[amsat-bb] Re: Grid Square Maps
Tom, I believe that the ARRL is still publishing a book that has the grid squares for the entire world. Might be a bit of an overkill considering what you are looking for but that is your call. 73, Dave - K4DLG On 10/21/2009 12:33 PM, Tom wrote: Back in my county-hunting days I had purchased, from somewhere, a poster size black on white map of the continental USA with all counties shown. As each county was confirmed I could color in that county with a felt-tip marker. So I could quickly see if I needed a county heard on the air. Is anyone aware of a similar commercially available map for the USA that shows grid squares which could be colored in as they were confirmed? How about for Europe or other areas? Thanks. [amsat-bb] Young Satellite Operator
Greetings! Over the past few days I have heard a weak signal of a young voice in the background of a couple passes. However because of the noise and normal chaos :-) during the passes I was not able to make contact or get any specific information. Today on the AO-27 pass at 1809 I heard the call again and after a couple tries I was able to make contact with KP4WES. Wes is a nine year old who is a great operator that I believe is running handheld in Puerto Rico. The details are few because of the noisy conditions. On any of the future passes keep your ears open for a young voice in the background - I'm sure Wes would be very happy to make a contact and possibly receive a QSL confirming the QSO. Thanks! 73, Dave - K4DLG ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. Not an AMSAT-NA member? Join now to support the amateur satellite program! [amsat-bb] Re: rotator questions
Greetings! This thread is bringing back memories. Eons ago (60's) when I was servicing long range radar for the USAF once a month the third shift crew would have to verify the proper azimuth and elevation orientation of our antennas. We would stop all antenna motion, stop transmitting and crank the receiver gain full up. At a specific instant when the sun just broke over the horizon we would verify if the azimuth and elevation of the antenna was correct by using the large noise burst from the sun. Using this method we could get the antennas within 2 degrees of perfect orientation. It was a foolproof procedure because the location of the sun was always predictable. Ahh the good old days! :-) 73, Dave _ K4DLG ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. Not an AMSAT-NA member? Join now to support the amateur satellite program! [amsat-bb] Re: Grids on the Road
Greetings! I would like to add my voice to the choir of folks and thank Patrick (WD9EWK) for the five new grids in Utah. It was a real pleasure to find the QSLs in my mailbox and I greatly appreciate the effort and time Patrick and the many others have spent enhancing the amateur satellite hobby for me. Thanks again guys! 73, Dave - K4DLG ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. Not an AMSAT-NA member? Join now to support the amateur satellite program!
