[amsat-bb] Special Event Station W7M Saturday, August 16 2014

2014-08-14 Thread wa7...@frontier.com
The
Snohomish County HAMS Club and the Cascade Radio Club of Everett will be
activating the Mukilteo Washington Lighthouse for the International Lighthouse
Lightship Weekend on Saturday, August 16th.  The special event call sign will
be W7M.  I will be putting W7M out on FO-29, AO-7 and
SO-50 in grid CN87.  This is not a
particularly rare grid, but it will be fun and an opportunity to demonstrate
satellite operations.  The following is a
list of the passes I plan to try:
FO-29  1532Z and 1719Z  (1719Z is extremely low elevation and may not
work)
SO-50 1626Z ,
1809Z,  1951Z (1809Z is extremely low
elevation and may not work)
AO-7  2042Z (this one also low elevation – will try
CW only on this pass)
For FO-29,
look for W7M around 435.830 +/- Doppler

Hello,

This weekend is Lighthouse Lightship weekend, around the world. I will be
operating at the Fire Island Lighthouse, from Fire Island, NY, FN30. The host
club is the Great South Bay ARC, www.gsbarc.org. I will be using the club
call sign, W2GSB/FI. The plan is to work all the amateur satellites, Saturday
and Sunday, starting on the 14:23 U pass of FO-29. The operating hours will be
until 4 PM, as the Lighthouse is being repaired and we must leave at that hour
each day. If you like to collect Lighthouse QSL cards you will enjoy having
this one, and can mail your card to my home call.

I look forward to working many stations and those of you worked me at Custer

[amsat-bb] Special Event April 12th

2011-04-02 Thread santanaamt

Hi:

Since posting a query and no reponse, I've decided to do a Special Event for
the 50 years of the First Man in Space and 30 years of the first Space Shuttle
Launch. It will be on HF and locally on 2 meters. It has been posted on QRZ.com.

Also if you know of any other activation, let me know, I assume that in Russia
there will be an operation of some kind.

Cheers,

[amsat-bb] Special Event Operation Sat/Sun 12/13 March 2011

2011-03-10 Thread John Papay
I will be using a special event callsign on the birds
this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, to celebrate the 20th
Anniversary of the OPDX Bulletin. The callsign will be
NO8DX/20.

The OPDX Bulletin is a free DX Bulletin that is distributed
via an email list and picked up by email groups around the
world. Papays.com hosts the official web version of the
Bulletin which comes out every Sunday evening. Tedd Mirgliotta
KB8NW is the editor of this publication which often includes satellite
announcements. Tedd is the President of the Northern Ohio DX
Association (NODXA) and has devoted a good part of his life to this
free source of DX information. There have been 1001 issues
published to date. Thousands of amateurs around the world read
this bulletin every week.

The NO8DX/20 call will be used by many of our NODXA club members on the
HF and VHF bands. Those who wish to receive a special QSL card
should send their SASE to the qrz.com address for KB8NW.

If there are any rare grid operations on the birds over the
weekend, I will obviously yield the bird to them.

John K8YSE

[amsat-bb] Special Event Coinciding with AMSAT Symposium

2009-09-07 Thread Frank H. Bauer
All,

Those of you into Edgar Allan Poe.there is a special treat if you come to
this year's symposium. The famous poet is celebrating his 200th birthday
this year. He lived in Baltimore for several years and died and was buried
in the city. And there is a Poe Museum at the Baltimore house he lived in
before his death.

The year-long commemoration of Poe will culminate with a recreation of his
funeral that occurs around the Symposium dates. Poe died on October 7,
1849. There will be a recreation of a wake for Poe from noon to 11 pm at
the Poe House. This will be followed up with a mock-funeral for Poe on
Sunday October 11 (12:30 and 4:30). John Astin (Gomez Addams from the
Addams family fame) will officiate the funeral services.

If you want more information on this, go to the following web sites:

www.nevermore2009.com

www.poebicentennial.com

www.annabelleetavern.com This all Poe tavern was named after one of
Poe's last poems.a virtual shrine to Edgar Allan Poe with his poetry
covering the walls.

www.westminsterhall.org Where he is buried.and where a mystery man dresses
in black leaves a bottle of cognac and three red roses on Poe's birthday.

[amsat-bb] Special Event operation coming to the satellites!

2009-06-24 Thread n3tl
Hey everyone,

This time next week, at least nine of the Original 13 Colonies will be active
on the amateur satellites as part of a special event organized by Ken, KU2US,
in New York. Here is the Web site announcing the event, and the certificate
available:

http://home.comcast.net/~dzabawa/ThirteenColonies.htm

You’ll also find updates on Ken’s QRZ.com page – look up KU2US.

When I saw an email about this special event, I contacted Ken and asked if he’d
consider including satellite operations in the event. He responded with an
enthusiastic yes – then told me to get everything organized as quick as I could
because we were running out of time! I’m glad to do it because this should be
a fun event for us on the satellites.

As I write this, we have commitments from stations in nine of the original 13
colonies, and they will be using the call signs for each that are listed on the
special events page. For example, I’ll be operating as K2G daily during the
special event. I intend to work at least one pass of every satellite as K2G,
every day.

Listed alphabetically by Colony, here are the stations that have confirmed to
date. The calls they will use are in parentheses:

Georgia – Tim, N3TL (K2G)
Massachusetts – Dave, KB1PVH (K2H)
New Hampshire – Rik, N1XED (K2K)
New Jersey – Marc, W4MPS (K2I)
New York – Peter, WB2OQQ (K2A)
North Carolina – Jim, ND9M (K2J)
Rhode Island – Fletch, N1RCN (K2C)
South Carolina – Art, K4YYL (K2L)
Virginia – Steve, NL7VX (K2B)

As of now, there are four of the original 13 colonies NOT scheduled to be
active on the satellites:

Connecticut
Delaware
Maryland
Pennsylvania

Can anyone help with any of them?

The process is simple:
1 – Please email me off the BB to let me know of your interest.
2 – You can work as many or as few satellite passes as you like during the
special event. It’s supposed to be fun, not work!
3 – After the event, email your log(s) to KU2US, who will handle the
certificates.

I’ll provide more information after hearing from anyone who wants to activate
one of the four remaining colonies.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to work one or more of us on passes from
July 1 through July 5. You only need to work one station to get the
certificate, but the more the merrier!

73 to all,

Tim – N3TL
