   Bob and Bob,
Just got off the ARRL website, the band from 145.500 to
145.800 is listed as misc. and experimental modes.
Seem AM would fit in here? Hmm, a pair of 6146's mod.
 by a pair?? Sounds fun!!
Speaking of 2 meters, last weekend I built up a balanced-
line tuner for 144Mhz, fired up the D.C. to Daylight Ricebox,
and My first QSO was with Raphael(XE2OR) for real DX!
I'm talking about loading up the same 80M. loop at 33 feet
that I use on 75M. A.M.phone! Also talked to several Houston
area Hams abt. 200 Mi. from here.
Fire up those old Boatanchors, I'll listen in that band.

Dick,

You need to beg, borrow, or gain access to (and I realize this is quite
esoteric) an ALPS MD 1000 or MD 5000 dye sublimation printer. Those
printers are the only ones I know of that can print white (a plethora of
other colors, too). They'll print on anything, including water-slide
decal film.

Failing that, Google custom decals and model railroad and I'll bet a
shiny new dime you'll find someone who can do it for you.

I can't speak to the quality of this stuff, but it is a site I ran
across a few years back. I kept it because it is one place that says
they can do white with an inkjet printer on their paper.

They also can do the decals for you.

Maybe it can be of use to someone.

Re: [AMRadio] decals

2009-07-28 Thread BILL GUYGER

Dick

I'm afraid that the days of radio nomenclature decals are long gone just like
my youth.I am however working (when I get a frikkin' chance) on a
project called Frankenmitter (813 rig out of '55 handbook with a Flex-1000 SDR
for the VFO and receiver) and bought some dry transfer letter sets from a local
art supply to lable the panels with.

I made a template to align the lettering and dial scales in CAD and printed the
templates onto overhead projector type transparent sheets. I aligned the
templates over on the panel and taped then on one or two edges then slid the
dry transfer sheet under the template until the letters on the template and on
the dry transfer sheet lined up. I then flipped the template up and rubbed the
dry transfer letters onto the panel. It's a one letter at a time chore, but if
it's worth doing, it's worth over doing.

After all the lettering was done, I sprayed the panel with several thin coats
of matte fixative to protect the lettering. BTW I had painted the panels with
wrinkle paint, and lettering went on just fine.

Re: [AMRadio] decals

2009-07-28 Thread Van K7VS
I used rub on transfer letters on the bottom two panels, everything on the
back of each of three chassis and on the top of each chassis. I had to cut
up some of the words picking out three of four letters from other words to
run together for what I wanted on the panels. Worked just great. You can
see the results on my restore Globe King 500A. Just go to qrz.com, my call
and click on the pix in upper right hand corner. I was very well satisfied.

Other option, I discovered after doing all this work, was I could have take
the panels to a GOOD screen print shop. They can shoot a pix of what you
have, match up the letter font and style and erase and overlay the lettering
and any logos and simply silkscreen the front panel. They told me they
would do it for 125 bucks. I wish I had talked to them first. But
everything turned out great but took me some time to do the panels by hand.
I would have glady paid them for the work, but the suggestion from them came
after the fact. Van, K7VS
