[amsat-bb] TH-D7 power modules repair project
Hi, I just finished repairing the RF power modules of my Kenwood TH-D7. The M67798LRA and M67799MA were replaced by the RA08H1317M and RA07H4047M. As this handheld radio is used for portable LEO satellite communications because of its full-duplex capabilities, this repair project might be helpful to others. So, for those who are interested, I have some information about this at http://ivok.home.xs4all.nl/pa1ivo/TH-D7.html 73, Ivo PA1IVO. ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Re: New York chapter
Vikas, Welcome to AMSAT, I'm the NY State Area Coordinator for AMSAT, as a volunteer I serve as AMSAT's regional ambassador. We serve in a variety of roles, from making presentations at local meetings to manning booths and conducting demonstrations at pubic schools, hamfests and conventions. Additionally, we act as as local "Elmer's", providing technical and operational help to hams in the area. We do have AMSAT groups, in the form of mailing lists and local nets that provide information about local activities, you can visit, www.amsat.org/amsat-new/tools/maillist/maillist.php, to see the groups that exist. In NY I have made presentations at Amateur Radio Clubs, to discuss and learn about amateur satellites. There is an excellent net that you can participate in, the Hudson Valley Satellite Net. Hudson Valley Satellite Net The next net #147 will be Thursday August 2nd 2012 at 8PM EST On the KC2DAA Repeater 146.970 -600KHz 100 Hz PL Echolink: N2EYH-L Node Number 429079 (Echolink is only active for the duration of the net) The following is a list of local and regional groups that are affiliated with AMSAT Project OSCAR (San Francisco Bay Area) The Colorado AMSAT Net AMSAT-DC (Washington DC Area) The Houston AMSAT Net (Texas) The Southeast Michigan AMSAT Net Vikas, you can visit, www.amsat,org, and review all the activities that AMSAT offers.if you would like me to make a presentation to your group about getting started with the Amateur Satellites or how to become a licensed Amateur Radio Operator to use the Satellites, I would be pleased to arrange a date, thank you. [amsat-bb] SatPC32 Question
Satellite newby here, trying to setup a station... For all you SatPC32 users, a question. I'm using the software with 2 radios. One is an Icom IC-706MKIIG, the other is a Icom IC-746. While the 706 covers vhf and uhf, the 746 only covers vhf. The way my version of SatPC32 is set, it tries (depending on the satellite) to set the 746 to uhf. I suspect there is a way to tell the software that a radio can only do vhf, but can't seem to find where to do that. Anyone know? Thanks, -- Kelley - WØRK ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Re: SatPC32 Question
Kelly, Take a look in the Setup menu under Configurations. You can set up 4 different radio setups which allows you to set up which ever radio you want as your TX and RX radio. Then you add only the satellites that you want to use for that particular configuration. I have mine setup so I am always using my IC-7000 for TX and my FT817or FT857 for RX. I use one configuration for FO-29, AO-27, SO-50 and a second configuration for AO-7 and VO-52. You have to restart SatPC each time to go to another configuration. Good luck. 73, Adrian AA5UK > > From: Kelley >To: amsat-bb@amsat.org >Sent: Sunday, July 22, 2012 9:28 AM >Subject: [amsat-bb] SatPC32 Question > > >Satellite newby here, trying to setup a station... > >For all you SatPC32 users, a question. [amsat-bb] Re: SatPC32 Question
Hello Kelley, to steer both radios you only need a single COM port and a single CAT interface or "CAT cable" with - for example - an y-adapter. In menu "Radio Setup" , "Radio 1" section, choose Icom for brand and the IC-706MKIIG for model. Set the CAT baudrate to 19200, do the same at the radios. In the menu set the first of the 2 Icom addresses for the IC-706MKIIG ($58 by default) and the 2nd one for the IC-746 ($56 by default). Click "Addresses OK". Choose a proper COM port and set the CAT delay to 50 (try the lowest working value lateron). Leave all other options in menu "Radio Setup" unchecked. Set the Radio 2 section to "None". Save the settings and restart the program. Click the "C" control to "C+". With v/u sats (FO-29, SO-50) the program should now steer the IC-706 as RX and the IC-746 as TX. With SSB sats you can tune th IC-706 around the passband and the IC-746 will follow. To steer the radios with u/v sats (VO-52, AO-07) set the second address pair in menu "Radio Setup" to the vice versa addresses (first value for the IC-746, second value for the IC-706). Save the changes and restart the program. The program will start with the settings for v/u sats. To run with u/v sats open menu "Mode" and select the 2nd address line. The IC-746 will now run as the RX on VHF and the IC-706 as TX on UHF. You can tune the IC-746 in the passband with its VFO and the IC-706 will follow. 73s, Erich, DK1TB - Original Message - From: "Kelley" To: Sent: Sunday, July 22, 2012 4:28 PM Subject: [amsat-bb] SatPC32 Question Satellite newby here, trying to setup a station... [amsat-bb] Re: FO-29
Rick, FO-29 has a strong CW beacon at 435.795 +/- Doppler. It's down there by itself and easy to find. Also most downlink signals are concentrated and very strong around 435.850 +/- 10 midway in the pass band. Are you working or hearing any other sats? GL Mike K9QHO ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Re: FO-29
Thanks for all the suggestions. I found my problem was rain on my homebrewed double moxon. I haven't had time to take it down and see if I can repair it as it worked quite well. but I just bought an m2 eggbeater for 70 cm that should be much more reliable at the vacation qth. Things had been working fine with a few contacts on the home brew antenna until the rains came. 73 Rick W2JAZ Sent from my iPad http://RickLawn.com On Jul 22, 2012, at 3:31 PM, "WILLIAMS MICHAEL" wrote: > Rick, > > FO-29 has a strong CW beacon at 435.795 +/- Doppler. [amsat-bb] Olympic Flagship Amateur Satellite Operation
Hi all, With reference to my posting to the Amsat news bulletin quoting a restriction zone imposed effecting the the amateur VHF/UHF bands for the London Olympics. I appears that I need to clarify my statement regarding operation via the amateur satellites. The following was posted to me: "There is no problem with 2O12L using 435 MHz, it's 432 MHz that they cannot use". Thus meaning that AO -7 cannot be used for mode "B" operation within the imposed zone of course. Operation on other amateur satellites should therefore be possible. Apologies.
