[amsat-bb] Re: Malaysian airliner puzzle

2014-03-17 Thread Michael Chen
The distance calculated between the satellite and the plane won't be
credible if the time on both are not synchronized, even if the
transmission from the plane is time tagged. As a matter of fact, it's
quite difficult to keep such an synchronization.

and last heading to sort of kind of bound where the airplane is. That is
where the red circles in the NY Times article come from.

A second satellite is needed to pinpoint a more exact location, but even that

[amsat-bb] ARISS Video

2012-07-18 Thread Michael Chen
Hi,

I am looking for a video clip about ARISS contact (or it's not
actually amateur radio but a show of ISS-ground communication), which
is taken in live HD video in the ISS of three astronauts as well as on
the ground. The astronauts answer the questions asked by the ground
like we do in ARISS. I saw this video in the lobby of NASA HQ in

[amsat-bb] Fifty Years in Space

2011-11-10 Thread Michael Chen
Hi, everyone,

I just read the story of Fifty Years in Space by David, K1ZZ in the
November issue of QST. It's good to review the history of amateur
satellite and it reminds me that I have a lot of AMSAT friends there
in the United States. It was a thrill to be a part of AMSAT team in
Dayton this year and that was the 1st show of AMSAT-China to the
world.

The first Chinese amateur satellite was launched in 2009. We are late
but we are eventually there.

Sorry, we are kind of busy these days. Alan is going to post the new

It would have been nice with a SITREP - (situation report) - about the weekly

here are a *LOT* of people 'wondering' ...

I summise it has something to do with the President of China visiting the
 ground station and
Alan Kung being in the entourage ... but still, a SITREP would have been nice.

On behalf of the myriad of satellite operators in Europe I would apprecate
 some word on
the current status of HO-68 ... at your convenience.

 Thank you.

[amsat-bb] HT supports full duplex satellite operation

2009-10-20 Thread Michael Chen
All,

Could anyone list the HT models (available today in the market) that
support full duplex satellite operation?
I know I can get connected with two HTs and portable cross Yagi. Just
need a simpler solution. IC-W23AT and TH-D7 are discontinued.
