[amsat-bb] Radar interference
Drew et All I get the same interference from time to time here at EM30 Lafayette, La. I am told this is from ships moored in the Port of Baton Rouge some 50 miles away. I am told that this is a very old radar. I hear the signal strength go up and down on an interval of about 10 seconds and I assume that the antenna is rotating at about 6 RPM. nick http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPSvVEjrTzY This is just a short video of the severe RADAR QRM I had today while trying to work FO-29. This is about as bad as I've ever seen it here in Central Florida. Please ignore my son coughing in the background (he's getting better fast), along with one of my male cockatiels crooning to the female one. :-) 73, Drew KO4MA Thanks nick Office 337 593 8700 Cell 337 258 2527 Helping UL become a world Class Engineering and Educational School ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. If you set the Flex emulation to TS-2000 it works, somewhat. For instance, the SATPC32ISS works fine as far as controlling the rig. The problem is that while the rig hardware is full duplex, the existing Flex software does not support the TS-2000 satellite/full duplex mode. There are some other issues such as the FM not working quite right. Flex is slowly working through these issues, and when the PowerSDR version 2.1 is available it should be great satellite rig. Flex is using SATPC32 in their testing, so it WILL work Real Soon Now. (Or other reason for varying signal strength?) To: amsat-bb@amsat.org Date: Sunday, April 4, 2010, 10:52 PM Hi folks, Since starting my effort to work Europe on AO-7, I've found that the very low elevation sigs vary significantly on different passes. Some mornings I can easily hear my downlink and start working Europe at 0.7 degrees elevation, while other days I can't hear myself until 5 degrees elevation, after the window to Europe has closed. Not sure if this is due to band conditions, satellite polarization, obstructions at certain positions, operator error, local noise, or what. Today I spoke with another experienced AO-7 op and he had an interesting theory: on the bad days (when I don't hear my downlink until 5 degress), the sat is in Mode C (lower power). This seems to make sense, because there does not seem to be any middle ground -- I start hearing my downlink at either 0.7 degrees or 5 degrees, never at 2-4 degrees. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Are we able to predict when the sat will be in one mode or another? Or any other explanation for the signal strength variations? 73, Bill NZ5N ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. Not an AMSAT-NA member? Personally, I'm a firm believer that the technology is not that far off that would permit orbital modifications of LEO satellites. It's an intuitive, inevitable solution to the problem of using the lower cost LEO orbit launches, and then moving upwards - something not just Amateurs would like, but the whole commercial satellite industry as well. You can put the cap at the control box but if you want to take the rotator apart. 1. Turn it upside down and unscrew the 4 screws that hold the ball bearing racier. 2. Turn it right side up set it on the desk holding the bearing ring in place 3. With the unit on the desk slide the bearing ring down and lift the rotator out of the bearing racier. Be careful not to lift the top of the rotator off the body of the rotator 4. Turn the rotator upside down and set it on the desk. 5. Lift the body of the rotator off the top of the rotator. Your radio will work fine at 437.405 that is the radio in our ground station Nick UL CAPE Team -Original Message- From: amsat-bb-boun...@amsat.org [mailto:amsat-bb-boun...@amsat.org] On Behalf Of Nathaniel S. Parsons Sent: Tuesday, September 15, 2009 1:00 AM To: AMSAT-BB Subject: [amsat-bb] Kenwood TS-2000 Birdies Hi all, I am a student on CUSat http://cusat.cornell.edu, one of Cornell University's satellite project teams. You may remember me from my previous call for help to resolve our antenna crises. I don't think I sent a follow-up to the bb, but we were able to recover from that crisis in large part due to your help, so thank you. Recently, it has come to my attention that the TS-2000, the transceiver in our ground station, has a birdie at 436.800MHz. To me, this seems very close to the frequency coordinated for our satellite by the IARU, 437.405 MHz. Should we worry about this, or will we be fine with the TS-2000? If the consensus is that it's best to switch radios, what would be best for us? We don't need anything more than VHF/UHF, and computer control.
