[amsat-bb] Dayton
Just got back from Dayton had a very good time. The A.M.S.A.T demonstration outside was great ! They tried for the I.S.S. but the system was not working on board. Ten minutes later AO-27 came around and Mark N8MH made several contacts. Now I see why I need a voice recorder . Astronaut Wheelock was there but did not get his autograph. Martha did an excellent job with the crowd. I got my elk antenna from A.M.S.A.T talking to Martha she said they were selling fast. The weather was great Sunny and very warm, with a slight breeze. The only thing bad about it was the lack of restrooms. They had all the restrooms closed everywhere I went. Got back to Toledorain, chilly and gloomy :( Mike N8GBU ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] My Comments on AO-51
I have been following the comments of AO-51 failing. I'm new to working the birds and have yet to start to do anything with the birds. Primarily from health problems, the weather and other personal things going on in my life. I keep my membership up with AMSAT and bought a bunch of stuff from the website. I also have donated on the website too. From a guy who hasn't even used a bird yet. We need a new bird, I saw the one at last years Dayton hamfest and was amazed at the size ! [amsat-bb] Thank You
I would thank everyone who commented on my question about the diplexer. The discussion opened up some new thoughts where, had I not read about duplexers I may have been kicking myself in the rear. Hopefully if weather holds I will have everything going ! Thanks again to everyone and I hope to eyeball some of you at Dayton ! Mike N8GBU ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Re: Bird
I remember that song from the early sixty's. There was a show on that had a mad scientist clown type guy called Glue Arty. That was kind of his theme song when he appeared on the show. He was pulled off the air for trying to blow up an animal, a rat I think with a fire cracker. There maybe someone on here that remembers more than I do. I was about ten years old at the time. [amsat-bb] ISS close call
I was following the space junk that was heading very close to the space station. The news said the junk was part of a Chinese communications satellite. Being a newbie here I was wonder if it was an old bird which was used for ham communications at one time? Mike N8GBU ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. [amsat-bb] Re: Bird
Actually, it was a rat Mark. Hee Hee It was on here in Toledo too. I imagine possibly a state run show maybe. Back in those days, every broadcast was picked up by antenna and rotator. My brother was 9 years older than me thats how I got to watch it. If I got caught man would I be in trouble. Back then the old belt or switch took care of business. [amsat-bb] PCSAT32 Question
I have been trying to get familiar with PCSAT32. I was a bit confused today. I tried switching from EST to UTC on my computer and I assumed everything would remain the same as far as satellite positions on the map etc. When I did change the time everything changed why is this? Where should I leave the time for correct satellite positions etc? Mike N8GBU ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. Not an AMSAT-NA member? [amsat-bb] Re: PCSAT32 Question
Thank you, everyone who answered my question. I plan to master PCSAT32 by spring, so I'll be ready when I put my antennas up. I'm a slow learner when it comes to this stuff ! [amsat-bb] Re: PVC
To add to the thread I have a friend who has a semi repair shop. He has run PVC through out the shop for compressed air. He puts 150 psi through the PVC for air tools. I have played with PVC for a 2mtr mast. It worked pretty well. I want to use it in smaller sections for my satellite antennas which I don't to put up very high until I learn about the whole operation then I will place it on a roof with better material. I have the Yaesu 5500 rotor and that thing to me is heavy to lug around. Once it is on a roof with better materials it stays there until something breaks. I hope this helps. [amsat-bb] Re: Ham Radios on Cruises
I really think your best bet is instead of looking to other people who have been on cruise ships. Try to contact a ham on a lake freighter. Contact them on H.F. I believe they have a net also. When my H.F. station was up and running I have had some contacts with ships. Leaving Florida the fcc license is good. Then you might hit international waters where the license needs to go with the ships registry, historically Liberia or Panamanian. Then the question is keeping track of what country's waters you are in at the moment. This may not even be someplace you are visiting if the boat is cutting through. It seemed too much of.a paperwork headache for me. Charles AA1VS On Mar 2, 2011 1:08 AM, Clint Bradford clintbra...@earthlink.net wrote: ... the web page should also suggest ... Has anyone ever experimented with PVC pipe to use for a mast in place of steel ? I have used it for vertical antennas and stands up excellent to the winds and weather here in Toledo, Ohio .
