receiver for 2 meters : I have a bunch of GRR-23 units, they are FAA VHF AM receivers built by ITT Aerospace. Very sensistive and has a sharp dual section tunable cavity filter in the front end. Dual gate MOSFET RF amp, mixer. Has a 2N5109 post-mixer amp, followed by crystal filter and 4 stage 20.6 Mhz. IF amp.Unit is single channel crystal control, has dual 600 ohm audio channels, squelch, good AGC. Anyway, I have a couple crystalled up on 144.400. There is a synthesizer available that replaces the crystal osc. module, however it hits every 25 Khz. only, but 144.400 is one of the frequencies it will cover. Re: [AMRadio] VHF AM Group
Around major metropolitan areas there are many old time vhf AM operators. Usually with old rigs they couldn't sell! Here in SE Alabama, it is hard to get FM 2 and 6 meter contacts- even the repeaters are quiet. However, I leave the Am rigs on 50.4 and 145. The superregen will hear anything close. Re: [AMRadio] VHF AM Group
Greetings, I live in the Trenton, NJ area and tried to stir up some activity on 144.45 AM with no success. I've made a few contacts but they were pre-arranged. If anyone wants to start something up on 2AM within a 30mi radius of Trenton, NJ let me know, would be glad to give it a shot. Re: [AMRadio] VHF AM Group
No regular activity here in the Los Angeles area. Another fellow and myself talked about getting something going but then he up and moved to Idaho. There will be at least a couple of old military rigs on 144.450 during our Nov. 4 MRCG FD in San Pedro. Did some hearability tests yesterday (Sep. 24) between Ft. MacArthur and other locations in the Palos Verdes Peninsula we use for this event. Used a pair of SR-42s for the test but will be running SCR-522, ARC-1, ARC-4, etc. stuff during the event. Dennis D. Re: [AMRadio] VHF AM Group
Hi Brian: Well, I have called VHF Nets for years and as long as I stay in there and stir the pot, we have some activity but when I stop stirring, the net goes kaput. I own more AM gear than most hams have on all bands and I have my ARC-4 nearly on the air. Have not had one on in nearly 50 years. Why? because I dearly like ole Mil gear. Thanks for your comments, as always.
